Hey EWFs, I am working on a new Tori website, where I could like organize and share toriphile's experience of meeting Tori! The idea has come to me from this page I made last year of when I met Tori backstage in Atlanta: The Sweetest Cherry in an Apple Pie I have recieved so many nice emails and comments about it, I think it would be lovely to read some other stories and have them available to others as well. So, if you have met Tori backstage, or at a M&G, or some other event, Id love to hear your story- ie, what it was like for you, what she said, what you learned, etc! I'd like to collect as many stories as possible, and include pictures if you have them too; then I would like organize them, chronologically or alphabetically on a webpage, so others can share in your experience. Please email your submissions about your story (as you would like it to appear) to me, and include pictures of the meeting as well. (I will not be posting pictures w/ out some story to it, if you want to see just M&G pics, you can go to the dent for that... this is more of a book than a photoalbum). IF you have any questions or suggestions, Id love to hear those as well. Once I get a few stories in, I will put together the site (which will most likely be designed by Matt ( matt2278@yahoo.com) of the Tori SCans page & my trading page, so you can be assured the design will be very professional and beautiful)... So I hope to be sharing the url to that site on here soon! ~~Maria toriphilemaria@aol.com My own Tori Story: http://www.auburn.edu/~aguirmg/sweetestcherry/ Trading Website: http://www.auburn.edu/~aguirmg ******************************************************** "first lets unzip your religion down..." - -Tori Amos ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2002 05:03:20 -0600 From: "*** Vicki ***" Subject: Re: tori tarot Hi All, Actually I own a full deck. Hi everyone, Due to some unbelievable stroke of luck, I got tickets for Tori's show at Riverside Church this morning! I therefore have two tickets to the Camden, NJ show that I sadly need to part with. They are in section 104, Row BB, seats 17 and 18, the left orchestra. These are solid seats. I'm looking to make absolutely no profit from this sale, just trying to recover the total price I paid for the tickets -- $97.00 for the pair. I'll pay for priority mail to send them to you. I will put these on Ebay if I get no response here, but I figured I'd give fellow EWF's first dibs. Please check my ebay feedback under the name slats8736. I'd prefer payment by Paypal or money order, but I'll also take personal checks if you're willing to wait for it to clear. Please email me ASAP if you're interested, first person to contact me gets these! Your timely information on what's what in the entertainment world is usually excellent. I have to say that I am completely let down by the inane review of Tori Amos' new album 'Scarlet's Walk' (which scored a ludicrous D-). That the reviewer can say the "melodies meander pretty unforgivably" about an artist that has consistently been among the most creative singer-songwriters (gasp! yes, songwriter) since her album 'Little Earthquakes' was first released is completely absurd. I have to admit 'SW' is nothing like Justin Timberlake's album 'Justified' (which received an equally ridiculous B) and maybe that's the point. At least when reviewing Timberlake's album care was taken to research it in full (citing production credits and quoting lyrics) while the review of Amos' album is boiled down to a description of "full-blown looniness" without any justification (!). In an issue where Avril Lavigne is on the cover ("SHE'S PUNK! SHE'S POP! SHE'S IN YOUR FACE!" to quote from the cover of your magazine) I wouldn't really expect the complexities of Tori's World to be completely understood. But I did expect, at least, the magazine to be fairly competent when offering a review. The reviewer quips "Buy it and be directed to a website that maps out Scarlet's death-defying journey and Tori's life-affirming tour-date schedule" as if he's actually seen the site (highly unlikely since the site will not be launched until 3 pm e.s.t. on 10.29.02) -- proof positive for me that the review comes from an unqualified writer trying his hand at making a name for himself by offering witty negative reviews. Nice try. I do suggest that better care be taken when paying your writers for music reviews. I can assure you that better care will be taken on my part when paying for magazines that offer music reviews. Trent Vanegas Grosse Pointe, Michigan - ------------------------------------------------- Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk Tori Amos has always flirted with dippiness, sometimes quite seductively, but with Scarlet's Walk, a grandiloquent ''sonic novel,'' as her label bills it, she achieves full-blown looniness. A song cycle about a woman traversing America, ''Walk'' conflates Native American oppression, anti-homophobia, the 9/11 attacks, and motherhood with appalling hubris. The melodies meander pretty unforgivably too. Buy it and be directed to a website that maps out Scarlet's death-defying journey and Tori's life-affirming tour-date schedule. Cumulative effect? Soul-depleting. EW Grade: D- (Posted:10/28/02) Justin Timberlake - Justified On Justified (out Nov. 5), Justin Timberlake swaps Europop for R&B and hip-hop. His smooth falsetto is an easy fit for the slinky quirks and rhythmic accents of the Neptunes and Timbaland, who produced the bulk of the album. Thanks to them, ''Justified'' is a cohesive and fairly lean work, especially compared with 'N Sync's last two albums. Fellow singer-dancer and ex Britney Spears is never mentioned by name, but the songs appear to be divided between those about their breakup and those about its aftermath. In the former category, Timberlake gets downright maudlin and snippy, making the case in the drippy ''Never Again'' that he was wronged. In the latter category, he's more engaging -- the stud on the loose, making promises of romance and more in slurpy cuts like ''Senorita'' and ''Rock Your Body.'' (''I could think of a couple positions for you,'' he boasts in ''Right for Me,'' whose loosey-goosey, barrio-street-corner groove is surprisingly experimental.) Homages to Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder abound; in some ways, ''Justified'' is the ultramodern R&B-pop hybrid ''Invincible'' failed to be. But these strengths also pinpoint the project's principal weakness. Whether it's because Timberlake has a suave but indistinct voice or because his producers overpower him, the album is strangely anonymous. Only once does the singer grab the reins, and it's quite a moment. Part electro shuffle and part symphonic sulk, the Timbaland production ''Cry Me a River'' is a haunted, pained farewell, a genuine stunner that should leave Timberlake's fellow 'N Syncers concerned that he truly may not need them anymore. Hey Guys :) I can vouch with Armani Boy on this... I bought a copy of the "limited edition" today at Circuit City (CC) for 11.99 so its not a mis-print. Then took both the ad-circular and the receipt across the street to WorstBuy and made them price match. Here's the thing with WorstBuy though....As you walk into the store, pick up and ad-circular (because you'll need it later) and look at the fine print on the bottom of the last page...in there mumbo-jumbo you'll see that there price match policy is actually 110% BUT only after the purchase (funny that they don't post this anywhere)...so if you just show them the advert from CC when you check out you'll only get 100% price matching (11.99) but with a little work you can get it a little bit cheaper. Purchase the cd and pay the normal price (16.99 for it) then head to the service desk...Kindly point out to the "sales associate" the difference in price. Show them their circular and the 110% price matching guarantee. Then show them the CC Advert price at 11.99. Expect the normal, "its an error in their add, or the ad is wrong" or "they mean for the non-dvd version" crap type of excuses...then pull out your purchase receipt from Circuit City. :) Going through this little bit of trouble will get you the cd even a little bit cheaper at $11.49 And should they not budge (because I know some sales associates need to make their numbers for the quarter which ends ending Oct 31st and returns count against that...) Hand it back to them and ask for a refund and you'd still have the one for 11.99 from Circuit City...otherwise ebay it or just return it to CC... And I agree there's no store chain I hate worst than WorstBuy... Paul K. I will be doing this as well if i am not reached by something other than a cookie cutter response by the end of the workday Friday. So get writing EWF's.. we've been rightly screwed over this time.. Now is the moment for us to collectively voice that we're tired of being a floor mat... First of all, if have to get a MAJOR gripe/complaint/disapointment off my chest. The sound quality of this album is VERY poor. I'm sure it was recorded properly and it came out just the way Mark and Marcel wanted it to sound, but I think it sounds awful. Tori's voice is muffled, has too much bass, and the whole CD sounds out of phase and very flat. The instruments are way too crowded together and there's no depth or precision. Now, MIND YOU, I am very picky about my music, and I'm sure most people won't notice, and if they do they might not care. But half of the enjoyment of listening to music for me is the way it sounds. I just don't understand why such the big step backwards in sound quality. I did not care for SLG at all, but it was a beautifully recorded album. This CD just doesn't capture the essence of Tori's voice or the Bosendorfer at all. On every other album I could literally sense that Tori was singing and playing her piano just for me in my car. All I can say is that I've spent a lot of money and blood and sweat building one heck of a car stereo system and this CD falls very short of putting it to good use. Bummer! I wonder if Epic had anything to do with this, or if this was a decision soley by Tori and/or Mark, etc. Now, with THAT out of the way... Like BFP, I think this CD is going to take a while to truly develop a relationship with. With that in mind (BFP is my favorite Tori album), I think I will truly fall in love with this CD. I already like several of the songs on there, and it appears like a very deep, thick album with many layers and surprises that will randomly appear to me over time...just like BFP does for me even today! :-) Horray for Tori! I'm very happy...now if I can only get over this whole sound quality issue I'll be in bliss. Tony What's more likely? I hope I'm not the only one, but can someone remind me what the whole charm thing is all about?! I'm confused!!! Thanks! Tony What's more likely?
