Not really. It was released on the movie soundtrack for _Higher Learning_, and she didn't perform it in concert until 1996. There are -lots- more covers that she did earlier than that. But an interesting point is that Tori covered LMR at her Athens 1996 performance with Michael Stipe in the audience. There's a good long article about really -really- early Tori in the issue of Little Blue World that was just mailed to subscribers. Two of the LBW staff met up with Tori's family archivist, who gave them the chance to view and listen to the archive. More info on LBW, including how to subscribe, is at: http://www.little-blue-world.org/ Enjoy. :) /nm {one of the lucky staff members} ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 00:26:32 -0400 From: Cyndi S Crawford Subject: Re: Losing My Religion >Jeez..where have you been? ;) That's one of Tori's first covers.< well, I knew that, but I just now got to hear it.. holyyyyy CRAP! it's GOOD! rofl.. methinks me needs to add the Higher Learning soundtrack to my little CD wishlist. :P I need $$. :P Sincerely, Cyndi S. I remember Entertainment Weekly reviewed the Higher Learning soundtrack - which was where Tori's version of the song appeared, along with Butterfly - and they said her version of Losing My Religion was like a bad soap opera audition. Whatever. Michael Stipe, the guy who wrote the song, said Tori's version made him cry. So I guess that's nice. Losing My Religion was only performed live by Tori on the 1996 Dew Drop Inn Tour, and it was always very intense and amazing. It was somewhat different every time, like everything else she plays, and later in the tour she added a new section (a bridge, I suppose) to the song during which she'd wail dramatically, using her very loud, powerful chest voice, "you're so sure you k now me," repeating the line until it became a furious growl, Tori seemingly possessed in a rage, spit flying from her mouth, face twisted, and her hands pounding the keys of the Bosendorfer. Her performance of LMR at KROQ's 1996 Almost Acoustic Christmas concert was particularly amazing, as well as October 23 in Miami, if you can download those somewhere. And actually, she didn't just do it on the DDI Tour, she played it once on the strange little tour in Salt Lake City on November 6, 2001. ok, bye. jason www.yessaid.com t o r i p h o r i a ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 05:05:36 EDT From: JNe9027355@aol.com Subject: tori on kevyn > "For those like me who loved Kevyn the person, the heart now weeps as if > made of water color. I'm having a blast so far.. :) from redstamen: (about Butterfly) >cyndi, have you heard that one?< Yes I have, in fact.. it's very beautiful too, but Losing My Religion kinda has a death grip around my throat right now, ya know? the Dakota mix of Hey Jupiter did too for a whiiiiile.. (that's what got me all started in Tori if you didn't already know) *grin!* >From Ryan: >I can't say the whole soundtrack is worth the $ for the two Tori songs.
