They've been playing it coming back from commercial break right before showing a video. A segway of sorts. This isn't her exact quote, but I know unless you record it and play it over and over, it's hard to get the exact quote. She also says something like 'Young people are resilient. There's something about them that makes us want to get up in the morning.' And then she goes on to talk about how there should be a forum in colleges to talk about and ask questions about what happened on September 11th. 'The Great Wisdom doesn't come in the answers but in the questions.' These aren't direct quotes. I tried looking on MTV 2's website for a transcript, but no luck. However Mtv2 will probably continue to play this clip of Tori talking. So for all those out there if you're lucky enough to have MTV 2 (I know I'm not, I saw this @ work-they have 'the dish') and you haven't seen this yet keep your eyes and ears peeled. I saw it on both Saturday and Sunday @ around 7 or so. And on Saturday they played her video for "Strange Little Girl" right after the clip of her talking :D ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2001 06:04:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Jennifer Mitts Cypres Subject: Re: sound of Strange Little Girls I wrote: <> XXXPandora@aol.com (Joanne)wrote: <> I realize that the drum sound was on purpose, but it really does sound bad to me. Sounds like it was recorded in mono instead of stereo. It just throws me and the first time I heard it, I was like, "Eek. Bad decision." Also, on Enjoy the Silence, you mentioned that it was boring. I agree; I think it's boring because it's so bare. Sometimes bare is interesting, as in Me and a Gun. Sometimes bare is just... boring. It honestly sounds like a chorus teacher just doing a one-finger melody (although I know she's playing chords) to help teach someone the song. Tori could have done much better by putting in some strings and beautiful music behind it. I do, however, think the song gets better toward the end. Like you, I do enjoy Rattlesnakes. I gave the album another listen this weekend on a road trip, and I'm beginning to like it more and more (especially SLG and New Age), but I'm just disappointed in the effort and the lack of interesting new ideas. Some of the sound is totally rehashed from previous albums. I've always liked her new ideas; I just don't think she came up with any for this album. Again, I am excited about and cannot wait to hear her next album of original music, whenever that comes out. I have a feeling we'll see the old Tori surface again. - -jen ===== "Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease." - -President George W. Agreed 100% - listen to Tori's end of tour speech for the DDI tour when critics and indeed perhaps Atlantic had criticised the album, where she basically points out that she doesn't give a stuff about industry or media opinion as long as the fans get it, and thanks them for their support. I doubt she's got a mind on the critics when she's recording! My hubby says it is a great driving in your car album. *I*, however, havent had the chance to listen to the damn thing anywhere but in my kitchen--with my son hollering in the background--as of yet. Maybe that explains why Heart of Gold is the only song I like so far? I *instantly* loved this song (but sometimes when that happens I get sick of it really fast. We will see). To me, the song felt like a whirling dervish of frustration, desperation and pain. I have BEEN there, honey! This song took me RIGHT BACK THERE! Wow. In yer face. Love it. Ya know - the media has recently been airing a LOT of video images of the terrorist attacks with background music - wouldn't Tori's rendition of "Imagine" really be powerful combined with the images of the recent events.... Just an opinion.... when I heard the song for the first time I just kept seeing the pictures of the past two weeks in my head....
