[Mysterilady2001@cs.com] COMPLETE Unplugged Tree [StephoBoBepho@aol.com] selling boots [myth@smyrnacable.net] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 02:34:38 EDT From: Mysterilady2001@cs.com Subject: eBay boot $$$ + more... In a message dated 9/26/00 10:33:19 PM Pacific Daylight Time, owner-precious-things-digest@smoe.org writes: << In general, original pressed bootlegs are not worth more than US$20 for a one-CD boot, and US$40 for a two-CD boot. The only general exception to this is the original "Tori Stories" set (white box with the Spin '96 picture on the cover, booklet with pictures, and picture discs with Pauline Stuckey artwork), which usually fetches US$100. >> Hi ya EWF ~ As the official eBay expert here I can tell you this... certain boots seem to make the 3, 5, 7 or 10 day listing on eBay and others, well, get "caught" the first day out. Recently the infamous "Kiss On The Glass" (nick named "Kiss My Ass" by Tori) didn't make it 2 days before being found out and (to turn a phrase) was "booted" off eBay. I've sold boots on there and never been caught, booted, reported, etc. Some of the most known and sought after boots like "Covering 'Em", "Fairy Tales", "Forgotten Earthquakes", "L'Affaire d'Amoreuse", "Purple Rose", "Unreadable Tori And Other Rarities", "Tori The Fox", "Under The Covers", "Upside Down" & especially "Y Kant Tori Read And Other Rarities" fetch a really nice price, sometimes exceeding 40 or 50 US dollars IF they have the original artwork. In a category by itself is "Tori Stories" which ALWAYS exceeds well over 150.00 US. I've never, in all my time on eBay, ever seen a set go for less. I've seen a set of the 4 disc's plus all artwork in a near perfect case go for 250.00 US. (Sorry /nad) In my opinion if Daisy needs the money to diaper 'lil Ian's booty eBay is the best way to go. The listing of boots is the trick. First rule: DON'T refer to it as a boot in the title. That's a sure fire way to get closed down. Second: List your tracks and as much info about TORI you can: Where the tracks themselves were recorded. Third: ASSUME the reader/bidder understands it's a boot. State in the ad that if anyone has a questions to contact you before bidding. Then, Fourth: Stick by your computer to answer questions in a timely manner and keep a list of the email address of your high bidder and the high bid they were willing to pay. That way you can still make the deal even if eBay shuts you down. If you want to make $$$ selling your boots that's the best way I know of. Yeah, yeah Tori trading community, blah blah blah... you can see how active I am in that. LOL! (No offense to anyone.) It's just not my style. I am not at this time a boot collector/trader. Sure I have a bunch, but they dwarf my authentic Tori stuff and I pay very little attention to them at this time in my collecting life. The rule for selling &/or buying anything is this: Whatever the market allows is it's worth. And on eBay, while worth goes up & down like a demented Jack In The Box it's still your best bet for making $$$. OK, since were talking eBay here I'll announce this: My wonderful, kind, sweet and utterly fantastic boyfriend Jim found a whole slew of rare Tori flats, bought them for me and sent them from the UK. One of each for my collection and one of each for me to sell. They are on eBay now and end in a few days. I usually don't bother this list with my eBay biz but I think this time it's an exception. Any serious collectors with some cash to burn should check them out because they are that rare. In my whole time on eBay I've not ever seen some of these offered. To get there type www.ebay.com into your browser, then once on eBay type Tori Amos Flat into the search engine. And finally to sum all this eBay fun if anyone recalls I had 2 Pretty Good Year Pt 2's with the gold bee and was looking for a black bee. Well, as I reported 2 weeks back I found one and paid 20.50 for it. Pretty Good Deal I think. This week I auctioned off my extra PGY Pt 2 CD with the gold bee and it sold for 26.00! I actually MADE money in the deal. I can just hear Tori singing: "Pretty Great Deal, ahhhh haaa... Pretty Great" Woo Hoo! OK, enough gloating :-) HeHe Toodles ~ MysT ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 19:25:18 EDT From: StephoBoBepho@aol.com Subject: COMPLETE Unplugged Tree Marla has chosen me (stephobobepho@aol.com) and Steve for the UK (steve@circuslights.com) to run a nice tree to distribute the complete audience recorded Unplugged performance. Here's what we're going to do... I've been involved in a few trees (and I know how much they usually suck to run) and I'd like for this one to run as smoothly as possible (which is asking a lot I know). THERE ARE GOING TO BE SEMI-STRICT PROCEDURES FOR THIS TREE... So please be prepared! Before we do anything, I want to find out how many of us are actually interested in this boot. Remember, this is the only known copy on CDR of Tori's complete performance for Unplugged June 25, 1996 (Setlist is at the bottom). IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in this special boot, please go to the following URL and subscribe: http://www.egroups.com/group/stephobobepho THERE WILL BE NO FURTHUR POSTS TO THIS FORUM REGARDING THIS TREE so, if you're seriously interested, go to the above site and you'll get the skinny from there. If you have ANY questions regarding this boot (yes, it was cleaned up from a tape source and no I don't know yet how good it sounds) please feel free to e-mail me and/or Steve PRIVATELY. Please keep in mind, I just found out yesterday that Steve and I were going to be doing this tree so details are a little sketchy but they WILL be forthcoming... You'll know what's up as soon as I do. - -=huggers=- - - Stepho :o) Setlist: eg=electric guitar ag=acoustic guitar p=piano h=harpiscord Leather (p) Blood Roses (h) Putting The Damage On (p) Cornflake Girl (p/ag) - 3 takes of this song Doughnut Song (p/ag) In The Springtime of His Voodoo (p/ag) Silent All These Years (p) Marianne (p) Silent All These Years (p) - messed up, needed to take break Precious Things (p) Icicle (p) Caught a Lite Sneeze (h/p/eg) Me and A Gun Somewhere Over The Rainbow (p) Hey Jupiter (p/eg) Honey (p/eg) Space Dog (p/eg) - she forgot the lyrics midway In The Springtime of His Voodoo (p/ag) - MTV made her redo this ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 20:16:15 -0400 From: myth@smyrnacable.net Subject: selling boots I'm sorry. I don't post much, and when I do it's never to take issue with something anyone else has said because I am a live and let live type of girl, but the recent post here indicating acceptance of the practice of selling bootlegs really disgusted me. Some people think it's okay to sell silver boots, so -maybe- that was all that was being referred to. [I'm not even down with that, myself. If I wanted to sell a silver boot I would post here, or on tori-boot, and offer it for a reasonable price. I got DDI Boulder [2 cds] that way myself for only $20.] So....given that benefit of the doubt.....let me go on to say that under no circumstances can I see any acceptability in selling CDR bootlegs that you make yourself. Period. Not on ebay, not in a store, not off your webpage, no way. A CDR bootleg, with artwork, breaks down in cost like this: $1 each cdr blank, if you're not a smart shopper. I get mine from buy.com for 65-70 cents each, and they are Kodaks in jewel cases. about $2-3 for artwork....AT MOST....if you use what I use, nice heavy glossy paper...top of the line. Most ppl don't, so you can figure more like $1 for inserts. about 35 cents for a double jewel case, if applicable. postage. I wanted to include that info for you non-traders out there, so you can see just how badly you are getting ripped off when you buy a cdr boot on ebay. Most of the boots found on ebay these days are CDR. Any bootleg in existence can be had for blanks and postage over on tori- boot. As for the lame "what the market will bear" justification, it is not even appropriate when dealing with "product" of this nature. People buying boots on ebay are doing so because they have NO CLUE that they can get them from a place like tori-boot. It happened to me, back when I first became a toriphile....I bought Upside Down for $50 on ebay. Pisses me off now. No one is going to pay an outrageous price on ebay when they know they can get it other ways, for next to nothing. If I'm going to buy a tv I know of lots of places that I can compare models and prices to get the best deal, and the people who sell tvs know that too, so they try to be competitive with each other. THAT is "the market"...where people are making informed decisions. Selling boots on ebay is taking advantage of fellow toriphiles who simply don't know that another option exists. You may as well try to jusitfy scamming the elderly, or stealing candy from children. I find the thought that one toriphile would knowingly do this to another apalling. And don't even get me started on how it is basically stealing...from Tori...whom everyone here professes respect for as an artist, well, how respectful is it to steal her work to line your own pockets? And just so you know, there is a group of traders who take it upon themselves to keep an eye on ebay and report bootleg auctions that are not silver. You won't go to jail or anything, ebay will just pull your auction. And your bidders will be notified of how they can obtain by reasonable means the show they were bidding for. That is enough from me on the subject. I just couldn't let the thought that selling bootlegs is acceptable practice go unhampered into the Tori community. ~~julie ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #223 *************************************
