I know some of you know exactly how >that happens.) i don't have much time to write (i need to go to sleep!) but i felt like replying to this. i think this makes a lot of sense, and i've seen people, once they hear that some of the songs were influenced by the terrorist attacks, try to analyze the lyrics line for line with regard to that day and the details of what happened. but i agree with people who say that tori seems to be tapping into the tone of the country last fall. the songs aren't as personal... rather, i was thinking about this earlier today and my brain is so fuzzy right now so i apologize for any incoherency... the songs seem like a blend of "strange little girls" and "little earthquakes" to me. in the color and tone of the content, if that makes sense. they seem like narratives but not necessarily about tori or aspects of herself. they're not personally confessional, they're observational. similar to slg in that they are about specific events, specific people. they have characters. the most personal song seems to be "gold dust," but even that isn't written in the same style as something like "suede" or "cloud on my tongue." i guess tori's done this before. "anastasia," "the waitress," "prof widow." there seems to be something different about these songs. or maybe it's just that they're new. in my mind, there's an intricately patterned wall between tori and the audience with the recorded versions of these pieces. i have a feeling the tour is going to be intense. i have more to say (it's taken me a long time to collect my thoughts on these songs!) but if i don't go to bed now i Will sleep through work. andrea (oh, i guess this is my delurk. hello everyone! beth w. dragged me into this. (tee-hee! kicking and screaming, yeah, right.) i've been on that other list, rdt, for a long time.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2002 13:03:27 -0400 From: Solstice92@aol.com Subject: [SW SPOILER] oliver stone? hi! i was wondering if anyone has any ideas or thoughts on why tori mentions oliver stone in a sorta fairy tale? gabi* "Then the time came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - Anais Nin ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #169 *************************************
