I mean, look at some of the nominees: Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, > The Backstreet Boys??? I don't think Tori is really worried about winning Something that needs to be put into consideration, is that Tori's style of music isn't what's currently mainstream. It's somewhat sad that awards such as the Grammys are more like popularity contests than they should be, but putting a relatively underground (which I say very loosely) singer like Tori against the fashon-model-turned-idols of today like the Backstreet Boys, and Britney spears, is like comparing Tolkien with Shakespear, in a sense. In the January 2000 issue of Spin magazine, there was a Trent Reznor article, where he said, "When I see what's on 'total request live,' it's like, 'who ARE these people? Who's buying this?' Good Christ! How did this happen?" Sadily, it's true. The music industry is now focusing on the beautiful people, whom the consumers deep down would rather have sex with, than listen to. Most of Tori's fans listen to her music because it's touched them in some special way. I've never met anybody who said that they were truely touched by "Livin' la vida loca", or "Babe one more time". I think that knowing that you've had a drastic effect on peoples' lives, is much more gratifying than winning a statue. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V5 #48 ************************************
