ToriCon is the annual gathering of EWF held by the folks over in rec.music.tori-amos. This is the fourth gathering, and will be held in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, during the first weekend in August. Hope to see y'all there! :) - -*- begin FAQ -*- ************************************************************************** ToriCon 2000 Frequently Asked Questions *************************************************************************** Contents: 1. what is ToriCon? 2. what will we do at ToriCon? 3. how much will it cost me and what do i get? 4. what about hotel costs and information? 5. how do i register for ToriCon? 6. what about forms? i LOVE forms! 7. what rules are there for behaviour at ToriCon? 8. i can't attend, so how can i get the ToriCon '99 shirt? **************************************************************************** 1. what is ToriCon? ToriCon is an annual event put together for rec.music.tori-amos and any other toriphiles who wish to attend. it's basically a chance for us to get together in person and giggle a lot, and all toriphiles and their friends and lovers are welcome to attend. ToriCon 2000 will take place in raleigh-durham, north carolina the weekend of august 4-6, and proceeds will go to RAINN, the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network. last year we raised more than $3800 for RAINN through registration, t-shirt sales, and an online auction, and we hope to do as well, if not better, this year. if you are a victim of rape, abuse, or incest, you can call RAINN for counselling toll free at 1-800-656-HOPE. all information about ToriCon 2000 will be posted to rec.music.tori-amos under the -G- header and also sent to people who have signed up for the mailing list. the mailing list doesn't get any extra or privileged information, but is good for those who either have problem newsfeeds or can't/don't keep up with rmta. mail aimee@rmta.org if you have any questions or if you'd like to be added to or dropped from the mailing list. a current copy of the FAQ can always be had by sending mail to toricon-info@rmta.org or by checking out www.rmta.org/rmt-a/toricon00.html 2. what will we do at ToriCon? we have plans for a banquet and dance saturday night, and that's really the main scheduled activity. this year we will be having the banquet and dance in the hotel, and will be having a buffet including: fruit, cheese, grilled vegetables, and antipasto as appetizers; a selection of pastas and sauces for individuals to combine to their own taste as entrees; and tiramisu, chocolate cup, and chocolate mousse for dessert. we will have space available in the hotel for people to meet and hang out at all times during the weekend. we plan to have a stereo and VCR available there, so watch out for showings of tori concerts, videos, and other good stuff. we'll have a raleigh-durham guide for attendees which will recommend nearby activities, restaurants, etc. in short, we'll keep you busy. if the last four cons are any indication, you'll get about 4 hours of sleep the entire weekend. :) if you have any suggestions or ideas for activities, mail angela@rmta.org or start a discussion about it in rmta. chances are many of our activities will be spontaneous throughout the weekend. 3. how much will it cost me and what do i get? the registration fee this year is $70. for those 21 or over, you may add $10 to your fee if you wish to partake of alcoholic goodies at the con. here's what you get for your fee: - - ToriCon 2000 t-shirt - - ToriCon 2000 ID badge - - the ToriCondom - - a guide to stuff in raleigh-durham - - dinner at saturday's banquet and dance - - admittance to our hospitality suite - - group higs - - other assorted goodies yet to be determined - - the chance to meet the lovely and talented organizers of this fine event 4. what about hotel costs and information? we will be staying at the marriott in durham. there's lots of shopping nearby, and there is a hotel van that will take people in a 4 miles square. minifridges are available at a nominal fee of $5 a day, and you may arrange for this upon check-in. they don't have a pool, so instead they offer complimentary passes to the YMCA across the street. this should offer us exciting new opportunities in frightening locals! they do have a small exercise room and a business center equipped with computers, printer, fax. we've arranged to have our rates available for the wednesday and thursday nights before the con and the sunday night after. the organizers will be making the reservations in order to get these rates, and we do have a room quota to fill, so please don't call the hotel directly to make reservations. to make reservations through us, see section 6 of this FAQ. hotel payments will be made directly to the hotel by you: the front desk will want either a major credit card number or a cash deposit upon check-in. room rates are $79 a night plus tax. parking at the hotel is free for up to two cars per room. there is an airport shuttle which costs $34 round trip, so if you're flying we recommend seeing if an attendee with a vehicle will ferry you to and from the airport. you can use the following chart to figure cost per person for ToriCon 2000, hotel taxes are included: - -------------------------- # persons/room per night - -------------------------- 1 $87.69 2 $43.85 3 $29.23 4 $21.92 - -------------------------- 5. how do i register for ToriCon? here are our requirements and deadlines, all forms are to be found in section 6 of this FAQ. as deadlines come up, warnings will be posted on rmta and to the mailing list. _june 16, 2000_ aimee must have received your completed registration form by email by this date. if you send in your registration form late, we cannot guarantee that we can accept your registration. _june 23, 2000_ aimee must have received a room reservation form from someone in your group by email. assign one person in your room to send it in to aimee@rmta.org; if she doesn't receive it we can't guarantee your reservation at con rates. _june 23, 2000_ aimee must have received your registration fee of US$70 (US$80 if you are 21 or over and choose to partake of alcohol) by snail mail or by paypal.com. to pay through paypal, you'll need to register yourself at https://secure.paypal.com, and send payment to aimee lortskell. if you pay by snail mail, send your check or money order in US$ made out to ToriCon. we recommend that US residents mail this by june 16 to make sure it gets here on time. for those outside the US, we recommend sending it by june 9. please, use a security envelope for your payment and DO NOT send cash through the mail. send your payment to: ToriCon '00 P.O. Box 430121 St Louis, Mo 63143 6. what about forms? i LOVE forms! well, then enjoy! finding roommates: we recommend finding roommates on rmta, and you are also welcome to bring along your own friends/lovers/relatives. we recommend either emailing people you'd like to room with or posting under the -G- header requesting a space in someone's room or offering any extra space in yours. if you need help finding roommates, please fill out the following form ASAP and send it to aimee@rmta.org. i will be helping people find roommates right up to our deadlines, but the sooner you send this in the sooner you'll have roomies and be able to send in the completed registration form. - ---cut here---------------------------------------------------------- ToriCon '00 roommate request form - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- legal name: email address: number of roomies desired: smoking preference (if any): gender preference in roomies (if any): nights you intend to stay (wed/thu/fri/sat/sun): other roomie requirements: - ---cut here----------------------------------------------------------- registration: you must return the following form to aimee@rmta.org by june 16 in order to be registered, and each attendee must send in a separate form. if you attended a previous con, you can leave most of part 1 blank except for your full name and any information in that section which has changed since last time. you must also be listed on a room reservation form if you want the special con rates; see information about that below this form. - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------ ToriCon '00 registration form - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- part 1 basic information - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- your full legal name: screen name (if different): date of birth: street address: city, state/country, postal code: phone number including area code: e-mail address: name of emergency contact: phone number: any allergies or random medical stuff we should know about, including dietary restrictions: - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- part 2 con goodies - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- size t-shirt (S-XXL): name you would prefer on your ID badge: - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------- room reservation forms: AFTER you have arranged for any roommates you want, have someone in your room fill this in and send it to aimee@rmta.org by june 23. NOTE: we will not be playing musical rooms this year, because it was way too complicated last time. we recommend that you either get together with roomies who are staying the same nights as you are, or that you make separate arrangments to switch to a different room on an extra night. for instance, if bramble and nymsa are rooming together friday and saturday, but nymsa wants to stay sunday night also, nymsa can make private arrangements to bunk in someone else's room sunday night and pay them cash for her share of the room. however, nymsa should still be listed with bramble on the room reservation form. if anyone needs help finding people to stay with on an extra night, mail aimee@rmta.org for assistance. note for underage attendees: your parents or guardians are welcome to tag along, as maggie's parents did at the first con. if they fill in the room reservation form by june 23, we can offer them the same hotel rates as attendees. if your parents wish for aimee to act as your guardian during the con, please mail me at aimee@rmta.org. - ---cut here------------------------------------------------------------- ToriCon '00 room reservation form - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ king bed or 2 queens: smoking room?: nights staying (wed/thu/fri/sat/sun/mon): legal names of occupants: - ---cut here-------------------------------------------------------------- 7. what rules are there for behaviour at ToriCon? same as the last four years, and here they are again, for your edification: any sexual behaviour at ToriCon is to take place privately, in your private room and only in the presence of people who wish to participate or watch. you have the right to kick people out of your room if you don't wish them to watch or participate, but keep in mind that this might not be applicable if they are your roommate and wish to sleep, etc. any disputes will be handled by angela and myself, and if necessary by hotel security. these rules also apply to the use of illegal drugs (or underage use of alcohol). all of these things are your business and your decision, but they must not be done publicly or in the presence of those who object. also, please note that angela and i will not take responsibility for any lawbreaking you may do at ToriCon, it is up to you to deal with the consequences of your own actions. we have our own lawbreaking to do. ;) there should be no pressure on ANY attendee of ToriCon to do anything they don't want to, be it sexual or otherwise, regardless of their reason for abstaining. again, angela and i will be enforcing this. you know we can kick your sorry ass, so don't even think about it. if there are any problems of this (or any) nature, attendees should immediately report to angela and/or i. remember, if you don't let us know there's a problem, we don't have a chance to fix it. 8. i can't attend, so how can i get the ToriCon '00 shirt? first, you suck for not attending. second, anyone can order a ToriCon '00 t-shirt to pretend they don't suck! :) proceeds will go to RAINN, and you can order shirts by sending a check or money order for $20 per shirt (US$25 per shirt if you need the shirt mailed outside the US) made out to ToriCon along with your name, email, snail mail address, which shirt you're ordering, and size to: ToriCon '00 P.O. Box 430121 St Louis, Mo 63143 your payment must be made out to ToriCon and we must receive it by _june 23, 2000_, or your order may be rejected. we recommend that people within the US send their order by june 16, and those outside by june 9. please use a security envelope and DO NOT send cash through the mail. also still available is the rmta shirt, proceeds from which also benefit RAINN. for ordering information and to see the design, check out http://www.rmta.org/shirts.html. *************************************************************************** - -*- end FAQ -*- HTH. :) /nad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 21:59:34 EDT From: FireflyLG@aol.com Subject: Spark lyrics Hey ev'rybody! (Was Erinita@aol.com) And I can't seem to remember where to find the mailing that goes out from Tori's "official" website. I tried ToriAmos.com and couldn't find anything regarding any newsletters of sorts, but perhaps I wasn't looking in the right place. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks! In my English class we had to pick a poem for close study and interp. And then we were suppose to pick a song or a piece of art that kind of goes with the mood of the poem or the meaning. So I was going to ask if you guys have any ideas of a Tori song that I should use. The poem has kind of a haunting/sad/dark tone, to me anyway, and I was thinking of maybe using Bliss or even Carnival, because those songs have kinding of haunting music and such. I will type the poem below, and any ideas at all, I will be most grateful!!! THE SILENT CROWD by Steven Spender moving through the silent crowd who stand behind dull cigarettes these men who idle in the road, I have the sense of falling light. they lounge at corners of the street and greet friends with a shrug of shoulder and turn their empty pockets out, the cynical gestures of the poor. now they've no work, like better men who sit at desks and take much pay they sleep long nights and rise at ten to watch the hours that drain away. i'm jealous of the weeping hours they stare through with such hungry eyes. i'm haunted by these images, i'm haunted by their emptiness. if anyone has any ideas, please please please e-mail me or you can even IM on aol instant message, my screen name is VAstud82 . Thanks in advance :) Terry. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #113 *************************************
