And then I get home and start reading posts from people saying what great seats they got on the floor.. and I'm so frustrated because I really wanted this to be a special thing for me and my friends this year. But my checks have not come in, I had to borrow money to buy the tickets I got, and there's no way I can afford to get tickets when the public sale happens unless I can sell my other tickets like... now. And that's not gonna happen. It's just so frustrating that it did *not* let me select that, and then other people later in the day (or hell, maybe just 10 mins later than me for all i know) got the seats I was *trying* to get at 10... *sigh* Another thing is that I need 4 tickets, and people generally only sell sets of 2 on ebay... so there's like, no way I can get better tickets and still sit in the same section with my 3 friends... :/ So I dunno what I'm gonna do at this point... I just wanna throw my hands in the air and give up, but... if my money comes in tomorrow like it's supposed to, I'll do whatever I can to get some better tickets... because it would be worth it to me, the poor college student... to have a really great concert experience with my friends.. Thus, my site is, for the moment, MIA. but it will be back up soon as high5 is sending my domain to another server that is currently up and online. The problem with this is, this is a new server which means I must start from scratch. However, this is only temporary. Once the old server comes back online, I can access everything from snow (which isnt a big deal considering I have all of the main domain on my computer) And now about 5th. mu and lilly gave me the idea of getting it its own domain. And thanks to the generous donations from kathi, noelle, kelly, mel, and queen frostine, we have bought www.fifth-avenue.org as well as the space for it. Along with that comes good news and bad news. The good news is that mu's friend drew is much smarter than I am and will restore the original fifth avenue and its goodness to the new domain. The bad news is that we cant access the database until the old server comes online (which I am told will be by the end of the week). All in all, both domains and the forum will be up (hopefully) by 11/5/02. if anyone wants a fifth-avenue.org email, mail me at meg@localbar.com and we'll go from there ;) And thank you kimba, for offering space for 5th, but I wouldnt want to kill your bandwidth with it! I just got home from NYC this morning, and I saw Weekend Today host David Bloom announce just before Today ended that Tori will be on tomorrow, but he said she will be performing in the studio. This is in conflict with what their website said a few minutes ago, so I expect it was moved inside by artist request due to weather. The studio for Today and Weekend Today is not one which includes seating for a studio audience, so I wanted to give a heads up to those planning to see Tori perform outside on the Plaza tomorrow on Weekend Today. Again: according to Weekend Today host David Bloom, she will be in the studio instead. (And I certainly feel good about this since it's going to be so cold there tomorrow morning, and losing her voice as the tour is about to begin is nothing I see good reason to risk happening.) Its one of my favorites.....but i always think of Coldplay's song Trouble. I know Tori once complimented Coldplay. Its not so much the piano part as the bass part. BUT! I think this sort of shows that Tori has really evolved as a producer. Producers are supposed to shape the sound of a record. I'm not saying she didn't do that well before, its just with this album you can tell she has grown as a producer. I think the sound is more clearly defined and there is a consistency throughout even though there are very different elements to every song. Shortly after September 11, Tori Amos embarked on a cross-country tour. She came back with material for Scarlet's Walk, an impressionistic travelogue that turns the American landscape into an extension of Amos' own freaky head space. On her 2001 covers album, Strange Little Girls, Amos Photoshopped herself into Eminem's nightmares and Neil Young's dreams; here, she projects herself into places, not faces, blurring her persona into the scenery to highlight deeper truths about both. Amos may still be best known for confessing deep secrets while bumping and grinding her Bvsendorfer. But her real ax is empathy, and on Scarlet's Walk, she internalizes everything from porn culture to the legacy of westward expansion. As usual, her melodies stubbornly refuse to turn into hooks, preferring to twirl into new territory. But her approach suits the material, which flows like the colors on a weather map, from Los Angeles to Nevada, from New York to Virginia, gathering thunder along the way. On "A Sorta Fairytale," the album's pensive first single, Amos cruises up Route 101, wondering why good love inevitably lets the bad times roll. On "Amber Waves," Amos puts the SoCal skin trade on blast, while undercutting the song's go-along-to-get-along tempo with melancholy piano chords. The record's climactic tour de force is "Scarlet's Walk," a siance-style spin through the Gothic South, its title evoking both the deaths of American Indians on the Trail of Tears and Gone With the Wind's homesick heroine. All organs, horns, and echoing drums, the song wraps Amos in layers of down-home creepiness. A man with a badge asks her: "What do you plan to do with all your stories?" She tells him she plans to bury them with all the other legends, wisdom, and "medicines" squandered throughout America's history, then stretches the word terra--signifying both Scarlett O'Hara's ruined estate and all that blood-soaked, hallowed earth--into a little earthquake. This is heady stuff. But even when the imagery gets dense, Amos' generous spirit lets you in. Your land is her land. Of thee she sings. Buckle up. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 11:52:18 -0800 From: Brian K Tanaka Subject: Re: Charms & Seattle tix help? I guess it's moot now (except for "for future reference" purposes), but did you get this message when you tried for floor the first time?: "We are unable to fulfill your specific request. We may not have the type of tickets you requested or the number of seats together that you are looking for. Try finding best available tickets" If so, you had the pleasure of encountering yet another annoying Ticketmasterism. You can get this message even when there really are tickets of the type and number you're looking for. For instance, I just tried three times for floor in SF as an experiment and got the "may not have the type of tickets you requested" error the first two times, but then seats the third time. They should put the "may not" in bold italics! The equivalent of this in Richard's cabbage analogy would look something like this: YOU: Excuse me, I'm looking for a particular kind of cabbage. GROCER: What kind? YOU: I need two heads of Savoy cabbage. GROCER: We MAY not have what you want... YOU: I need two heads of Savoy cabbage. GROCER: We MAY not have what you want... YOU: I need two heads of Savoy cabbage. Grocer: Oh, ok! Here's two heads of Savoy cabbage. Not just absurd but frustrating too[1]! Anyway, sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience. Hope you and your friends have a special show anyway. - - Brian [1] In all fairness to the techies at Ticketmaster, providing meaningful error messages when and where they belong is sometimes trickier than it seems it should be. Not that I'm excusing the flaw, but I can understand how it might come to pass. In an effort to avoid such problems, not long ago, at a previous place of employment, a co-worker friend of mine and I agreed, in mock seriousness, that it's better to be terse than misleading, so for a while all error messages in our programs consisted of only a single word: "No". ;-) - -- - - Brian Tanaka - - - contact info (im etc.): http://www.well.com/~btanaka/info - - tori web site: http://www.well.com/~btanaka/tori - - random tori quote: http://btanaka.freeshell.org/toriquotes ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 15:45:54 EST From: RedSpark18@aol.com Subject: Re: least fave kimba!! hey girl! i like talking about the album too, i just was not jazzed about all the negativity with no explanation! scarlet walk rawks ;-) ~~carrie~ [demime 0.97c removed an attachment of type image/jpeg which had a name of Rainbow.jpg] ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 20:50:12 +0000 From: "micah maranda bailey" Subject: SF presale any luck with the SF presale yet? So then I thought I'd have one last chance to get a better ticket Nov. 2nd...till I realized that tomorrow is Nov. 2nd and that i won't be able to buy them at all, till the evening, at which time it'll be too late. I really want to go to this...and as long as I have decent seats, i don't mind spending the money. So now my only chance of getting a ticket is if I could get someone to buy it for me. Is there anyone here who'd be buying tickets tomorrow and would be willing to buy one for me? Or if anyone has an extra ticket to sell, a decent seat? or some other way to get a good ticket...any ideas? Thanks. - -Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 11:09:40 -0800 From: shaman Subject: Re: Charms & Seattle tix help? Actually, I logged on today and the publically available seats are MUCH better than the pre-sale. Even hours after the sales has started you can get floor seats that are twice as close as the pre-sale shit! I'm f'g pissed! Clearly the scalpers had a fix going on this event! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 13:27:50 -0800 From: "Tony Fernandes" Subject: Scarlet's sound quality I was recently reading the chat transcript from MSN Live (thanks, Jason!!!!) and came across this. Basically, it sounds like Tori was going for a more "organic" approach with this album, somewhat similar to Little Earthquakes; apparently both in song structure and technology. I'm thinking this approach has something to do with the sound quality issues I have with the album. Here's what Tori had to say, judge for yourself: "All the compressors effects units, microphones, aren't anything you get at Target, if you see what I mean. So basically what I'm saying is it was all hand crafted. "Rumors" is a sonic reference. The old old Pink Floyd records are sonic references. Some songs hold the test of time...There are many many more, we could go on and on. It would be best for the engineers to have a chat with everyone that is interested with the technical side because they know all about that. I would bring in blueprints and just ask how to achieve it. Then proceeded to drive everyone insane for 9 months. But in the end, it seemed quite happily insane." Interpret as you will! Tony What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 17:41:00 -0500 From: Mikewhy (by way of dances with virgos ) Subject: Looks like there will be some kind of second leg to the North American Tour! I just uploaded this to thedent.com: Tori says during an interview on Mix 94.7 in Austin, TX that she will be going to tour in Texas sometime next year! Toriphile Ashy heard an interview with Tori today (November 1) on radio station Mix 94.7 in Austin, TX. (The Dent hopes to have a transcript soon!) Here is Ashy's report, "[Tori] also told us that she's coming to texas in the new year! she said that the tour had to be in 2 tiers because she had to find places before the new year that didn't have the 'nutcracker' or the rockettes lol her exact words were "those rockettes are a tough ticket..." So it looks like some kind of a second leg to the U.S. tour will take place next year! Since Tori will be at Radio City Music Hall in March 2003, it is possible that is when a second leg of the tour could start. It is all speculation, but educated speculation! That's amusing - in Vancouver Tori is appearing the day after The Nutracker finishes its run. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 18:08:40 -0500 From: dances with virgos Subject: Re: Carson Daly when we last left our heroes, ChristinaLynnC21@aol.com exclaimed: >Does anybody know exactly when Tori's going to be on with Carson Daly? not that it's an authority or anything but the program listings on my tivo indicate that it's on at 1:36am on november 7th -- that is, late on night of november 6. woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 18:14:46 -0500 From: dances with virgos Subject: Re: charms? when we last left our heroes, VioletLilith@aol.com exclaimed: >i got the snake charm. and, so far, i don't like this album much:( what don't you like about it? woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2002 19:08:49 -0500 From: "inmyhead.net user" Subject: Second NYC Show Added You may have already heard this, but a second NYC show has been added for march - at the Radio City Music Hall for March 7 2003.
