I know there was some talk about datura and what it is around the time TVaB was released, but I thought I'd ad something (unless it was already discussed). I was watching the discovery channel and there was special about hard to beleive things or something like that. Anyway, there was a place in africa or south america (yeah I know maybe I should have paid attention a bit more) where there are liek priest-type people who make these potions and make people into zombies. Like there was this guy on there who apparently died like 20 years ago and he was buried and everything but now he's alive, like zombified or something. Like the priests would zombify someone and they'd be their slaves for a certain amount of time. It was pretty freaky. ANYWAY, in the potion they use to make these people zombies, datura was mentioned more than once. Apparently (for those who didn't know) it's deadly deadly. Like really toxic and one wiff of it when it's burning or something will send you to your grave. Well there ya go, little more info for us all. Thank you and till next time Jeremy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 00:44:30 EDT From: "Liquid Pie" Subject: Re: >Can anyone here tell me all the singels that are made from each album era? Here's a list of all the singles that I know of. One of the Tower Records near me stocks a bunch of Tori Amos singles, mostly ones from Venus but it does have one of the God singles and Cornflake Girl and the such. But for the older and rarer singles, look online. Y Kant Tori Read: no clue about singles. Before my time. :-) Little Earthquakes: Silent All These Years, Crucify, Winter Under The Pink: God, Cornflake Girl, Talula Boys For Pele: Professional Widow, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Hey Jupiter, In the Springtime of his Voodoo from the choirgirl hotel: Spark, (parts 1 & 2 I believe) Raspberry Swirl, Jackie's Strength To Venus and Back: Bliss, 1000 Oceans, Concertina, Glory of the 80's (parts 1 & 2) ~ there are also the singles that weren't on albums, such as Tori and BT's 'blue skies'. ~ forgive me if this incomplete. This is from memory of what I've seen and what I have. The book retails for 29.95 but you needn't ever pay that. I've never paid retail for a single one that has been in my possession. Most I've paid was 18.00, least was 9.00. Try eBay or if you don't want to wait I know a seller who regularly has perfect TAC's for 15.00 + 3.00 S&H. I love mine not only because it is about a complete list as I've ever found with only minor errors or oversights - Pro Wid (It's Gotta Be Big) UK CD single is missing for instance - but otherwise it's a Toriphiles dream, to me at least. The BIG plus in having this book is twofold: 1. You can get specific Atlantic & EW numbers for each item & 2. You can actually see the items. For example: the gold bee/black bee on Pretty Good Year; Red & black rings on a genuine YKTR CD. Plus front, spine and back cover art for CD's, 45's, LP's & cassettes, and labels for LP's & 45's etc. Many, many people are out there to scam you my fellow EWF, know the goods before you buy. Or, maybe I shouldn't tell you all this. I don't need more competition. I've picked up some AMAZING deals on quite rare items on eBay, Yahoo, Amazon and at music stores, flea markets, etc.,... simply because the people had no idea what a find they had in their possession. :::BIG grin::: Bottom line is that this book is an investment, and since it's now OOP (out of print), it's a Tori collector's item as well. Hell, it's such a well respected publication it's even sold at Tori Amos Direct. BTW, does anyone know of any person possessing a snowglobe? It lists all the albums and singles, US and otherwise. I don't know how much it is, probably $20 or so...I've seen it at Barnes and Noble but you might be able to find it cheaper on amazon.com. But I don't really understand what it had to do with the song either. Maybe when that razor comes and slices the wires and frees Tori it's like they symbolize all the things she sings about and how she was tied to them and now that the 80's are over, she's finally free of them. >Caught a Lite Sneeze had a visually stunning video, but I can >see no >connection with the song whatsoever. It was a really gorgeous video. And, well, maybe it's just cause I'm female, but I think I understood the video after watching it a couple of times. Not to sound sexiest or anything tho! :-) I always thought the song was about her wanting to have a baby and not being able to for various reasons, mostly guy related...i was going to go on the lyrics interpretation site to see what other people thought but it's down or something, so bear with me here. :-) Well, there's that swan that shows up a couple of times...anyone know what swans symbolize? The ocean: I always thought this symbolized menstruation, or the flow of time. The leaves: autumn, transition, death. Tori flipping upside down: her world being turned upside down. The ghost people: people around her that don't seem to matter anymore. The pressure guage: anyone want to interpret that? Oil refinery: being an island, being alone. Hot air balloon: floating away, from problems and people and the such. The little girl reminds me of the one in the Hey Jupiter video. And then there's the old lady: being afraid of dying alone. Tori pulling, then pushing, and then not caring about the chair: wanting something but not speaking up about it, then pushing the subject further, and then leaving it be. The walls burning: the walls she constructed around her feelings are falling down. The transition from fall to winter and then the graveyard: winter, death, endings; graveyard: death, endings. Whew! Ok, since we're on the subjects of video interpretations, anyone have anything about the video for Spark? It's one of my favorite songs but I don't understand what the song has to do with the video. For example, what's up with the blond chick and the guy in the car at the end? >PS- how come Tori never made a video for Concertina? Or Professional Widow for that matter...ooo, that could have been a kick ass video. :-) - -- liquid pie ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 15:36:16 EDT From: LynnGarret@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori's videos In a message dated 7/22/00 11:37:38 PM Eastern Daylight Time, danny.weddup@talk21.com writes: << I really like Tori's videos, don't get me wrong. Two of the most memorable dreams I've had occurred when I was in need of wisdom and she came and gave me advice. I woke up completely changed. Another one I can remember was with me watching some Tori documentary of some kind. It had some live shots of her on stage, and she was singing some hauntingly beautiful music that I'd never heard before, but somehow I knew they were songs she had written. Pretty cool, huh? LIke the >god single that was release in the uk but nt here. That's an -extremely- tall order. I'm a collector, too, and -so far- I have well over 100 CDs, 20 vinyls, several tapes, and countless books, magazines, posters, and other items. The first thing you should do is pick up a copy of _Tori Amos Collectibles_ by Paul Campbell. It was released in 1997, so it's (obviously!) missing the RAINN promos from that year, as well as FtCH and TVaB items. For 1997 and earlier, though, it is excellent, and it is -the- reference for Tori collectors. It has full-color pictures of every item listed in there, as well as notes about rarity. It does not talk about value, since (as the author notes) anything he wrote down for value would be out-of-date by the time the book was published, let alone for any point in the future. If you buy the book new, it will cost $30. Amazon has it, as does Barnes and Noble. You can occasionally find a used copy on eBay for less. For more recent releases, you want to check out the Collecting Tori website at: http://zip.to/tori That site, run by Lianne, houses the rmta Price Guide, which is a great reference if you're looking to purchase older items and want to know what to pay for 'em. Lianne updates the Price Guide regularly, so you can pretty well depend on it for the information it contains. If you're really just looking to hear all the songs that Tori has released, your best bet might be to head to the Tori-boot mailing list and ask there if someone will make you a compilation of bee-sides and rarities. It'll certainly be cheaper, since several early singles fetch $75 and up. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2000 13:59:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Wntrgrl Subject: Tori singles There's a book called "Tori Amos Collectibles", I bought it at Tower Records a while back. It's $30.00 but worth it. It lists just about everything that Tori did. It goes from before Y Kant Tori Read up to Boys for Pele. It lists every single, all the promo stuff, bootlegs, tours, fan clubs/fanzines, books, magazine/TV appearances, collaborations, and guest works. Plus it's even got a timeline. Like I said, it's well worth buying. Especially for someone looking to collect Tori stuff. Though a lot of the earlier stuff is extremely hard to find. Here's a list of some singles with their release dates: Baltimore(1980) , The Big Picture(1988), Cool On Your Island(1988), Me and a Gun(1991), Silent All These Years(1991),China(1992), Winter(1992), Crucify(1992), Cornflake Girl(1994), God(1994), Pretty Good Year(1994), Past the Mission(1994), Caught a Lite Sneeze(1996), Talula(1996), Professional Widow(1996), Hey Jupiter(1996), In the Springtime of His Voodoo(1996), Jackies Strength, Spark, Jackies Strength/Father Lucifer, Raspberry Swirl/Cruel, Bliss, Concertina, 1000 Oceans. If I'm correct, that's all of the singles. But many of them had more than one. Like for instance: Silent All These Years came out with a single in the UK,US,Germany,Australia, and Japan. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo!
