If it's not, then how would you convert these files to mp3s or into some other format that can be burned onto CD. On the Little Amsterdam (a Dutch tori amos page) site, there is a long list of Real Audio files, after these are downloaded, where to they go? To what exact location on your computer? Please don't give me a long-winded, in-depth, and overly involved answer that I won't understand. I'd like to know where these files go, and how to find them when creating a CD to burn them onto. For instance, I downloaded Suede-from later with jools, and it played on Real Player, how can I get this burned onto CD and most importantly where do I find it first? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 12:06:33 -0700 (PDT) From: ashy- Subject: fifty stars from fifty states so i was looking at this site on rolling stone's site and it's got all fifty states and it shows who's from what state. tori's on there for north carolina, of course. but it's a cool pic. just wanted to let y'all know ash- ===== through that and this trading list - http://members.tripod.com/thewaitress/trading/html/ tea with the waitress - http://members.tripod.com/thewaitress/waitress/html/ ashley's page - http://members.tripod.com/venusenvy/ 'rolling and unrolling, coiling, emerging, running free...' - tori amos Yahoo! So we were talking about the current hot topic of Tori being stagnant. His reply was soooo good I simply had to post it. << As to boring and unchanging .... They were talking about Tori AMOS and not some other Tori (actress, wrestler ... ) ? Unchanging .... AND ANYWAY, On a more Tori related tangent, I am really really really excited for this new CD and tour and stuff, but when will we find out about this tour? I remember with 5.5 weeks tour, we had information for quite a few months beforehand, but we really haven't heard that much yet, and I'm starting to lose hope... I'm a fairly recent Tori fan (Choirgirl era, but too late for the Plugged tour) and I've only witnessed the hype surrounding Venus, so maybe 5.5 was an exception 'cos of Alanis... I'm just super excited, and I tend to be quite impatient... please tell me to shut up if that is neccessary! I hope hope hope she does a world tour. I'll be here in the states before the wedding & in the UK after - wouldn't it be awesome if she toured so this fit our moving schedule! Part of me doubts she will do an extensive world tour simple because I wonder how that much travel would affect the baby, but it would be awesome. Just as a thought....maybe when she says that she's touring in a way that she hasn't toured for a long time she's not meaning exactly how she's playing the music i.e. solo, with band, etc but she's meaning WHERE she's touring. For the last two(three if you count the 5 1/2 Weeks tour) she has really only done North America and Europe....soooooo what I was think was that she might mean that she's going be doing more Asian countries, like in the Earthquakes and Pink tour, and yes Australia again. Perhaps I'm just wishful thinking here but I'm trying to think positively here! I haven't seen here play since 1994 so I'm kind of very desperate.... OK, now I'll go back to lurk mode..... I mean, whenever I am making a sampler for one of my friends to introduce them to Tori, I have the hardest time picking out songs, because she has so many sides to her, and I want to make sure I get a spectrum of her music... What she is is an extremely gifted pianist. The piano has always been there for her in life, even on Y Kant Tori Read. She has altered sounds throughout albums (you have seen the posts about the clavichords, Kurzweils, and whatnot, then there are the string arrangements she added to a few songs with some help, and the occasional male back-up vocalist such as Trent Reznor), and as the albums continued, she added more instruments (such as the harpsichord) until finally she had a full-fledged band. Then, to further explore, she probed into electronic music for TVAB. I mean, how more varied could you get when your main basis is a piano and your voice? Her voice is her voice, and it's basically the same with every other singer. Maybe I have misunderstood what you've said. It seems to me that over time, just like any other band or musician, she has altered her sound. I mean, it is my understanding that a lot of Toriphiles absolutely love Little Earthquakes, but can't get into To Venus and Back, because it's TOO DIFFERENT. Just my 2 yen. Black Dove <> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 May 2001 09:51:26 -0400 From: Peter Marinari Subject: Re: *feelings on tori and mallett's email* EwF's Um, not to be incredibly repetitive, but as Tori's fans we have more right than anyone else to be a little bit critical of her work. Either way we're going to love her at the end of the day. I am incredibly surprised at the violence of opinion expressed at MallettDove's email. Yes, it did read as slightly jaded my first time through, but all of what she said is incredibly true, and i totally appreciated reading what was entirely a non-ass-kissing opinion. (so, i must be in that elusive 1% that likes to hear people be "negative" about Tori). I am a big Tori fan, but i do get a little bored with some of her constructive methods, both lyrical and compositional. I think Caton is probably my favourite sideman-guitarist in all of rock and roll, but i am incredibly happy that he moved on because Tori's work with him wasn't really heading in any new directions after doing such extensive touring with him. *Venus* was like the summit of where she could go with that particular arrangement of people and emotions, and now she's moving forward into newer territory. Madonna might change her look/sound with every video, but Tori's changes at least once an album and if you're denying that you're naive. UtP bears little resemblance to LE, even though Tori wrote all the songs and Eric produced much of both. BfP sounds like nothing else on God's green earth. Ftch is one of the most sonically dynamic albums i've ever listened too. Tori is *better* at changing her sound than Madonna is, within albums and over whole cycles, and it is only in her ability to seamlessly trump Madonna in this fashion that makes Tori seem so much like "herself." Despite this, Tori was easily pegged as "Girl with Piano" up until FtCh, and i finally feel as though she's out from under the piano umbrella now even though she still plays it straight through every show. So, maybe i'm not totally with Mallett on that point, but i know what was meant. Tori is eclectic, to be sure, but within her eclecticism the amount of freshness we see varies. Yes, she still humps the piano bench and draws out all of her "grrrls." I thinkt he point is that her onstage manner hasn't ever really changed (not that it should; it just hasn't). However, there comes a point in time when you begin to wonder if she can pronounce *any* lyrics in a non-affected Tori-speak fashion. Or, if she could've possibly not recited the contents of her garden in the otherwise awing experience of Datura (sorry, i pick on Tori too much about that). However, there are things i love and cherish about Tori. I love that she can play anything on piano that she's ever heard, whether it be the piano-fied "Jaurez" or her single take of "Love Song" from Love Line. I think the prospects of the new album sounds really thrilling, especially because Neil Gaiman is entirely floored (and he's been listening to Tori longer than pretty much any of us have). Anyhow, i just wanted to say that i am a confirmed fan, and that i do expect *more* from Tori because i know she's definitely capable of it. It isn't that she's failing us, i just want her to continue to amaze rather than simple shock. And i want to congratulate Mallett on having an opinion that's unpopular (and shame on you all for saying that she should just quit the list ... closed minds indeed). - -krisis http://crush.uprush.org ps: I've been listening to Madonna since i was 4, and i've got my tickets already ;op ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #92 ************************************
