The day after I spoke with a music industry friend two weeks ago about the Memory Burn CD Steve Caton plays guitars on, she got an email telling her about the music festival the Projekt people are doing in Philly on Memorial Day weekend. If Caton were going to be at this Projektfest I would definitely attend. (I don't think he is but who knows.) The Memory Burn album is wonderful, and Caton has an opportunity to stretch out on there. The variety of tone and expression he wrings from his instruments on Memory Burn is genuinely astonishing. I would suggest that anyone interested in Caton's work from having heard him with Tori would enjoy this CD, although they seem to be sold out of it for the moment on their website: . Borders carries Projekt items, I believe, so you might find it there if you can't wait for them to email you back after signing up to be notified of new stock. There are two songs you can download from the band's own website, if anyone's interested: . Projekt appears to be a distributor as they carry different labels, and they seem dedicated in general to what is often termed goth music; but as with most pigeonholed terms, it's not as easy as that to describe. They sent me a sampler disc of some of their music but I haven't played it yet. Thanks to woj for bringing this Memory Burn disc to our attention last month. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 03:12:03 -0500 From: "*** Vicki ***" Subject: Re: related artists Well, I can't really point you to any NEW music, but possibly new to you music. Check out That Dog(rocking indie w/ violins), Mary Lou Lord(I'd stay away from her Major lable release check out her stuff released thru Kill Rock Stars. She indie/folk with a few electric songs here and there), Julianna Hatfield, Suzanne Vega, or Sleater Kinney(female rock goddesses), or if you are looking for possibly a more obvious choice check out Fiona Apple(girl with piano, blah blah blah) :) Also there's Lush if you like layered guitars. How weird I just realized every one of my suggestions have female vocals. Guess I need to throw in a male quick... How about the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" soundtrack? Great music!!! Or Ocean Colour Scene. None of my suggestions really sound like Tori, but hey it just proves how original she truly is. Right? :D Vicki >--- "Megan Harris" wrote: > > > >I'm going through a musical drought...
