Hi Guys, I was reading a book at some stupid hour in the morning today, and came across this particular quote. You'll need some background first. The book is "The Nation's Favourite" - a book about Radio 1 - our national "pop" station, owned by the BBC. Status Quo are a really middle-of-the-road, intensely dull rock band who had hits with Rocking All Over The World, Down Down, and Ice In The Sun (for those of you who go that far back) - and they'd been banned from the 'new look' Radio 1 which was far too interested in playing Prodigy and other less traditional stuff. They sued. Anyway, in this book, there's a comment from Status Quo's lead singer. Maybe this'll mean nothing to you non-Brits, but hey... - --- Francis Rossi: "Maybe we played into [Matthew Bannister, Radio 1 controller]'s hands. It brought a high profile to the idea that this was going to be a station for young people. ... I like current music. I liked "love Is The Law" by the Seahorses on TOTP, but I can't deal with the fact that it's "new" because there's no way - it sounds like a cross between The Beatles and Badfinger. I liked a recent Wallflowers record, and 'Gangsta's Paradise'. But mostly with rap [blows a raspberry] - I'm not interested. I don't see that the street culture of LA has anything to do with West Drayton. I play CDs in my car. I play Tori Amos, although I always did like a girl who sings with her legs apart." I'm wondering if anyone might have a good quality version---i have a plenty of things i could copy in return. just as an aside, all day i've been listening to Never Seen Blue--it's so incredibly beautiful. thAnk you adam ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2000 17:46:38 CDT From: "bRAINY bOY" Subject: image search Hi all I'm deciding to take advantage of this newsgroup by asking if anyone knows where I can get a decent scanned copy of that image of tori's name in her own hair. I'm in need of it for a project for school and I'm not lucky enough to own the cd it came on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I just bought Paul Oakenfold's latest release (he is a trance DJ for those of you who have no idea who I am talking about) called Another World, and there is a song on it called Eugina 2000 by Salt Tank. I was listening along with my headphones and heard '...do you know Carolina, where the biscuits are soft and sweet...' and I think it is Tori singing. My friends and I are debating it, so I sent an email to Salt Tank to find out for sure. Regardless, it's from Me and a Gun, so it's still a bit of Tori out there ;) I am going to try to convert it to an MP3 - I don't know if my software does that yet - and if I do, I'll put it out somewhere so others can hear........ Thanks! - -sheina _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Around the release of FTCH, some people from rec.music.tori-amos approached the Caldwells with just such an offer. At that time, they refused. Maybe they'd be more open to doing so now. It's disappointing that the US will have no official fanclub. I know that I'm spoiled by the R.E.M. fanclub [1] [2], but it would be nice to see a Tori fanclub on this side of the pond that actually -does- something. Between Upside Down and now Really Deep Thoughts, US fans have really been left hanging. /nad {whose cat is sprawled in her lap and snoring} [1] For ten bucks a year (twelve if you're outside the US), you get at least four digests a year, plus a Christmas package that usually includes a fanclub-only single (one year it was a video!), a calendar, a sticker, and other assorted goodies. In years when the band is doing a lot, the fanclub often sends out more than four digests, or sends out quick postcards or stickers to tell fans of an upcoming release, etc. [2] I know that some other artists have similarly stellar fanclubs. Pearl Jam and Barenaked Ladies come to mind immediately. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #232 *************************************
