So, what does ewf stand for? And... are there any Tori piano books out there? Which ones would you recommend? Thanks! Subject: Tori in US special issue Tori is in the US Collector's Edition magazine entitled 99 Stories of 1999. She's modeling a Miu Miu dress on page 65 and there's also a photo in the index. My god she looks fabulous! I'm breathless! She looks like a witch (I love witches). -Rob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 16:50:31 EST From: Surreal00@aol.com Subject: a dreeeeeeam A couple of nights ago I had a dream. It was really rather silly and didn't make a whole lot of sense, but it was a less bizarre than a lot of my other dreams anyway. So, ok, here it is. It was just after Christmas, and my brother's gift to me was that he would take me to Bull Moose Music (a very cool music store with vinyls and tapes and cds and loads of other treasures) and buy me whatever I wanted in moderation. Sooo, we were all of a sudden there. (you know how in dreams you never really drive the whole way. very useful) In my dream there were bootlegs there but normally there arent. I was looking in the Tori bootleg section and there were all these big cd packages with different styles of production. Some were really really messy and looked rather 3rd grade-ish and some were very surreal and wavy. Anyway, so I was looking through all these cds and I stumbled across this book. It was an old looking brown book that I think was suede-bound, and it was written by Tori! I dont recall the name of it, but inside it had different chapters about discerning Bjork's lyrics. I thought that was kinda funny; Tori writing about trying to figure out other artists (especially bjork's) lyrics. I made my brother buy it for me and then suddenly I was in my English teacher's classroom looking through more bootlegs. Then these scary people in uniforms came into the room and started looking for illegal bootlegs to confiscate. I was panicking so I put this big blue cloth that suddenly appeared in my hands over the Tori section so the evil people in uniforms wouldnt see them and take them away from me. They searched around a little bit and only got ahold of a few Dave Matthews Band bootlegs, which wasnt that bad considering they didnt get any Tori's. I dont remember anymore. Thats all! really good tea. riley ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 07:14:42 -0400 From: Ken Tough Subject: A Case of You: where "Tom xxxxx" had written (I think) asking where Tori's release of "A Case of You" was to be found. I didn't see anyone respond saying that it's also on the UK Ltd Ed Cornflake Girl single, a very lovely and special piece of work. (Other songs include the Hendrix cover "If 6 were 9", with piano distorted into guitar sound, and as discussed recently her cover of Billie Holliday's eerie "Strange Fruit". It's a fine single, and is reasonably expensive, but (new, wrapped) copies still tend to surface in the U.K. for about 25 pounds. - -- Ken Tough Montserrat, West Indies ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 07:21:52 -0400 From: Ken Tough Subject: Elixirs BardMern@aol.com wrote: >There's this place called the Tea Gardens in LA and we get elixirs, >Chinese elixirs from them. That one may include legal ingredients, but the industry in general is responsible for mass killing of reindeer, caribou, black bears, and other animals, esp. in Canada. It's a terrible thing that bears are killed just for their tiny gall bladder, so keep it in mind when you go for the exotic ingredients. For more info search on CITES for example, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. (though the non [yet] endangered species bear the brunt of this trade). Sorry for the lack of Tori content. - -- Ken Tough Montserrat, West Indies ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 19:32:15 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: EWF and Piano Music At 11:46 AM 12/13/99 -0500, Russell Luyt wrote: > >Hi everyone, this is my first post! >So, what does ewf stand for? There are sheet music books out for each of Tori's solo albums (with the sheet music for _To Venus and Back_ due out this month), as well as The Bee-Sides (LE and UtP bee-sides), MTV Unplugged, Anthology, and The Singles. I'd pick out the piano book that has the song(s) you most want to learn, or from your favorite album. If you're looking for a good overview of Tori's songs, Anthology is the way to go. More info on the sheet music books, including what songs are in each of 'em, is available in the Tori Resources FAQ. You can get this FAQ by emailing and asking nicely. I haven't updated it with the info from Singles yet, but hope to do so over the winter break. :) /nad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 18:09:40 -0800 From: sonsi Subject: tvab songbook hi all, i'm mostly a lurker, but just thought i'd share with everyone that i just picked up the tvab songbook. i stopped by the music store on a whim this afternoon while i was out, and they had just put out a display copy. so i grabbed it and have been checking it out for a little while. it includes the live songs (which means there's music for cooling; i haven't seen any music for it before now, but i haven't looked too hard, either), and the music for the studio disc is pretty good. sometimes the songbooks don't have very good transcriptions, but so far they look good. i've only tried playing bliss, concertina and 1000 oceans -- i figured those would be the most amenable for the piano. most of the live music is from older books; probably all of it, except i don't have any bee-sides music except those that came in the books for the major album releases (le, utp, bfp & ftcg). but the songs i checked out are all the same as in the other books, which i suppose is to be expected. i guess i don't know too much about the songbooks and what kind of stuff people like to know, so sorry if this letter is just a clutter! i'm pretty excited about finally having the book though; i was expecting it about a month ago. till later, s. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #367 *************************************
