Today came the news from Tori's own people that Tori did not write "Carnival" Awww :-( The lovely, magical song so many of us have listened to now a gazzzzzilllion times and love, Love, LOVE! "...Will true love come my way on this magical day?..." Here's the direct quote: (For those who didn't already know) "With the release of the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack on May 9, Tori fans will be able to get their hands on a brand new track entitled, "Carnival" (a.k.a. "Manha de Carnaval"). The track is a version of a classic Latin song and is given an individual spin by Tori." OK... SO... NOW we gotta get a recording of the original so we can see how Tori made it her own. I think this is going to join my other fave cover "Thank You" as Z best. I'm excited to see where "Carnival" is placed in MI-2. 'Course I love Tom Cruise too (Not even close to how I love The Faerie Qween) so hot-damn MI-2 kicks @ss already! I'm whooooping it up over here... hehehe :-) OK, I'm calm now. I checked the Dent Forum again, and there are now people who say that Matt Chamberlain also mentioned Tori being 5 months pregnant backstage at a Fiona Apple concert. So I guess there a couple of different sources who are saying Tori is pregnant, but it's worth keeping in mind that no official statement has been released. If it's true, I think it's fantastic! As far as I know, there is no other info to confirm or deny this, so this person's word is all there is to base Tori preganancy rumors on right now. I guess we'll find out if it's true in four months :) Alex On Mon, 1 May 2000, shoes wrote: > > > tori's a mommy to be? > is she really? the person that posted 5months.. i'm just curious where > you got that info? wow.... i'm so happy for her! i'd love to know if > anyone has more info on this.. as i'm sure we all would.. > xo, > chris > > > > > > > > ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 22:07:14 -0400 From: fartachu Subject: Re: posters and the new song when we last left our heroes, CanVanZ@aol.com exclaimed: >P.S. - Did you guys know that 'Carnival' is not Tori's song? It's a cover >of this pretty old song. I didn't think they really sounded like her lyrics... yup. most of the details can be found at the dent's carnival page . the basic gist is that the song "manha de carnaval" ("carnival morning") was written by brazilian luiz bonifa in 1959 for the marcel camus' film "black orpheus" . since then, it has been recorded by several people (joan baez, dexter gordon, and sandy bull to name a few) and in several languages (portuguese, spanish and english). tori's cover appears to be new english lyrics set to the tune of the original. to my eye, the new lyrics do not appear to be a translation as much as inspired by the feeling of the original. as such, i would hazard a guess that they are tori's words. some other renditions of the song can be found in mp3 format at . woj p.s for what it's worth, i'm not as thrilled by tori's rendition of the song as everyone else seems to be. i mean, it's alright...but it doesn't really grab me. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 17:24:52 +0100 From: "Danny.Weddup" Subject: Re: Stars in Their Eyes Hi everyone Countess Jim wrote: > I don't know if anyone else saw this, but there was someone on "Stars in Their Eyes" last night doing Tori Amos. I don't know if you have this programme outwith Britain, so I'll explain. Five people from around the country come and impersonate someone....< This makes me so annoyed! I used to watch stars in their eyes every week, in the hope that one of the contestants would 'do' someone I like, but in the end I gave up. All the singers they do are usually really mainstream (like for example Olivia Newton John, who seemed to be on every bloody week.) But of course, FINALLY someone did Tori and I missed it! My friend saw it though, and he thought the girl who was Tori was really good, except he said she didn't look much like her. Oh well. Maybe Tori's appearance will open the floodgates for a slew of un-commercial acts, and we'll have Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson on....;o) Bye, Danny PS- Anyone ever hear any feedback on Tori as a guest on the simpsons? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 17:24:15 -0400 From: "Lynne Toussaint" Subject: Re: posters and the new song I have a GENUINE copy of this poster, and it is NOT glossy. I was not aware there were glossy ones being handed out. There might be... but I haven't seen one. The poster I have is not on flimsy paper, but it's not heavy either. The manager of the record store I practically live in saved it and a lithograph for me when the album came out, so I know it's real. I got it the day after Venus was released. peace christina - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Monday, May 01, 2000 8:03 PM Subject: posters and the new song > > Hey guys, I need your help. It's really flimsy paper, thin, a border that has pin-holes in a paper layed under the poster while it's PHOTOCOPIED. This is poster is obviously a photocopy, and I was wondering if anyone out there has the GOOD and REAL copy of this poster. I think it's tinted purple and made of legitimate glossy-type poster paper. When she was in Tulsa, I was able to hang out with some of her crew (they said i got to the hotel bar just 15 minutes after she left to go to her room =( ) .. let's see, that was in 98.. and they told me that she had been trying to get pregnant, and they were going to try again after the tour was complete. i have been hoping she would get pregnant, because I would love to see how she raises her child, how she parents, because one of these days i'll be starting a family of my own.. and i would love to see how she gives her child spirit.. What would she name it? What if it's a boy? Not that she doesn't love men, but how will she explain Boys For Pele? hehehehe I sure do love Tori. God, I wish I was her sister or something. The song is indeed a cover, but the new English lyrics were likely written by Tori and the song was given a new ending by Tori, a faster tribal kind of feel. So the song is really a hybrid. It is not a straight forward cover. That is what "individual spin" above means. Tori did inject her own flavor into it.
