This is an album with a scientific slant, definitely! On the Dent there is an article mentioning her reading astronomy/physics books to learn about Venus. If you want to know about ether, I can fill you in (I have a Chem. minor), but I think she may be referring to the ancient term for heaven: ether. I happen to think that she may have meant both meanings. Chill that bends--this reminds me of the "feel the chill...she breaks, my Siren" or however that lyric goes. So, maybe she was chilled and yet able to bend, but not frozen solid and broken? Like, a problem in her life that is serious, but not serious enough to really fuck with her head, you know? Maybe it is meant to show that the character in this song has grown to be able to be more flexible in the face of adversary. What do you think? You know, you use infrared to try and determine what kinda molecule you have, it's different bonds and suchlike. I thought that she meant you could use infrared to 'read' the "chill that bends".
