At that time, they refused. Maybe >they'd be more open to doing so now. i've been talking with richard about this and i believe they would be interested in any earnest offers of assistance regarding the future of the fanzine. i don't know if that means they'd continue publishing rdt or not, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to contact them about it. be cautious though: publishing a fanzine is a lot more work that you'd ever expect. even with tons of help. i'm amazed that homeground, the KaTe bush fanzine which was the model for rdt, has been published as long as it has -- and by the same people! in any event, it's crystal-clear that the caldwells will accept any help offered for the last four issues. >It's disappointing that the US will have no official fanclub. I know that >I'm spoiled by the R.E.M. fanclub [1] [2], but it would be nice to see a >Tori fanclub on this side of the pond that actually -does- something. agreed. maybe with the passing of rdt, some enthusiastic new blood and some commitment from tori's management, this is a good opportunity for this to occur. as for rdt, i think the element i'll miss (and have already missed) most are the articles about and interviews with people in tori's camp. the dent and other websites are perfectly great at disseminating news and pointers to print and web articles and interviews with tori and the mailing lists/newsgroup/dent forum provide excellent places for fan interaction and outlets for essays...but you aren't going to see a discussion with the piano tech who was responsible for making sure the "bells for her" piano sounded right on the under the pink tour or an interview with al stewart with a focus on tori. perhaps the caldwells can (re)cultivate their relationship with tori's management and allow for folks with an interest to try and continue to provide these kinds of articles to the net-based fan community? on a related note, the dent and other websites are great at what they are - -- clearinghouses for tori information -- but i'd like to see more original content (ugh, hate that word). i'm talking about personal stories, detailed analysis, essays, and so forth. the existing fora for fan interaction provide a good platform for this kind of stuff, but the quickness of that kind of communication has lead to "drive-by" postings instead of more in-depth stuff. i don't think you can achieve this in a mailing list/newsgroup/webboard without encouragement and moderation. on the other hand, an active fanzine, with an editor and such, is the perfect medium for this kind of thing. whether it's print or web-based isn't really material (though i will say that a print zine adds some "heaviness" to the text which is lacking on the web). you can argue that the web allows any of us to say whatever we want where ever we want, but i think that a central site through which one can find all that material is a better way to go. i mean, how easy is it to find this stuff now? maybe something like the news page of toriamos.org, which allows anybody to submit a story, is in order for fan-oriented articles and such could be added to toriamos.org? woj ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2000 20:11:50 EDT From: Judas658@aol.com Subject: Re: does Here in my head tie in w/Winnie the pooh?
