The female voice is there and I bet you get to understand the female perspective when you read the stories or whatever Neil and tori are writing. Second...yeah...strange little girls..sounds a little upbeat.."pop"?..i doubt that. and b&c..well yeah that is a bit dull....the story and her voice, I think she totally got what she wanted out of the song..to make all those punks who 'dance' to eminems song..to take another look at the lyrics...scared the f**k out of me. She's not looking to make a huge hit out of that song..to me, just a statement..a in-your-f*ckin-face-statement. - -Finney....opinion ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2001 19:34:27 -0500 From: "Carmen Riojas" Subject: SLG-new stuff does anybody know if there's songs from SLG available for download? toodles CR "give me religion and a lobotomy/Beulah Land you beautiful whore/tell me when i won't need you anymore" Tori Amos "As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport." I seriously > thought Tori was going to portray the wife and her pain - she did not. > I am saddened & disappointed. I find listening to that song to be akin to watching all of Hitchcock's film Psycho in less than six minutes. I saw the sickness of the song's protagonist exposed for what it is, and I hope and believe it will lead to many discussions, some private and some highly public, which will in turn shed a new light on such monstrosities and on such sick behavior--which unfortunately isn't rare in the world. I feel a sense of pride for her having set the wheels in motion for this to happen. In very real ways, better understanding of a controlling partner's mindset does indeed provide a sort of voice for the person who is in a relationship with such a person. They often have little success convincing others of the danger they're in. That restraining orders were involved in the instance of the song's narrative gives a chilling sense of how little is often done to genuinely protect women in danger. > I'd love to know - Does Spivak stick with Tori as she moves to another > record label or is he Atlantic employed? And there should be many opportunities for some of her new original material to come out as b-sides, so maybe one's patience will be rewarded in the end.
