This months issue of Spin magazine has rock memorabilia through out the magazine (it's the 15 year anniversary addition) and it has a real awesome picture of Tori's Bosie and a cute little quote from her. Subject: matt and itty ppv question i saw matt friday night in boston! he's touring with fiona...and it's a damn good...1)he's so amazingly good and 2)i spent most of the show when fiona was at the piano watching him (they kind of fucked up the stage set and the piano was at the far far left and once she sat down it was just impossible to see anything unless you were in the front frow but matt was dead smack center)... this show was indeed good...but, it made me realize just how good tori is at what she does...i mean, tori's at a piano or keyboard or other for the entire show and she can make it so entertaining...and amazing... now my question...in the ppv special between tori and alanis they play the smallest snippet of a song...does anyone know what that song is? thanks... a. That's "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt" by DJ Shadow. It's off of his album "Entroducing..." Alanis used it to open most of her shows on the Junkie Tour '99. You can hear some guy's voice on the track, "...I'm also a teacher of the drums...hahahah" or something like that. His album is great (a bit long but great). The way the band takes it into Baba is also wonderful. My computer won't let me play MP3's from any of the main Tori sites, which is really pissing me off! I'd really really appreciate it, especially Butterfly. I read the lyrics, and adore them! It reminds me of Sylvia Plath, especially her poem "Lesbos"... maybe it's just the 'kittens in cement' thing. I don't know... but I'd truly appreciate it imensely! We just got done reading it for my feminist persuasions class, and it is absolutley one of the most amazing books I have ever read ever. It focuses on finding a primary female creator-type figure, and going back to the roots of life witht he primordial connection of life and the goddess(es). It is really eye-opening, and in the end she completely retells the story of Eve and the garden of Eden, using Gnostic ideas and other myths/legends from cultures to reshape the identity of women. Anyways, there are a lot of common ideas between this book and tori that I found, so I was wondering if anyone knew if tori has read it? or any Chernin, for that matter. She has published quite a few books on eating disorders as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. When i first listened to TVAB, i thought there was a (musical) striking resemblence (SP??) to madonna's "rain" and some other of her more recent, sexual sounding songs.. i think it's beautiful.. maybe it's a little selfish, but i love it that tori isn't "up there", as "they" would say, with britney and backstreet, because i know that tori's music is too intelligent for that shit. and us, being the true fans, actually "getting something" from her music besides new shitty dance moves, makes me feel great. i know that we are in a group of.. what should we call ourselves.. music elitists??!! and, i love being able to introduce tori to friends who have never heard of her or never really listened to her. and that, to me, is really special. it truly makes me feel like a real friend, because, in a sense, i'm introducing someone to a new and abstract form of therapy.. am i making any sense? sorry, sometimes i ramble.. when talking about tori, it's hard to keep all my thoughts together.. i love tori, micah ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #49 ************************************
