Actually, in the eyes of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, the RIAA (and the record labels), ANY distribution in any form of ANY unauthorized live recording is illegal. That include copying for no profit (there's another act as well that handles this). In practice, the RIAA stays away from small-time non-profit trading of LIVE material as it's really not cost effective for them to prosecute. However, MOST traders in other groups frown on ANY form of monetary exchange, including 2:1 and the so-called "flat fee" which arose in the Tori community. We're still around trading tapes (CDs, whatever) by the grace of Tori's management. They know of these forums, and I'm pretty sure they do monitor them. BUT, putting together a collection of studio tracks (as Nadyne commented) is a REAL quick way to get one's self in a lot of trouble. I wasn't suggesting a full blown tree, but something similar to it between the people of the "limited" audience that would want it. Just because one or two people do not want it, does not mean the next 2-3 wouldn't as well. If they use the flat fee system, it's cool in the trading community, and as far as illegality is concerned, HELLO? forgive me for being confused but i thought this was a BOOTLEG list. *steps off soapbox with the statement that she will help those who need it to get started* ~~~Katz >On Mon, 8 May 2000, sweet alyssum wrote: > > > whoever thought of this first please privately email me, i think it's a > > great idea. the boxed set could be set up as a "trading tree". for the >rest >*snip* > >Beyond the complete illegality of this idea, I think it needs to be >pointed out just how time consuming setting up a "trading tree" is. Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network - - For those that the above link won't work the addy is: http://www.rainn.org/ Get in touch with RAINN & someone will tell you where you can go in your area to get pamphlets. Remember everyone - In 1996 (the year Our FaeriE Qween was doing the Dew Drop Inn tour) 307, 000 women were victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault. Your local RAINN affiliated rape crisis center could use your volunteer time. (I volunteer, and - yes it's not glamorous - we stuff a lot of envelopes, lol! And No, Tori hasn't "stopped in" but its very fulfilling, I love the people I work with and it's giving back to an amazing organization - Consider volunteering yourself). ALSO you can support RAINN by buying RAINN Gear online! RAINN/Calvin Klein T-shirts are $25.00 (similar to the one Tori wears in the RAINN poster only white) and RAINN keychains are $5.00. You can also support RAINN by making an online donation of ANY AMOUNT. Visit the RAINN website, its very worthwhile :-) Toodles ~ *~ MysT ~* *** Also fellow Tori auctioneers (like myself) consider giving some of your profits to RAINN. I think Tori would be so proud. :::soft smile::: ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 May 2000 17:32:36 EDT From: Mac456789@aol.com Subject: Re: napster(wasCARNIVAL) Hello...
