I was bored a few days ago, so I sat down and decided to make a CD of my favorite Tori songs. And then I got the idea, that I could set up a web page and make Tori mix CDs for people as a sort of business! Generally, around 16-18 songs can fit on a CD, and I have a vast collection of Tori songs, ranging from regular studio editions, to live shows, demos, remixes and more! To give you an idea, here is what I put on my CD: Riot Poof/Hotel/Caught A Lite Sneeze/The Waitress/Purple People/Sugar (Live)/God/iieee/Precious Things (Live)/Professional Widow/Spring Haze/Honey/Bells for Her(Live)/Mr. Zebra (Live)/Cornflake Girl/Never Seen Blue/Glory of the 80's I would charge 5 or 6 dollars per CD, and every CD would come with a printed label that sticks directly on to the CD. E-mail me at VenusOnTheBomb@aol.com (do not e-mail me at the address that I'm sending this e-mail from, please!) if you would be interested in this. If I get enough positive responses, I will put up a webpage and give this a shot. Thanks for your time! After receiving numerous e-mails on this topic, I've decided to make this project a go. I want to do this for fun, and the money is not even an issue to me. If this helps to persuade anyone's interest, great! I'll keep the list updated with the website opening info, etc. Thanks! It sounds like the person singing along with such accompaniment >would be essentially doubling the same melody line on the piano and by >singing it. Sounds goofy to me, although maybe sometimes it works. That's pretty much exactly what it is. It does seem silly, but it can be nice if you're just playing the song solo on the piano with no singing. >How would the piano line as transcribed exactly differ? Aimee has already done a great job describing examples from different pieces. Alot of the songs with little piano to be heard, such as Riot Poof, Suede, Glory of the 80's, just double the melody, with some low piano stuff as well. The result can be kind of strange sometimes, but probably more because Riot Poof just with a piano is odd.. :) Also, in Little Amsterdam, Tori repeats the opening piano figure from the intro over and over again during the verses. She does not play the melody. In the sheet music book, the figure is played in the left hand, and once again they double that melody in the right hand. The result isn't that great, in my opinion. And finally, in Precious Things, Tori plays complicated piano parts that are not the same as the melody. The sheet music books ditch those different piano parts for doubling the melody. On rare occasions, the sheet music will actually be what Tori's playing. For instance, in Bliss. The repeating piano figure she plays in the beginning and repeats throughout the verses. The Venus piano book does not double the melody for the Bliss verses. It writes what Tori actually plays, which is the repeating piano figure. I think the reason the melody is written in the piano parts most of the time is because for the casual Tori fan and piano player, they're going to want that. Just want to sit down and play the melody and some chords. Most sheet music for popular songs is written that way, with the piano part containing the melody even if it doesn't on the recording. It is kind of hard to explain without having you listen to it or musical notation. I hope somewhere in my ramblings, some questions about the sheet music and the different kinds of transcriptions have been answered. Bottom line is, the sheet music books aren't bad, they have some nice arrangements and are good starts. But usually, if you want to have it exactly like Tori, you're going to have play around a bit. :) Happy playing, Kristen ******** The Tori Hotel http://www.geocities.com/apianogrrl or use this url: http://fly.to/torihotel ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! I'm glad you later revised your idea to note that profits would go to RAINN. I'll erase my flame, 'cause I've gotta say that the idea that you were using this to line your own pockets made me see red. However, I still can't say that I think this is really a good idea. The setlist for your first mix CD consisted of nothing that's unavailable on the studio albums. Why should I send six bucks to you to make a copy of all the stuff I already have? And for hard-to-find stuff (like out-of-print bee-sides), why don't I just go over to Tori-boot and ask someone there to make me a copy of for just the cost of the blank CD (a buck), artwork (another buck), and shipping (another buck or two)? /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2000 23:28:55 EST From: UnfunCloud@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori on Conan Every Monday is a repeat on the Conan show.
