Thanks i hadn't heard this before and, based on lianne's discrography , i was about to say something along the lines of "i don't think so", but then thought i should go check our copies of the single (yes, for some reason, we have two). guess what? there are two versions and we, apaprently, have both. one disc has a black bee and gold text while the other has a gold bee and black text. this leads me to think that there was a mix-up when they were screening the cd artwork. i've no idea which would be the intended color scheme, but i'd wager that the black text/gold bee combo was since the gold text is very difficult to read. how did i miss this? woj ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Jul 2000 05:57:23 EDT From: MysTeRiLady2000@aol.com Subject: Two Bee... Hi Jeremy & EWF, Yes, there are 2 diff PGY part 2's & two bee's and one part one. Part one is a digi with Pretty Good Year, Daisy Dead Petals & Home On The Range (Cherokee ed). EW # A7263CDX. The CD itself has a ribbon of what looks to me like paint dribbled around it... but it's supposed to be honey. The words to Honey are printed on the center panel of the digipak - even though part 1 doesn't have Honey on it. BUT - it ties in with Part 2. Part 2 comes in a gold bee with black print or a black bee with gold print. Both part 2's contain the same three songs - Pretty Good Year, Honey & Black Swan. Both part 2's carry the same EW # A7263CD. As to whether one is more valuable, I don't know. All this info can be found of page 41 of TAC. I can't stress enough how important it is a serious Tori collector get a Tori Amos Collectibles book. Frequently you can get a used one on eBay for 10 - 15 + S&H. If a brand new, perfect copy is what you seek I know a reputable book seller who sells them for 15 + 3.20 priority mail. Either way it beats Amazon online or your local bookstore where you will pay from 22.95 to its msr of 29.95. I have 2 TAC's. One is in a sealed baggie like my other Tori books and one I write in. It's been awhile since I posted on eBay haps so I'll say a few words. A Precious Things CD went for 227.50 this week. The good seller also threw in a signed single and a pic of Tori signing it. A portion of the sale went to RAINN. A picked up a some goodies including a signed LE Songbook to add to my signed LE collection, a LE promo book and 2 Silent All These Years 45's - one first pressing, one second. I also was big time jazzed in picking up a 92 Silent All These Years cassette tape for a buck. OK, I'll close with a comment - I've noticed a particular trend on eBay for a while now. Suddenly an item is hot news and people go way over board bidding. Case in point is the recent Bob Masse posters. Weeks, months before they were hardly selling at 15 bucks. Suddenly people are bidding like crazy & paying more than 40 for one. Hell, I paid 45.00 total for all three of mine and one was framed with custom matting and glass. A second example is the Past The Mission CD's. The mob mentality seems to be to bid like wildfire. Why? Maybe people are convinced its the very last one available. Hold off on that I say. Wait until the fervor has passed and get the goods for a reasonable price. Rarely is anything the very last. Look at how Tea With The Waitress was going for a hundred or so and now copies can be scooped up for around 35.00. The same will happen with Tori Stories, Precious Things, PTM ... etc. Toodles ~ MysT "I think I'm lucky to have skated through under the guise of pop musician. I'm really a classical musician." As we have discussed in the past, the Amsco sheet music of Tori's work is far from complete. Occasionally we the consumer are gifted with songs that are faithfully transcribed (Bliss is a terrific example of this, as are Horses, Datura, Butterfly), but too often we are cheated out of spectacular solos and intricate melodic patterns. The most glaring examples of this are songs like Cornflake Girl (there are two completed versions on the net) and Concertina; songs that are both wholly complex and contain Tori's trademark solo work. To a lesser extent songs like Crucify, Playboy Mommy, Caught A Light Sneeze, and Leather are all imcomplete. In fact, in almost every song there are points when the transcription errs on the side of melodic accompaniment to the vocal rather than what Tori is actually playing. For over a year now i have been tolerating this, since i mainly buy sheet music for use with guitar. However, this summer i am endeavoring to learn some Tori on piano, and now i am seriously peeved. My first choice to play was Concertina, and i spent two weeks learning how to play the intricate verse pattern which is accurately presented on the first page of the music. Much to my dismay, today i found that the pre-chorus is totally devoid of anything resembling what Tori is playing, as is much of the chorus. Needless to say, i am PISSED. However, utilizing solo recordings of the song, musical training, and some common sense i am having a bit of luck in putting together what the book left out. The books are usually incorrect in one of two situations, and sometimes both: 1) Where Tori's playing is incredibly intricate so is reduced to more chordal/vocal patterns (Concertina) 2) Where Tori's playing is minimal the vocal is added (usually to the right hand) and continues far into more key portions of the song (Crucify) (in both cases the sheet music is reduced to a more recital friendly version where the listener can tell where in the song the pianist is) In some songs this isn't such a problem: Tear In Your Hand is a good transcription despite vocals often being incorporated into Tori's playing. Many people have sought to fill in the spots where the sheet music books have failed us. Right now the best and easiest to use resources on the internet are http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Towers/8482/ and http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/6277/cath.html , and i invite you to use them both. Another great resource is http://pianofae.future.easyspace.com/ . However, there are still plenty of spots that are left undone! What i would sincerely like to do is to compile a list of all the gross inadequacies in the Tori books, and then to centralize on the internet a resource for filling in the gaps. I know for a fact a lot of you own at least one of the books and many of you know music well enough to tell what is and isn't transcribed well. If everyone would take a few moments this month to sit down and *read along* with the album and then write me with what they feel is missing (overall or in specific), then i could post the list onto my page and some of our more talented musicians could take a stab at fixing the errors. Errors usually consist of gross omissions (the solo in leather), generalized transcription ("looking for a saviour"), and the addition of extra melody where it isn't needed. In a case such a Crucify where Tori doesn't play much of anything at points, i would like to note what to exclude from the sheet music and to possibly suggest what could be played based on solo versions of the song. Please note that i am not interested in providing the content of the sheet music books for free, i just want to create a resource for those who actually intended to buy the complete works of Tori Amos. I posted a summary of my purpose and of some corrections to http://freespeech.org/krisis/tori/ . I invite anyone with the piano books (or just a good ear) to email me with ways to get around horrid transcriptions or with corrections they have made.
