I think it's fantastic! Sounds more like Little Earthquakes or Under The Pink era, to me. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the other songs on the sampler CD? I was put off from doing that about a week ago when some bogus lyrics were posted. Those lyrics totally seemed unlike anything Tori would write, but I'm happy to say that these lyrics look so much more like the real thing. What makes me even happier is the feeling that I am getting from the all that I have heard about Scarlet's Walk : ie it seems it is going to remind me most of Boys For Pele. Not that I think it will sound the same, but rather that it is going to be pretty complex and a long listening affair. Basically, what I am trying to say that I don't believe this is going to be another TVAB (which I love now but really struggled to get into at the beginning). I think that there is going to be two (maybe more) songs that will instantly hook you (like Fairytale) but the rest will hopefully demand closer listening and probably more pleasure ultimately. I have to think back to my first listening of Boys For Pele. I remember sitting in my bedroom stunned. The only song I could relate to immediately was CALS. The rest took some time. In fact, Not The Red Baron only got under my skin about 2 years ago. Well, I just thought I would share some of my feelings on what it is going to be like. I know that a lot of people will be listening to mp3's as they leak, so they will have a different opinion, but I think it's kind of fun to sit back and imagine what we are going to hear as the info about the album permeates the grapevine and some of the lyrics become available. I have decided to only listen to Fairytale before the official release. It's tough, and is going to be like kicking a habit when these new mp3's become easy to find, but I really believe that listening to the new album in its entirety in my CD player and not piecemeal through file sharing is going to be more special. Anyway, would like to hear anyone's opinions on what they think this album will be like......... Best wishes to everyone..... Tori is a unique talent whose distinctive voice and thought provoking songs have mesmerized and inspired a generation of fans throughout the world. She represents a proud addition to the Epic Records family. Scarlet's Walk, her Epic Records debut, may very well be her most inviting release to date. It is a sonic novel of sorts which takes the listener on an aural journey of America's recent and not-so-recent past. As the story moves from coast to coast, questions are asked and notions are challenged with each song representing a specific stop along the way. In the middle of it all roams Scarlet, "... who may be the land and may be a person and may be a trail of blood" (Neil Gaiman). The disc was self-produced and recorded in Cornwall, England (the same studio as several of her other releases). It features performances by her long-time collaborators Jon Evans on bass and Matt Chamberlain (Bowie, Fiona Apple) on drums. The record's first single "A Sorta Fairytale" will be serviced to radio in mid-September. In support of the album, Tori will embark on a headlining tour of the United States this fall with international dates to follow. Worldwide, Tori's critically acclaimed discography includes the 1992 multi-platinum breakthrough album Little Earthquakes and 1994's Under The Pink, as well as the platinum successes Boys For Pele, From The Choirgirl Hotel and To Venus and Back. Her most recent "reinterpretations" record, Strange Little Girls, is certified gold. For her work she has received eight Grammy Nominations. Scarlet's Walk will be available in stores October 29, 2002. As previously reported, Scarlet's Walk was self-produced and recorded in Cornwall, England with longtime collaborators Matt Chamberlain on drums and Jon Evans on bass. I wonder if this means a lot of last minute changes are being made? We're about 2 months away from the release of the single and 3 months away from the release of the album. It's strange to me that these samplers have already been sent out. Don't they know that if they send those out the songs will be leaked? Seems odd to me that they didn't wait until at least next month. I also have a question for those of you who have downloaded the sampler songs: Is the version of A Sorta Fairytale that is on the sampler the same version that was leaked a couple of weeks ago? No need to go into detail but we know that there are additional lyrics and maybe additional instumentation so I'm wondering if it includes that or not. ~~M~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 13:05:47 -0400 From: Cyndi S Crawford Subject: Re: Precious Things/rainstorm from Daniel: "It always amazed me, How poetic and accurate Cyndi can be when describing Tori4s music. Yeah, Benzodiazepines are anxiolytic drugs, usually used in combination with others. Between 1965 and 1985 1.5 billion prescriptions were written for these drugs within the US although for some reason I think popularity may have declined some?. Combinations are usually with SSRI, SNRI, MAOI, TCA, or SSRI and busiprone or similar. Popular varieties are: Chlordiazepoxide Diazepam Oxazepam Lorazepam alprazolam How they work: Mediated via facilitation of principal inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA (i.e. reduces firing rate of excitatory neurons with which it comes into contact) Due to modulatory role of GABA on other neurotransmitter systems secondary changed occur in Noradrebnergic and serotonergic systems. Also alcohol & barbiturates. BDZ bind with high affinity to a BDZ receptor and as a results change the structural conformation of the receptor so the action of GABA on its own receptor is enhanced Side effects: Short term- sedation Long term- tolerance Long term - dependence- evidence withdrawal effects, Rebound anxiety, insomnia, perceptual disturbances Long term- memory problems, motor incoordination Mike [knew that psychopharmacology module would come in somewhere...] ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V7 #163 *************************************
