Admittedly, I have got to say that the lyrics are weak, and the synthesizers just take away from her AND the band. Datura isn't even a song, it's a trippy instrumental. This kills me to say this, I am as huge of a Tori fan as they come. But I really think these songs REALLY could have been fantastic if maybe she had taken more time on them. Gave them spirits. This album has no emotions behind it, except in a thousand Oceans there is something there. It doesn't feel like home anymore. It's the only thing she's ever done that I don't like. Bliss and 1000 Oceans are good (as well as Suede, but unfortunately they are surrounded by weak songs) beginnings and endings, as well as gteat singles. So much more potential. :-( I'm pretty disappointed. However, the live tracks are wonderful, with Cloud on My Tongue, Bells For Her, Girl, and Space Dog, taking me back to the day. "tee-vab", much easier than "fut-tch-guh" as the last one is so charmingly known... good to see Tori's consideration of her webby fans' day to day needs) Anyway: themes - you know, like LE was "I want to begin!"-ey, and UTP was "you bitch!"-ey, and BFP was "you bastard!"-ey, and FTCGH was "no baby/getting married"-ey, (ok so I'm generalising err.. a little here). Maybe TVABs weirdness is rooted in its "surprise! it's another album! and it's twins!"-eyness. Thanks for looking up the domain name, because it was quite helpful. Judging from the email add of the contact information, the website is hosted by the Artistdirect Network. I don't know how many of you know about this place, but it basically hosts official websites and music stores (just like i-Music or Rocktropolis do) for a number of musical artists, such as the Beastie Boys, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson etc. Anyhow, it seems that Tori Amos will probably have *another* official website. I just went there to check, and she's listed, both under the "website" and "store" category. Someone already posted that the store works (www.toriamosdirect.com), but the actual website isn't up yet. So, why have another website? The thing to note about ArtistDirect, is that they host websites for the actual artist (or their respective management/fan clubs), and NOT the record company, which is why www.toriamos.com isn't registered to Atlantic, but one of Tori's representatives. My guess is that Tori or Arthur Spivak aren't happy with the Atlantic site, or just want their own (and hopefully better :) website. I guess they got a little ahead of themselves, since it's already on the album sleeve, but if the store's already up, the website is sure to follow. There are a number of musicians out there, who have both a record label and their own homepage (like REM), so it's nothing unusual. sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 14:57:42 EDT From: Wintdve98@aol.com Subject: Re: still orbiting dates yea i think (and am almost positive) Bells For Her is 11/13/99 at Poughkeepsie (is the date right? i'm not in the right state of mind). - -Susan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 06:59:14 -0700 From: copperdryad Subject: Re: datura vs. god mr zebra wrote: > > Is it just me or does the piano riff/drum combination at the beginning of > Datura sound EXACTLY like that of God?!? a lot of the background sounds echo past girls... most of the drum track on the studio CD sounds like "jupiter"... :\ ~~kelley ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 16:29:54 EDT From: JiVaDiVa@aol.com Subject: Tori Video What exactly was the video playing on the screens behind Jay Leno when he was announcing his guests? Later that day they called my house and talked to my mom...I didn't have a clue what was going on. SO once me, my mom and my friend got there we met up with the people. The radio station was SOOO great. They traded the original tickets I had (5th row) to 1st row and then took me to sit in the place and see Tori play her soundcheck. After that they handed out Alanis backstage passes (this wasn't the BEST for me, but it was something). Then they took us down to this really icky under ground place and said "OK Susan ready to meet Tori Amos?" I went insane!! So they took me to some room and there she was, standing there in a great looking jackets and such (a different outfit from the m&g and soundcheck) and her BIG eyes looking at me. I was choking by now and mom and keri had to hold me up and walk me to her. We took a polaroid together and Tori signed it. Then she saw my LE cd and took it from my hand and said "Oh is this for me to sign?" I nodded and she signed it. We hugged twice and (from what I remember) all I could say was "I love you". I gave her my gift (necklace and a postcard with words) and she smiled and said "Thank You" then as we were leaving (i hated to part from her) she gave me one HUGE hug (lasted forever it felt) and looked at my kat ears (I love those novelty things) and purred then giggled. (skipping over meeting Alanis cause it was such a nothing kinda thing, she is so cold!!) Then I sat through the concert with AMAZING seats. Afterwards Tori came up to me and some guy pushed me (very hard) out of the way to shake Tori's hand but my mom pushed me back up and Tori snudged away the man's hand and took my hand with both of hers and winked at me. WOW was it great! There is a section at the Dent that talks about the taping of it. ~* jo§h ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 19:32:57 EDT From: Concorder@aol.com Subject: FS: TICKETS TO BOTH LOS ANGELES SHOWS i have one ticket available on the 25th... i don't have the exact seat number but it is in the middle of a loge on the 26th i have one ticket which is in the first row in the next section after orchestra i might have 2 orchestra tickets to sell too i am looking for $51 for the 25th ticket and the 26th ticket and $80 each for the orchestra... if it's too much $ maybe we an work something out... i'll be in las vegas... look for me, i'm really tall! i'll be wearing a whit rainn shirt in las vegas at the meet and greet but i won't be at the 25th show..i'll be at the 26th show meet and greet though ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 18:39:03 -0500 From: "Joshua Meier" Subject: Re: jay leno >>> 09/22 11:06 PM >>> i dont mean to be negative but........... does anyone else think jay leno is just a big duh jerk? i mean ive never liked him that much before but when he and tori were talking he just acted like everything she said was dumb and incomprehensible (if thats a word) do you guys know what im saying? its like he was acting like WOW WHAT A WEIRDO! i mean he was nice to her ... but just acting like she was speaking a different language! anyways bethany>> I actually have to disagree with you. Jay is a lot better to tori than many other late night hosts. Everytime I've seen her on Letterman, she's played, Dave has said Cool! and then cut to commercial, and said nothing else to her. The same with Conan and anywhere else she might have performed. Jay actually takes time to ask her questions. I think the reason that he seems "big duh jerk" is cause he has these questions to get across to promote her, and she always has these great tangent answers (god bless em though) that cut out on his question time. But she's always gotten like, 5 extra minutes of airtime on his show. And whenever he brings her up, he calls her cutsie names. Like, the umm, performance of hey Jupiter 3 years ago, when he met her he said "hey pal!" it was great, and it's not something one usually calls the female guests. I think they get along quite well, and that he really likes her. I'm not too sure, but from what I've heard about the 1,000 Oceans video, it looks like that's what it is... I think there's info about the 1K Oceans video on the Dent... and it describes something about a glass booth that Tori is in with people surrounding it, looking in.. so that's probably what it is... especially since she did that song for the show... On another note.. somebody mentioned that Tori sang Oceans -twice- on Leno.. was that person in the audience to hear it afterwards or something?
