Blood Roses was interesting on the 5.5 Weeks tour but not as amazing as it is with the harpsichord. Remember, she was playing Zeppelin and Hendrix songs on her own long before she had other musicians backing her. She has no problem rocking out when she wants to. (BTW, she's played Spring Haze solo several times. And I've heard her do Raspberry Swirl on her own too, but I don't recall where. For the "louder and harder" songs -- like God and Raspberry Swirl, for instance -- she plays along with pre-recorded backing tracks. So they're not as tame as you might think.) Interestingly, when Tori toured for Little Earthquakes and I went into the club that very first time and saw only a piano, I wondered how she was going to pull it off. After all, nearly every song had multi-layered instrumentation on the album. But those piano-only shows were some of the best she's ever done. The crew would play the background music from the speakers on stage. That's what she did for God in 1994 and Suede in '99. And of course Cornflake Girl in '94. << Spring Haze >> She has done Spring Haze solo at the piano before. 10/13/99. I think it works fairly well especially because she extends certain parts and pounds on the left side of the piano during the solo bits of the song. That adds so much emotion to it. Riot Poof and all the rest that she'd want to bring out that require a band, she'd use prerecorded music from the speakers onstage I suppose. I think Juarez really lost a lot solo. It was interesting to hear once at the Royal Festival Hall concert, but after that it was not so interesting. << a short set with the band and short set solo, adding up to one great concert>> That is exactly what I had in mind when I posted a while back on this topic. I'd love that. I said that she should start the tour solo, and then squeeze in a couple of dates towards the end to show off the new songs with the band. I wish that she would change a slightly quicker rate though sometimes. She stays set in things for too long. Solo for three world tours. Band for two world tours. Now she may go back to solo again for three more before she declares, "My roots are in Zeppelin, so I'll shall tour with a band once again." Who knows? Maybe she'll bring back the harpsichord, the harmonium, and a clavichord and piano. What else can she play? ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #88 ************************************
