I got really really really excited about a Tori Amos DVD, then the date for it's release has been changed about 10 million times, and now there are several dates for anytime between July 10th and November. I'm betting that the reason why it got pushed back was because Tori was working on another album. Usually, an album means: a tour, lots of promotional work...such as music videos!!! Maybe this DVD thing is being pushed and continually pushed until it includes videos from her next album? The bonus on this DVD was supposed to be the three videos from her Venus album...but if she's just going to make another album, and possibly more videos...it makes sense to me to include those as well... Then again, they could just release this DVD with those bonus videos, people will buy it, and they'll release any other videos on singles so that we HAVE to buy them to see the video...crummy conglomerate people... Anyway, sorry if this wasn't very coherent... They've been doing it for a while, but so my brother says, it takes a while to do it so that could be the reason why it's just getting realized now. A lot of people try to trick napster and mess up the way they spell the names and add like 0's or 1's in the name and stuff. I'm not sure if they've caught on to it, but in order to download some songs, I've had to screw with the names a little bit and I'll eventually find them, and sometimes not. If you're looking for Tori, I've found a couple tricks, you can either write: Tori 1Amos, or Amos, Tori. Some things come up under that. Not many but some and they're all basically from the same couple of users. *Angela* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 20:18:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Wntrgrl Subject: Re: the pianists out there When it comes to playing Tori, I've noticed from my own and a fellow ewf's experience that a lot of the time the sheet music is REALLY bad. For some songs we kinda wonder who wrote the sheet music, cuz it's so different from what Tori plays. Yet at the same time there are some songs which are written really close to the way Tori actually plays them. Like Marianne, Winter, Leather, to name a few. But there are some songs like Cornflake Girl, or Butterfly, for example, which only like the first line is how she plays it and the rest something else. So it kinda depends on the song--whether it's playable or similar to Tori's version. Sometimes we (my friend and I) take the songs that are written bad and kinda improv/comp. the rest of the song to make it sound more Tori-ish. ToriCon is the annual gathering of Toriphiles. This is the sixth ToriCon, and will be held in Tucson, AZ, during the second weekend in August. All other info is below. :) /nm Aimee Lortskell wrote: > registration has finally begun! a web version of this FAQ should be upsometime today or tomorrow at www.rmta.org/rmta/toricon01.html, and it will include handy paypal buttons and cgi forms. ************************************************************************** ToriCon 2001 Frequently Asked Questions *************************************************************************** Contents: 1. What is ToriCon? 2. What will we do at ToriCon? 3. How much will it cost me and what do I get? 4. What about hotel costs and information? 5. How do I register for ToriCon? 6. What about forms? I LOVE forms! 7. What rules are there for behaviour at ToriCon? 8. I can't attend, so how can I get the ToriCon '01 shirt? **************************************************************************** 1. What is ToriCon? ToriCon is an annual event put together for rec.music.tori-amos and any other toriphiles who wish to attend. It's basically a chance for us to get together in person and giggle a lot, and all toriphiles and their friends and lovers are welcome to attend. ToriCon 2001 will take place in Tucson, Arizona the weekend of August 10-12, and proceeds will go to RAINN, the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network founded by Tori. ToriCon 2000 raised more than $2200 for RAINN through registration, t-shirt sales, and an online auction, and we hope to do as well this year. If you are a victim of rape, abuse, or incest, you can call RAINN for counselling toll free at 1-800-656-HOPE. All information about ToriCon 2001 will be posted to rec.music.tori-amos under the -G- header and also sent to people who have signed up for the mailing list. The mailing list doesn't get any extra or priveleged information, but is good for those who either have problem newsfeeds or can't/don't keep up with rmta. Email toricon@rmta.org if you have any questions or if you'd like to be added to or dropped from the mailing list. A current copy of the FAQ can always be had by sending mail to toricon-info@rmta.org. 2. What will we do at ToriCon? We have plans for a banquet and dance Saturday night, and that's really the main scheduled activity. This event is the highlight of the weekend, and it's like a prom for freaks; we encourage attendees to dress up in any way they like, be it formal wear, drag, or some sort of uniform or costume. Think you can't dance? go to: http://home.earthlink.net/~zefrank/invite/swfs/navigation.html There will be space available in the hotel for people to meet and hang out at all times during the weekend, and we'll have a Tucson guide for attendees which will recommend nearby activities, restaurants, etc. In short, we'll keep you busy. If the last five cons are any indication, you'll get about 4 hours of sleep the entire weekend. :) If you have any suggestions or ideas for activities, mail our host Lydia Simon at lydia_simon@msn.com or start a discussion about it in rmta. Most of our activities throughout the weekend will be spontaneous 3. How much will it cost me and what do I get? The registration fee this year is $70. for those 21 or over, you may add $20 to your fee if you wish to partake of alcoholic goodies at the con. Here's what you get for your fee: - - ToriCon 2001 t-shirt - - ToriCon 2001 ID badge (www.apci.net/~jbbridge/badge01.jpg) - - The ToriCondom - - A guide to stuff in Tucson - - Dinner at Saturday's banquet and dance - - Admittance to our hospitality suite - - Group higs - - Other assorted goodies yet to be determined - - The chance to meet the lovely and talented organizers of this fine event 4. What about hotel costs and information? We will be staying at the Marriott near the University of Arizona. It's a brand new building with a gym and an outdoor pool, and all rooms have two phone lines, dataport, hairdryer, iron/board, and coffeemaker. There are dozens of restaurants, shops, museums, etc. within a few blocks, so we won't be making the long treks or drives into the boonies like we did last year. There's covered parking across the street from the hotel which costs $6 a day on weekdays and is free on Saturdays and Sundays, and that can be billed to your room. You will pay the hotel upon check-out, and they will require either a credit card number or cash deposit upon check-in. Guest rooms will cost $84 per night for up to two people, and $99 per night for three or four people or for rooms with king size beds. Our rates are available for the Wednesday and Thursday nights before the con and the Sunday night after, and we encourage people to come early and stay late for maximum enjoyment. The organizers will be making the reservations in order to get these rates, so please don't call the hotel yourself. Use the reservation form in section 6 of this FAQ to make reservations through us. You can use the following chart to figure hotel cost per person for ToriCon 2001, taxes are included: - -------------------------- # persons/room per night - -------------------------- 1 $93.08 1 (king) $109.50 2 $46.54 2 (king) $54.75 3 $36.50 4 $27.38 - -------------------------- 5. How do I register for ToriCon? Here are our requirements and deadlines, all forms are to be found in section 6 of this FAQ. As deadlines come up, warnings will be posted on rmta and to the mailing list. _June 22, 2001_ Aimee must have received your completed registration form by email to toricon@rmta.org by this date. If you send in your registration form late, we cannot guarantee that we can accept your registration. _June 29, 2001_ Aimee must have received a room reservation form from someone in your group by email. Assign one person in your room to send it in to toricon@rmta.org; if it is not received on time we can't guarantee your reservation at con rates. _June 29, 2001_ Aimee must have received your registration fee of US$70 (US$90 if you are 21 or over and choose to partake of alcohol) by snail mail or by paypal. You can pay throgh paypal by using the link in the web version of this FAQ at www.rmta.org/rmta/toricon01.html, or send the proper amount to toricon@rmta.org when logged into your paypal account. If you pay by snail mail, send your check or money order in US$ made out to ToriCon. We recommend that US residents mail this by June 22 to make sure it arrives on time. for those outside the US, we recommend sending it by June 15. Please, use a security envelope for your payment and DO NOT send cash through the mail. Send your payment to: ToriCon '01 P.O. Box 430121 St Louis, Mo 63143 Aimee will confirm by email when she receives a form or payment from you. 6. What about forms? I LOVE forms! Well, then enjoy! This section contains the roomate request, registration, and reservation forms. Please pay attention to deadlines. Finding roommates: we recommend finding roommates on rmta, and you are also welcome to bring along your own friends/lovers/relatives. We recommend either emailing people you'd like to room with or posting under the -G- header requesting a space in someone's room or offering any extra space in yours. If you need help finding roommates, please fill out the following form ASAP and send it to toricon@rmta.org. Aimee will be helping people find roommates right up to our deadlines, but the sooner you send this in the sooner you'll have roomies and be able to send in the completed registration form. - ---cut here---------------------------------------------------------- ToriCon '01 roommate request form - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- legal name: email address: number of roomies desired: smoking preference (if any): gender preference in roomies (if any): nights you intend to stay (wed/thu/fri/sat/sun): other roomie requirements: - ---cut here----------------------------------------------------------- Registration: You must return the following form to toricon@rmta.org by June 22 in order to be registered, and each attendee must send in a separate form (although they may be contained in the same email). If you attended a previous con, you can leave most of part 1 blank except for your full name and any information in that section which has changed since last time. You must also be listed on a room reservation form if you want the special con rates; see information about that below this form. - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------ ToriCon '01 registration form - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- part 1 basic information - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- your full legal name: screen name (if different): date of birth: street address: city, state/country, postal code: phone number including area code: e-mail address: name of emergency contact: phone number: any allergies or random medical stuff we should know about, including dietary restrictions: - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- part 2 con goodies - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- size t-shirt (S-XXL): name you would prefer on your ID badge: - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------- Room reservation forms: AFTER you have arranged for any roommates you want, have someone in your room fill this in and send it to toricon@rmta.org by June 29. We will not be playing musical rooms anymore, because it was way too complicated. We recommend that you either get together with roomies who are staying the same nights as you are, or that you make separate arrangments to switch to a different room on an extra night. For instance, if Bramble and Nymsa are rooming together Friday and Saturday, but Nymsa wants to stay Sunday night also, Nymsa can make private arrangements to bunk in someone else's room Sunday night and pay them cash for her share of the room. However, Nymsa should still be listed with Bramble on the room reservation form. If anyone needs help finding people to stay with on an extra night, mail toricon@rmta.org for assistance. Note for underage attendees: Your parents or guardians are welcome to tag along, as Maggie's parents did at the first con. If they fill in the room reservation form by June 29, we can offer them the same hotel rates as attendees. If your parents wish for Aimee to act as your guardian during the con, please email toricon@rmta.org. - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------- ToriCon '00 room reservation form - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ king bed or 2 queens: smoking room?: nights staying (wed/thu/fri/sat/sun): legal names of occupants: - ---cut here-------------------------------------------------------------- 7. What rules are there for behaviour at ToriCon? Same as the last five years, and here they are again, for your edification: Any sexual behaviour at ToriCon is to take place privately, in your private room and only in the presence of people who wish to participate or watch. You have the right to kick people out of your room if you don't wish them to watch or participate, but keep in mind that this might not be applicable if they are your roommate and wish to sleep, etc. Any disputes will be handled by Lydia and Aimee, and if necessary by hotel security. These rules also apply to the use of illegal drugs (or underage use of alcohol). All of these things are your business and your decision, but they must not be done publicly or in the presence of those who object. Also, please note that Lydia and Aimee will not take responsibility for any lawbreaking you may do at ToriCon; it is up to you to deal with the consequences of your own actions. There should be no pressure on ANY attendee of ToriCon to do anything they don't want to, be it sexual or otherwise, regardless of their reason for abstaining. Again, Lydia and Aimee will be enforcing this. You know we can kick your sorry ass, so don't even think about it. If there are any problems of this (or any) nature, attendees should immediately report to Lydia and/or Aimee. If you don't let us know there's a problem, we don't have a chance to fix it or protect other attendees. 8. I can't attend, so how can I get the ToriCon '01 shirt? First, you suck for not attending. Second, anyone can order a ToriCon '01 t-shirt to pretend they don't suck! Proceeds will go to RAINN, and you can order shirts by sending a check or money order for $20 per shirt (US$25 per shirt if you need the shirt mailed outside the US) made out to ToriCon along with your name, email, snail mail address, which shirt you're ordering, and size to: ToriCon '01 P.O. Box 430121 St Louis, Mo 63143 You may also order through paypal using the link in the web version of this FAQ at www.rmta.org/rmta/toricon01.html or by sending the proper amount to toricon@rmta.org when logged into your paypal account. However you pay, we must receive your order by _June 29, 2000_, or your order may be rejected. We recommend that people within the US send their order by June 22, and those outside by June 15. Please use a security envelope and DO NOT send cash through the mail. Also still available is the rmta shirt, proceeds from which also benefit RAINN. For ordering information and to see the design, check out http://www.rmta.org/rmt-a/shirts.html. *************************************************************************** ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #78 ************************************
