Upcoming Events Information: (416)815-5500 Tickets: (416)870-8000 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 16:35:53 -0400 From: guapo stick Subject: complete ann powers audio i finally got off my duff and finished up the audio recording of the new york times critics' choice interview with ann powers. for a number of reasons, the quality is not good, even after some tweaking to make it somewhat listenable. still, it's nice to hear the entire interview as it happened, including the q&a session which was omitted from the cablecast on cuny-tv. and since no one else seems to have successfully recorded the interview, i might as well get it out. so, shns will be posted to abta, uploaded to ftp.tal.org, and added to furthur shortly. since the interview is not exactly something that people will want to listen to on a regular basis and the quality isn't that great to begin with, i've decided to encode a set of low-bitrate mp3s of the interview as well. they'll be distributed by all the above methods as well. i'll post again when they are available. *please*, if you download the mp3s, don't burn them to an audio cd and trade that disc to others. normally, i would not bother with mp3s but because of the sound quality i'm going to go ahead and do it for convenience's sake. the quality probably won't degrade that much going to mp3 to wav, but there's no point in making it sound any worse than it already does. ;) finally, i'll do a number of b&p and even trades for the recording as well. e-mail me if you are interested. the details of the recording are appended... woj _______________________________________________________________________ Tori Amos January 12, 2002 New York Times Critic's Choice Weekend A Conversation Moderated by Ann Powers Source: Radio Shack 33-3028 > MZ-R50 (mic in, autogain) Transfer: MZ-R50 > SB16 (analog) > Cool Edit 96 Post-processing: Compression, normalization & noise reduction SHN: CD Wave > mkwACT Disc 1 1. Closing Not the greatest of recordings. A lot of "shoulda-couldas": I shoulda used the good mics, I shoulda swapped discs before the Q&A portion of the evening, etc., ad infinitum. Thing is, a college lecture hall is not the optimal venue for recording and the PA system here was particularly bad. Not to mention that Tori's and Ann's voices were not very loud. Combine that with an enthusiastic audience and you've got trouble, right here in River City. Be that as it may, I tried to make the conversation listenable and, while I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, it's better than it was even if there are some weird artefacts from fooling around with the audio. Bottom line is that I'm sick of dicking around with it and, since we're not talking a real live performance, I'm not going to worry about it anymore. Tori's conversation with Ann powers has been tracked individually, with each substantial statement by one being broken out as a separate track. Hence, the inordinate number of tracks on disc one. The Q&As were tracked to include both the question and the answer. Apologies to the guy whose question I had to swap minidiscs during. It was something about self-producing records, in case Tori's answer is not clear enough to discern what he was asking about. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 17:31:29 EDT From: TUFFY0331@aol.com Subject: Toriphile gathering in Philadelphia to benefit RAINN Hello, Just a reminder: we're having a Toriphile party to celebrate the release of Scarlet's Walk.
