Matt Chamberlain (I assume it's the same one) plays drums on two songs on Stevie Nicks' new CD "Trouble in Shangri-La". The two songs are "Candlebright" and "Sorcerer." In the realm of rock and roll fantasies, since Stevie and Tori are likely to be touring at the same time, wouldn't it be awesome if they got together for a show or two? I'd love to hear them do "Landslide" together. Anyway, I should get back to work now. About the plugged version of Girl - The string part during the chorus and at the very end of the song is played by Tori on the Kurzweil. It's not a pre-recorded background track; Tori's playing each note herself, as she did on the album version. I really loved when Tori played the Kurzweil - especially during the bridge of Past the Mission. That totally revitalized the song for me. And of course in Cruel it's amazing. And She's Your Cocaine. And Horses, oh wow, yes. ;) j'ason www.yessaid.com t o r i p h o r i a In a message dated 5/13/2001 10:55:05 PM Eastern Daylight Time, handal@min.net writes: << Mallettdove asked: > When Girl is recreated live with the band, is the sampled string during > the chorus and at the end of the song [coming] from the synth or is it > prerecorded and played from the speakers on stage? That's an interesting question. I don't think anyone could figure that out just from listening. I think one would need to have noticed Tori keying the Kurzweil at the appropriate moment as she could be seen keying the backing tracks for Talula on the DDI Tour (in that instance with a foot switch), or otherwise have had a conversation with someone on the crew about it and asked them. I don't believe any of the "Girl shows" were booted on video, so I'm going to give you my best guess, which is that Tori probably keyed it herself to start it by hitting a certain key on the Kurzweil, as she would do to start the repeating background vocal part on iieee. I'd say the reason she started the backing tracks for Talula on the DDI tour with a foot switch is that since she didn't have a synthesizer nor any other keyboard-based MIDI device with her on that tour, and being the only thing like that which they needed to start off, it made the most sense to simple have her press a switch with her foot when the time came for the backing tracks. This is merely informed conjecture of course, and I'm sure if this question is an important one to anybody, that Mark would answer it if put to him on the coming tour. On the Dent I saw that it said the track listing had been altered...I didn't recognize anything different, but of course, I didn't put to memory of what it was before... Mikewhy, you out there? :) Black Dove ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 15:05:52 EDT From: JNe9027355@aol.com Subject: Re: Touring Touring in a way unlike anything she's done recently... She won't ditch the band because, as she says, "My roots are Zepplin". aside from TA's ability to convey small, emotional solace with nothing but a piano and herself, she can bring back and stylize the authentic rock 'n roll essence of some of the best pioneers in music. For this reason alone, im surprised her music doesn't appeal to more from a different spectrum! AJ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 May 2001 21:33:20 EDT From: Mallettdove@aol.com Subject: Putting the Damage On live/Riot Poof live I noticed that while going through some of the reviews of past shows during the Plugged '98 tour, that Putting the Damage On, which is one of the encore songs performed at a venue on November 4, 1998, in Madison, Wisconsin, does not have solo written next to it in parenthesis. Does this mean that the band played with her on this song at this particular venue and that there is an arrangement with the band on this song live? I'm also interesting in knowing if she plays any keyboards or piano on Riot Poof when she performs it live. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 15:03:06 EDT From: JNe9027355@aol.com Subject: Re: RAIIN In a message dated 5/8/2001 10:33:41 PM Pacific Daylight Time, owner-precious-things-digest@smoe.org writes: > Subject: Re: RAINN Day > > Here ya go, > > We also publicize the hotline through the annual RAINN Day promotion. Someone recently asked me if I knew what song Tori played at her first Peabody audition when she was 5. I thought to myself, well that certainly is something interesting, so I figured you guys might want to know. It might possibly be "You're a Grand 'Ole Flag." I'm sure there are some other Tori Amos Scholars around who might be able to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that's what she played. By the way, you can read the lyrics and hear a midi of the song here - http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/grandold.htm I'm not sure if she sang while played during the audition, but it's more likely that she only played the music, since she wasn't auditioning for voice. One last thing, I wanted to let everyone know that the web site, Toriphoria, is finally at its own domain - www.yessaid.com - but the site is still under re-construction - after a very unfortunate screw-up at Crosswinds - so come back in the future for more amazing Toriness. There's some stuff up now, so if you want to visit, please do - and say hi and things. ;) Also, issues # 1, 2, and 3 of the new Tori Amos quarterly Ears with Feet publication - "yes, said" - are now available. More info on that is also at yessaid.com Also, if anyone ever wants to know some random info on Tori, feel free to contact me and I'll reply to everyone who's endlessly fascinated by the Tori world. :) Ok, that's all for now. take care, all of you groovy people, j'ason www.yessaid.com t o r i p h o r i a ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #86 ************************************
