First I got the German import of China and Caught A Lite Sneeze. Then I got the UK import of Past the Mission (part 1). I also got one of the orange pic books that I think is from the Boys For Pele era and a poster from the Under The Pink era. And then as another present I got the Tori Amos Collectibles book, but it doesnt really say how much anything is worth. And I am still waiting for the UK imports of God, SIlent All These Years, Crucify, and Cornflake Girl to come. Any help on the worth of these items would be great. DOnt get me wrong, I am not wanting to know this because I plan on selling them or anything, I have worked a hell of a long time to get my collection to the point it is at, I just want to know how valuable some of my possessions are. still making mountains out of mudpies, Terry. Beulah means "married," so there's a play on words here. This verse was written at a time when the Jews are returning to Israel after the Babylonian exile and found the land enmeshed in poverty. This is prophecy of God's promise that in the future the land will be restored to glory. Christians then take the Jewish prophecy and read it to mean the future promise of Christ's return. William Blake also made extensive use of the term "Beulah," but that's more than I care to get into. deadfong ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2000 14:40:05 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: beaulah land Jeremy axed: > Hey all! I found a site that explains it reasonably well, if verbosely. http://www.prca.org/refwitness/1997feb16.html [ . . . ] We shall come before Him who sits upon the throne and we shall rejoice in His full love and shall be filled with delight and happiness. For then the bride shall come to Jesus Christ. The people of God, whom He has elected, shall be fully one in Him. That is the place which is called Beulah Land, the land that is married to God, where God is married in perfect love to His people. [ . . . ] (You really need to read the whole file at that URL to get the idea.) So, it relates to the idea of marriage to God, but also to marriage of one person to another. There's also a hymn. http://tch.simplenet.com/htm/i/ihaveebl.htm At the above URL there's a MIDI file of the melody, the lyrics, and background on its composers. I never heard the full performed version of this song, although I've previously found other info and MIDI files of it online. So, the Tori song Beulah Land seems to me to be a biting satire of a religious nature. How closely it parodies the hymn itself I don't know. As I said, I've only heard MIDI versions of it. That's why we have these lists, though. Someone out there may know more about the hymn or where there may be an online recording of a performance of it. I'd love to compare a performance of the hymn to Tori's song. On its own I think Tori's song is pretty hilarious anyway. I'm kinda rushed right now.
