Beenie came and sat :-) Non-concert duets/background: BT - Blue Skies Sandra Bernhard - Little Red Corvette Robert Plant - Down By The Seaside Ferron - 90% of Phantom Center Album Tom Jones - I Wanna Get Back With You Michael Stipe - It Might Hurt A Bit Stan Ridgeway - 30% of the Mosquitos Album Al Stewart - 20% of Last Days of the Century Album Tess Makes Good - Background Vocals, as Ellen Amos, during opening credits of China O'Brien Video Must be others. I'd LOOOOVE to hear the Stipe song and if anyone I know has it, it would be Richard. Richard, what ya say... wanna have pity on an old ewf??? Folks who have sampled/covered Tori: Jawbox - Cornflake Girl Faye Wong - Silent All These Years Salt Tank - Me & A Gun Mad@Chris - Me & A Gun Kim Fowley - dedicated his album let The Madness In to Tori and has several songs on it about her, but was unsuccessful in obtaining rights to do covers of Leather & Past The Mission. Jemma Price - errrr... uhhhh... speechless. Must be others. Somehow I have this nagging thought that something on the Great Expectations Soundtrack is a duet, though I can't see how. Oy! Finn... errr... Siren... oh feeerget it, I'm just tired. Final thought: Jesse Camp. I was hella jealous when he and Tori "bonded" on the MTV set and sang Dream On... but shoot JESSE, what were ya thinkin' with that "Rock Band"??? Goes ta show folks when ya get an EFFORTLESS, high paying, babe magnet gig like MTV VJ ya should just leave well enough alone and enjoy the splendor. Jesse was cool and yesindeeedeee me & my kidlets voted for him. It was the no malice goofiness mixed with his genuine & energetic love of music that appealed to us. MMmmkkkaaay... time to go play Earthworm Jim with my Son :-) Sunday Morning Toodles ~ MysT *** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2000 18:10:39 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: Duets... (*ME*?) I don't have it and I never heard it. I don't have any recordings that haven't been out among the general Tori public for a long time already, and I plan to keep it that way. Someone once offered to make me a copy of a recording of her when she was a little girl and I didn't want it. It's too much responsibility. She doesn't want stuff like that to get out, and if I had it there would be a chance, no matter how small, that it could be stolen, or else misplaced and found by the wrong person. I have enough stuff to worry about in general without such things as that. I'd like to hear it one day, though. Some people have the impression that I'm an insaniac collector. There are collectors who are five hundred times more into it than *I* ever was. My main thing is seeing shows. The shows overwhelm me--as does their immediacy--and seeing how the songs develop over the tours fascinates me. To see one show or a small number of shows is to look at a few photographs. To see many consecutive shows in a row or a lot of shows from many times during a tour is to watch a film, and it's amazing to me to have been able to do such a thing. I've been lucky. That has brought me to deeper appreciation of the music and of the person. As I once said to her in a note, to have observed the depth of her humanity has increased my self-respect as a human being. Buying a record because it's in a sleeve I don't already have interests me not in the least. I don't mean to disparage others but that's simply where *I'm* coming from. I just wanted to be clear about that because sometimes I do get mail which assumes I'm a world-class collector. I am not. And whatever it is MysT has decided about me isn't true, either. I *would* like to be able to find as many radio station interviews as I can, though. :-) Ah, well. Someday. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #271 *************************************
