Pay ATTENTION to What is Happening! Hi ya EWF ~ I'm gonna be outrageous & not copy/paste GregR991@aol.com's remarks for yesterday. (Seeing them once was enough.) I agree completely with my dear friend Micah that Greg can say what he likes, feel what he likes. HOWEVER - Greg must be taking this new CD on its face value and not on the ever-present how's & why's of the music biz. Maybe he is new to PT, maybe he doesn't read the posts on a regular basis, who knows - who cares. BUT several of us began to examine why Tori CHOSE to do an album of covers MONTHS ago. For those of us who have been a fan for many years, we know that Tori has vaulted songs. She is not out of material. I believe she wrote new songs since Tash's birth a year ago as well. So we began to examine WHY she was doing an album of covers. Our conclusion - It's very clear that Tori is leaving Atlantic/ew. As with past performers (George Michael & Prince come to mind), when you are leaving your record company you don't put out new material. Think - Would you want the old company to have their hand in your hot & delicious freshly baked pie? Tori had a contract to fulfill - that's it, simply put. Atlantic/ew are marketing the hell out of it - why not make some bucks on the final act they say? Know this - they are in business to make $$$ - that's the bottom line. All BS aside, that's it. As Neil aptly penned for Heart of Gold - "It's not glamorous... It's just business." There is more involved than just the cellophane package you just bought at your local record store. As Bob Sugar (Jay Mohr) says in Jerry Maguire -"It's NOT show friends, it's show business." We don't know the specs. I don't need to know. Tori has put out consistent top-line music for years. I stand by her. To risk sounding like Tinker Bell - I believe! Frankly Greg, Tori doesn't make HER music for you. Like every artist she makes it for herself, then she shares it with us. It is an extension of who she is & what she wants to say. No one said you have to like it. There are NO implied guarantees that you will, never have been. But also know this - Just because you don't like it doesn't make it crap for all. You are entitled to like what you want. Hate what you want. That's freedom. Go ahead, ditch Tori. Ditch being an EWF. Pardon us if we don't care. Don't mind me if I do enjoy her offerings. Just get out of the way so I can get by you TO move forward. :::Curtsies & Smiles::: Toodles ~ MysT *SLG is growing on me. Rolling Stone gave it 2 stars at the moment and then with time said wonderful things of it!!!!! But I wanted to point out someting that is disgusting to me, I have been reading the reviews on The Dent, and to be honest I am angry. there are a couple of reviews saying that Tori has lost popularity and that she has been replaced by Alanis, Jewel or Nelly Furtado. And (without dissing this others artists) I found this disgusting, this artists are mainly more interested in mainstream plastic products, and Tori had been always about ART and SELF EXPRESSION. That4s what we got to underestand. With LE, she dealt with Childhood memories, and the trauma of Rape, With UTP she dealt with the trauma of female betrayal, BFP the loss of a relationship, FTCGH the miscarriage, and TV&B explores a bit the dinamics of her new found happiness. This is not easy listening Stuff, and ALL of us have had a PROBLEMATIC ALBUM ( to me was at the time FTCGH until after various listenings I got caught on it, And now is very dear to me!) SO what I am trying to said is that, of course that you can have your opinion, but I think that is sort of pety to diss her because you don not liker her album when she was never about ear-pleasing music but all about self-search and brutal honesty, and also to say PRETTY MUCH ahead of her times!. So you should give it a try, and let get to you and see what Tori is trying to convey. just my Humble Opinion Daniel "Let the Faeries Guide you" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 05:41:46 EDT From: JNe9027355@aol.com Subject: Re: 97 Bonnie and Clyde In a message dated 9/18/2001 10:23:54 PM Pacific Daylight Time, owner-precious-things-digest@smoe.org writes: > Subject: '97 Bonnie and Clyde > > This song is very effective. You know this wonderful woman brought a gorgeous baby into the world....maybe she doesn't have time to sit down and write 12 songs....edit the songs....make them perfect. She isn't out to satisfy all of you....thats too much to expect from anymore..so if you don't like it....fine but we don't need to hear about how much it sucks to you. because people who apperciate just to be able to hear her voice you know....I think those are the real fans....they are EWF..... something true! Tori came into my life when I was in 6th/7th grade.....I was very depressed, very lost and confused....(tori and I have a bit in common).... and I was very suicidal but the only thing I had to do was light some candles, listen to her beautiful voice slip me into a trance and I'd just watch myself bleed. Things slowly became clear..... All I cared about was her and I will be DAMNED if anyone is going to put her down. I'd take a built for that woman to live and and make more albums to help more people like all of us. Tori fans should love eachother as well...espically since we're going to war...who knows what could happen next. SLG may not be her own songs but she is really showing us how far her talent can go. The only complaint with this album is WHY DID WE HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG FOR IT..... hehe. It is an inspiring CD even if they are not her words.....everything is heard differently through Tori's beautiful mouth and has new meaning....it's a great CD I listen to it 1-12 over and over....yeah I would have liked a new Tori CD all written by her...but who are we to demand so much of such an important woman. Yeah you can have your own opinion about SLG but if it's negative.....we don't want to hear it so don't even bother! "I'm chasing tornados, I'm just waiting, Call me!" This is Tori's job. Yes it is more to her, but it is a job. And more importantly, she is putting it out in the public. If I put anything out in public, I know some people will love it and some hate it. I argued this on the forum too. Art is all about opinion. To recap my analogy from the forum: If someone painted a picture of a dog pooping using dog poop as the medium, half would say it's the most brilliant piece of DaDaist art ever. The other half would say, "what is all this shit?" On the morning of the Seattle Pre-Sale, I had made sure I got the computer up and running early. While getting all of the sites in places, I got the lucky bonus of recording Tori on Regis and Kelly's show. I hadn't known it was going to be on. So, I thought it might be my lucky day. Nope. It wasn't exactly the luckiest of all days... It was 11:30 before I could get ticketmasters site to show me the purchase page. I thought I scored great tickets. I had got Sec 4E, Row B... I thought, "Wow... maybe 2nd row." Nope. I'm far left of the stage in the wheelchair accessible aisle. At least I have tickets... since the show is now sold out. I was just bummed because I'm bringing my 7-yr.-old daughter who now, may not be able to see well at all. There are all great seats in the Paramount... but, shorter people can get the short end of the stick on the floor. I know. I'm 5' tall. Well, I tried over and over to get different seats. No luck on the floor... just farther back on the same side and end aisle. So, I tried today to get to a ticketmaster location and try my luck w/ the regular sale. I was waiting for awhile outside the location when I realized they might not take credit cards. (I had a bad experience once w/ a cash only location.) So, I left to get cash. I came back and there was a girl waiting. Well, once the tickets went on sale. She got 6th row center. Me, right after her... Mezzanine 33... last row of the balcony. I kept my lower floor tickets. Bummer... So, for now, I'm going to pray there was someone who got better tickets today than they did on the pre-sale and that hopefully, they are looking to sell their pre-sale tickets that may be better than mine. My daughter is happy to go to this show. Tori invited her to a concert when Ashley was younger, but, Ashley could not make it. Ashley had originally met her when she was 1. So, this is her "long-awaited" show, well, first show. She'll be happy just to go. It's just the parent in me that wanted her to be able to see Tori well. Ashley is as much of a fan as me. Her first song was "Crucify" which she used to sing and play the piano to at 1-and-half years. So... you know. I just had to vent this to someone. And... well... if anyone has closer tickets to sell me, by all means... please e-mail me privately. One guy acted like he lost his faith in his God aka "Tori" or something when he heard this album. It's just dumb, I mean yeah this isn't the greatest thing she's done but none the less, She's an artists, and sometimes they make bad things, even if it's not intentional. She may pick up some new fans from this and perhaps alienate others. But in the end, she will always be Tori Amos, that girl that pretty much won most of our hearts the first time we heard her. We all have crushes in our lifetime and some get over them on their own or the crushie does something to piss that person off. Tori's music is great, sometimes a little "quirky" but then again I don't blame her, I'd be a little quirky if I drank as much wine as she says she does. I don't like this album yet, it may have to grow on me. But that doesn't mean that I can't put in the other 400 cd's I own of other artists or the other 42 cd's I have of Tori's. In the end it comes to the best thing to come from her putting this album out...she's touring solo! I think that is the best thing to look forward to. I've been waiting for this moment since I missed her in 96. Soon she will show us all how great she is even w/o a band behind her. I've ranted enough...and I want to plug my auction at ebay while I'm actually emailing the lists, in one of my few blurps. These seats are damn good. I've been to see Korn, The Black Crowes,Marilyn Manson, The Cure and a couple of parties that were hosted at the Bronco Bowl. Pretty much no matter where you sit (excluding upper level) You can see the artist VERY WELL. The only reason I say the upper level is bad is that it's a free for all, meaning you have to grab what you can before it's taken, plus all the smoke from cigarettes ends up there and your eyes start to burn. It's a small venue seating only a little over 3,000 people so it's quite cozy when it is compared to other Dallas venues. Trust me you'll love to see her there...it will be a memorable experience... You can pay with credit card, cashiers check, or money order or PayPal. Contact me within 24 hours of the auctions end and we can arrange delivery and payment. I just kept thinking about all the dicussion on SLG and I agree with Myst about Tori not wanting to put some brand new songs for her last record with EastWest/Atlantic. It just came to my mind that perhaps the cover project has a double intention; the stated before as Myst said, and to put and end to critics saying that her lyrics are too cryptic. By putting out an cover Album, It is not your lyrics but someone elses and in doing so Tori could finaly prove that she can reach anyones heart not matter whos material she is singing.
