If there isnt, which Im assuming there isnt, I was wondering if there were any of you out there in the Atlanta (or Athens ) Area who would like to start up a group where we could also meet "every once in a while for Torifests, movies and other activities". If anyone is interested please email me (the 0 in my email address is a ZERO, not an O); I think it this could be something really fun for all of us (Those in Atlanta anyway). I look forward to hearing from all of y'all! ~~maria ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 08:47:50 EST From: "Dawn Goodman" Subject: Re: Grammies deny Tori. once again. >>...but putting a relatively underground (which I say very loosely) singer >>like Tori against the fashon-model-turned-idols of today like the >>Backstreet Boys, and Britney spears, is like comparing Tolkien with >>Shakespear, in a sense....Most of Tori's fans listen to her music because >>it's touched them in some special way. I don't think we should get too upset over Tori not being nominated because she CANNOT be compared to the competition. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 21:44:40 -0600 From: "maybe some faith would do me good" Subject: Way back when... Seeing as I only heard of tori when under the pink was released, specifically God, I was wondering: How was tori received when she covered Smells Like Teen Spirit way back on the Crucify EP? I mean, I know it's considered bad manners to cover a popular song early in your career. Alana Davis was unfairly banished for singing Ani Difranco's 32 flavours (alana did a better job :) and Faith Hill covered Janis Joplin's "Take Another Little Piece of my Heart". So was tori criticized? Or seeing as it was a b-side was it okay? just curious. 'cause i love her version so much... anthony :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 21:54:35 EST From: Prntr66051@aol.com Subject: tori sighting (sort of) Well I was at Borders tonight buying books and Tori singles when to my delight I spot the following. You know how around all the cds they have their little "picks" that you can listen to? Well featured under the catagory "In A Distinctive Voice" was LE and the following text The raw beauty of Tori Amos' debut album has remained unchallenged since 1992. Her delicous piano rock sound is counterpointed by passionate and sometimes scathing lyrics. Try Precious Things (#4), Mother (#9) and Me and A Gun (#11). I've never seen this book but it does sound like a possiblity. I have compliled a large list at my site _a musical butterfly: my tribute to Tori Amos_ (http://musicalbutterfly.tripod.com) so check it out Joshua. Reinventing Eve isn't there but about 150 other books are. If anyone has any comments or suggestions on it--email me.
