a warning for america online users:

the new version of aol (6.0) appears to *only* send html-formatted
mail; that is, unlike previous versions, there is no option to allow
plain text mail.  since there is system-wide ban on html mail for
smoe.org mailing lists, any mail to precious-things from an aol 6.0
user will be bounced to mike or i for approval.  furthermore, the
moderation policy for precious-things is to automatically reject any
html-formatted mail.  while we realize there's nothing that can be done
by aol 6.0 users, mike and i are not going to change the policy because
of it.

aol is aware of the situation and they say they are working on a fix,
but there is no timeline for its completion.  so, i'd recommend that
regular precious-things posters who use aol hold off on upgrading for
the time being.  if you have upgraded to 6.0 and were wondering why
your posts were not being approved, this probably explains it. you
might want to consider backing off to version 5.0 or opening up a
web-based mail account (e.g., hotmail, yahoo, etc.) for posting to
precious-things.

i know this is a pain and i'm sorry about that.  i am looking into a
way to deal with this on smoe.org but that'll take some time to fix up
as well.  if you have any questions or want to complain, feel free to
write mike and i off-list.
