The soaps are darling, the turn-around was very fast, and the profits go to RAINN. How could you ask for anything better?! THe webpage is http://fly.to/stringbeanlove (I think Red already posted this to the list, which is how I probably found out about it, but I want to recommend this to everyone). love, sonya =Thank you for your squirrel= http://home.collegeclub.com/sharway/toriboot.html ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 11:11:11 -0000 From: "Pete Lambert" Subject: RE: live songs > From: "a." > my question is, what other songs > has tori redone for playing live? and dates or at least tours would be > helpful... > > thanks, > > a. > Hi "a" At the one-off London show last year she did an amazing piano version of Juarez - during the verses she leaned right over so the top half of her body was actually IN the piano and slapped out the rhytm on the strings, pulling back to play the piano on the choruses. Stunnin'. Oh and I once heard REALLY low quality clips of her doing "Fire On The Side" and "Cool On Your Island" on the harmonium, during the Dew Drop Inn BPF tour... Hi Ellen, On my website I have a bunch of books that Tori has been referenced, been inspired by, etc and have never seen this one..although it does sound very Tori. I'll keep my eyes open in the future when digging around for other books tori has mentioned. Sorry this doesn't help much though! ;) For other Tori book inspirations check out my website, a musical butterfly. http://musicalbutterfly.tripod.com/ hope this helped a bit, Holly http://fly.to/musicalbutterfly >From: Ellen Morris >Reply-To: Ellen Morris >To: precious-things@smoe.org >Subject: BLACK SWANN??? >Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 20:26:24 -0500 (EST) > > > >hi all, > >i just saw a book at borders today entitled THE BLACK SWAN >it was written by (male name like Tom, something sort, i dont remember) >MANN. does anyone know this book. i read what is was about and it seemed >very tori to me. its a novella about dealing with issues of the spiritual >versus the sexual nature of women, it was listed under women's studies. > >just throwing that out to you all. i know that tori has been inspired by >literature before, and was just curious to know if anyone knew of any >connections here. > >thanks, >ellen > > _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ >|~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~| > >Beauty endures only _______ >for as long as it ((_______)) >can be seen; | | | | >goodness, beautiful today | | | | >will remain so | | | | >tomorrow | | | | >-sappho | | > > _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ >|_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~| > ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 16:34:42 CST From: "Gate Keeper" Subject: Tori VS. Alanis paper Hi everyone!!! for my high school english class I have to do a compare & contrast paper. It has to be 4-6 typed pages. I have decided to compare & contrast Tori and Alanis. So far, these will be the main points of the paper: Similarities: (1) Both are predominant women in the music business. -Tori writes and produces her own albums -Alanis writes most of her own material and produces her albums -Tori has her own record label -Alanis is part owner of Mp3 stock *(I need more info on this if could help) (2) Both have reached multi-platinum sales. -Alanis sold 30 million some copies of her just her first album *(is this figure correct) -Tori's albums have gone platinum-her latest album had the highest debut in the world in Australia (I think that's it) (3) Both have extremely loyal fans -fans of both follow them all over when they are on tour-they buy all of their albums, singles, merchandise, etc. (4) Both had previous album(s) before they became famous. -Tori's very first album was Y Kant Tori Read which was released in 1988-it was considered to be a failure -Alanis had a couple of hit albums in Canada before becoming world wide famous with Jagged Little Pill *(does someone have the names of these albums) Differences: (1) Alanis is more of a mainstream artist. -she gets a lot of radio airplay -more well-known than Tori Tori is more of an "underground" artist. -in some places she hardly gets any radio play at all, if any -not as well known (2) Tori has been in the music business longer than Alanis. -first started out in the late 80's -has maybe a little more experience -has toured a lot more Alanis is younger and hasn't been in the business as long -started in the early 90's (is this correct) -hasn't toured as much (3) The musical styles of both are much different -Tori's main instrument is the piano -her music can sound like classical music with a twist and sometimes industrial- she has only worked with a full backing band for a couple of years -Alanis is more pop/rock-maybe a little folk- a lot of guitar She has been working with a band for her whole career (I'm not sure about when she was big in Canada) So far, that is all I have. I would REALLY appreciate any comments and stuff. If anyone could help buy supply some more information on Alanis previous albums and her career I would be very thankful. Or if anyone has any good sites that could help. Or if anybody has any other things to add, any other differences or similarities or both I could really use them. Thanks a bunch!!!
