The only thing I have received was, after writing like, 6 times, asking whether they received my payment, and where were my issues, I was told that yes, they did receive my payment. I just wanted to make sure, because my check had been cashed. But they did not say anything about where my issues were. I'm wondering why this is. I know this isn't a ploy to screw Tori fans, however, they are screwing Tori fans. I just never bitched before, because I was just letting it go, thinking that my incident was a one time thing for them. I guess not. Now I'm f-ing pissed. Not because of the money, but if they couldn't handle putting the fanzine together for all the fans that are subscribed, they should write letters to half those fans saying, sorry, we can't process all these requests at this time, with a refund, INSTEAD OF CASHING THEIR CHECKS AND STILL NOT PUTTING THEM ON THE MAILING LIST! assholes. stuff, micah ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 15:32:00 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: fanzines At 01:26 PM 9/30/00 -0400, Dracovixen@aol.com wrote: >I'd like to find any fanzines at all. Anyone here subscribe to it? How is it? There are two Tori fanzines currently in existence: Really Deep Thoughts (US) and Take to the Sky (UK). RDT hasn't put out an issue in bloody well forever. The last one was from November of last year, and the previous one was just before Choirgirl. They used to do four-ish issues a year, but I think that the Caldwells' interest is waning. I don't believe that TttS has put out out since just before FTCH, but I could be mistaken on that one (can anyone help me out here?). There used to be a fanzine called Upside Down, but it's went belly-up. The last I heard, there were still fans who were trying to get refunds for the merchandise they'd attempted to purchase from UD. Personally, I'd pass on sending RDT the $17, 'cause heaven only knows when you'll actually get the next digest. I've probably been spoiled by the R.E.M. fanclub (minimum four digests a year, plus a Christmas package that always includes a fanclub-only single), though, and that's only $10 a year. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Oct 2000 21:50:52 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: more on selling At 09:12 AM 9/28/00 -0500, Daisy Dead Petals wrote: > >Well, the rmta site is down, so I cant determine prices that way...drat! I know >that some people collect them exclusively. I also know, from working at a >radio station, that selling promos is illegal as well. For the most part, those promos that just have a single song (or a couple of radio edits of the same song) on them aren't worth that much -- call it a max of US$10 each. There are exceptions, such as the LDB promo and God guitar remixes. Gold-stamped promos (that is, the commercial release with a gold stamp on the front that says "don't sell this or we'll chop your testicles off") usually aren't worth more than a new commercial copy of the same thing. For example, I have a gold-stamped FTCH album, and it's worth $15ish. Promos with artwork that is unavailable elsewhere, or tracks unavailable elsewhere, are where the real interest is at. For the first two types of promos I listed above, the people who are interested in them are generally only the absolute true collectors, the types that must get their hands on everything that they can. (That is, me. :) But items with other interesting goodies on them have more interest to more people, and are worth more. Good examples of this would be the PT promo, the UtP promo with original artwork, etc. >Why is Tori stuff going for less at this particular time, like /nad said? Is >it because Tori doesnt have new material out right now? Pretty much. When there's some time between albums and tours, interest fades, and less people are looking to increase their collections. I know I've seen -excellent- items go on eBay for less than half of what they were selling for even just a year ago. This doesn't mean that -all- items go for less. I know I've seen some things go for a whole lot of money, too. I gave up watching a YKTR vinyl at $300, when you can usually get one of those for $100ish. *shrug* The marketplace is never easy to explain. Why would someone ever pay $100+ for the four-song Choirgirl promo a week before the album came out? Were those four songs worth -that- much for the week you got to enjoy them before the rest of us mere mortals? You really take your chances. :/ /nad ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #227 *************************************
