It's jo§h who oh-so-recently got his college account and totally would have been back here like a week ago, had he not been dumb. I n regards to the number system, I only got closer to tori without it at my first show, due to the fact that I was with some really observant people who totally noticed that we were all standing on the wrong side of the venue, because they were tricking us into staying on one side while they set up the barricade on the other. The reason that the people who are assigning numbers have the lowest is because they generally are the first to reach the venue and begin the number system. It's not that they are bullies, it's that they are trying to create the most organized possible way of getting as many people to see tori as possible. These people don't do it for their own well-being. They do it because they are kind enough to try and avoid mass-hysteria. And a lot of times, if people are just chatting (because we do know there are those who ar! ! e there only to speak with tori) they will take your stuff you want signed with them to the front. I understand there are a lot of issues with the system, but I personally think it's agood way to do it. I mean, if these people ARE willing to show up at the venue at god-forbidden hours, then they have a right to see tori up close and personal. I didn't spend 8 hours at the chicago venue to be tricked out of not meeting tori, but apparently that was the case. I do not mean to slam anybody here, but let's get with the program. There have been SO many threads about people whining because they were upset with the way the meet'n'greet worked out. I'm sorry. And I'm not trying to say if you're a "true fan" you'll show up at o'dark 30 to be the first there. I'm just saying please, let's let the issue slide past. I hate that whenever I read a post, it's got to be something about how somebody is upset witht he way the concert is working. I am not really big on the idea of barricades, an! ! d I wish it could be like in the old days where one could just wal we'll just have to deal. I'm sorry if this comes off wrong, but it's just as silly for people to bitch about how bad the conditions are as it is for people to have to show up in themiddle of the night to reach her. During/after the last tour, I remember seeing lots of letters that said this, and also heard it from people waiting for a show etc.: It was complaints about people in the first row or two not moving out of the way and leaving once they had met Tori. So that others could move up and fill in their spot. I wanna say in advance, so there's no possible fighting about this at the meet and greets (I mean if I can help prevent some bad energy or violence...): They are TOLD not to move. This is for safety reasons. If those people moved, the (overly energized) crowd would surge forward trying to fill in the vacant spot, and people could be badly hurt. Knocked down, stepped on, etc. They could fall over the barricade. They could surge forward en masse and possibly even reach where Tori is. All not good. So just know, they are specifically told not to move after they meet Tori. For good reason. When I was first row that time, it's the first thing Joel and Steve said when they appeared. They told everyone in the front row NOT to move even after they meet Tori. So don't be angry if they don't move-- they're not supposed to. 'Kay ? It might seem unfair, but it's all about preventing possible accidents. Any time there is a crowd of people, things can happen... it's their job to *minimize* those things. Safety first. Ok enuf about that.... Be safe everyone K. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. It's really easy to get dehydrated if you're standing out in the sun for several hours. " I just wanted to add one more thing to bring: SUNBLOCK. Especially if you burn easily or get sunstroke... you will be likely standing in the sun for hours, in the summer heat... Someone named Kristy said she didn't like the number system at all and didn't see why it was used... Can I offer a different opinion ? The number system stops people from showing up at the last minute and pushing aside people who've been there for hours or overnight. Seems fair to me (as long as there's no cheating or people licking their hand to remove the number etc.). It does need to be handled well tho; and have responsible people in charge of it, or yes it can be used unfairly. Also-- what if someone isn't that healthy and can't stand for hours, but really wants to meet Tori ? If they need to go sit down in the shade, with numbers they can do so. Or use the bathroom... or eat lunch... I don't see the problem with using numbers... As for the bit about what could someone do to you if you don't have a number and get in the front anyway ? Hm, well I'm just waiting for the moment when some EWF gets sick of people who cut in line and SHOWS them what. Not looking forward to it... just expecting it to happen. It's people cutting unfairly that probably leads to a lot of the pushing and shoving... And as someone who was once in the first row (I got there before anyone else did) (after a show); I can tell you that not only is shoving unnecessary but it's very dangerous... this to everyone so that maybe calm will prevail... Flattening the person in front of you will not get you closer to Tori. The calmer the crowd, the less shoving, the longer she might stay. And the longer she might stay, the more chance you MIGHT get stuff signed or get to see her thru the crowd or snap a pic of her; even with people in front of you. I won't be trying to go to any meet and greets. I've had my turn, it's someone else's now, plus the way they have been going is friggin scary. (*unless* I get a telephoto lens and stand wayyy off to one side and snap pix--which I love-- but I doubt even that) But good luck and be safe everyone else; K. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Instead of having a little respect for people trying to keep order amidst the chaos of usually over 100 people all wanting to meet Tori, you suggest complete anarchy. Yeah, there are some shitty people who think they need to be in front of EVERY M&G.. there are also a bunch of wonderful people who will give up their spots in line for people who have never seen Tori. If people are doing numbers, PLEASE cooperate with them. Those who don't are in the extreme minority. All resisting does is turn you into a jerk. And don't tell me that the numbers don't work, because they do and I've seen it happen. I saw over 150 people walk in an orderly line to the barracades in Nashville not two days ago. That's right .. 150 people! It can work. Just have a little faith. Keith S. - -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- Keith D. I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! the number people are more like NAZIS. they're *ALWAYS* first and somehow think that they have devine power over who gets to be first in line and what not. last yr, i arrived at the columbus show at 8am, and saw only 3 people there. i was told though that i would be number 45 because people had been there since before the sun even came up, given out numbers, and then gone to hotel room to sleep! B.S!!!!!!!! sorry, i think you should have to get there and stay put! this crap about getting a number, then lining up and walking over to the barricades in a single line is B.S. those of you who have been at the concerts *KNOW* who these number NAZIS are, and it is possible that one of you is actually reading this now. if you are, HEY!!! how about letting OTHER PEOPLE actually get to meet tori?? strange idea i know, but do you *REALLY* think that tori HAS to talk to you before every freakin' show? you're no more important than anyone else there! and since you guys did a pretty good job of ruining M&G's for people last yr, how about not being a**holes this time around? my suggestion: everyone ignore the number system! there's always going to be someone claiming that they have been there before you even though you didn't see that person til 5 hrs after you got there. if anyone has a better idea about how to operate the M&G's, let hear some ideas! i for one just plan on making a run for it when it's time! by the way, people who say that they've been at these outside venues since midnight or whatever....that's B.S. i have friends that work at Polaris, and you're NOT allowed on the property until a certain time....and it's never been at like midnight.......it's not until early the next morning or the afternoon. i have yet to go to a venue that actually allows you to hang around on the property at midnight or 2 am, or whatever crazy time people claim they got there christiaan On Tue, 24 Aug 1999, Kristy wrote: > > Keith Shapiro wrote: > >Actually, 6 am will get you a number around 30. MACPHISTO" Subject: SEATTLE TORI TICKET 10 OCT 1999 for sale HELLO TORILAND, I have decided that I wont be able to go to the Seattle,WA Tori show. I am going to Portland, Oregon the night before. I am selling my ticket for exactly what I paid for it. IT'S GENERAL ADMISSION-FLOOR. I don't believe in scalping tickets. It cost me $29.00+$6.25 service charge. (I hate ticketmaster)=$32.25 I will include the receipt. I have traded on ebay before so I am reliable. Check out my feedback under "mrsmacphisto".(www.ebay.com) I have to admit I am very disapointed I am not able to go. I was so excited about going to two Tori shows. Well basically whoever emails me first will ba able to have the ticket. I want to work it the same way ebay works. Buyer sends check or money order then I will send the ticket the next day. Please help me out I don't wan't this ticket to go to waste. Peace and Love, Angi _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Two friends of mine stayed for Alanis at the Tampa show, and both of them SWEAR that Alanis was lipsynching! Also, another friend told me that when Alanis plays the harmonica, she bends over really far and her long nasty hair covers her entire face, harmonica included, so we're thinking that maybe her "playing" is actually being broadcast pre-recorded. Hey, call us cynical, but I never thought Alanis had an ounce of talent to begin with. Instead of having a little >respect for people trying to keep order amidst the chaos of usually over >100 people all wanting to meet Tori, you suggest complete anarchy. that is definitely *not* the case. thanks for twisting my words around; appreciated. The number system, AFAIS, is *always* run by the exact same group of people who have low numbers. It's *THOSE* people who are ruining the m&g's; not ones who won't abide by that damn number system. it's the people who show up about 30 minutes prior to M&G time, with low #s on their hands, telling the people who've been standing there for hours to move; they don't have a number. That's just plain RUDE. If you want to meet Tori, keep your ass there. I wouldn't expect anyone to move for *me* if I had a low number. And I'd hardly call it 'complete chaos' when there are 100 people at a m&g. they don't push. at least i've never seen them push. people will pass things up to be signed and whatnot, but i've never seen anyone get hurt. >Yeah, there are some shitty people who think they need to be in front of >EVERY M&G.. there are also a bunch of wonderful people who will give up >their spots in line for people who have never seen Tori. and that's exactly how *i* met tori. but there was also no number system going on, and the m&g went perfectly. i was 3 people back, and this wonderful woman put me in the front (i was crying...couldn't help it, *lol*, it was awful :o). oh, man...imagine that! no number system, and it went fine. i still stand by my words...the number system is complete BS. and that's _hardly_ selfish. if you've been standing there waiting for 6 hours, and someone with a low number tells you to move, now *that's* what i'd have to call selfish. >If people are doing numbers, PLEASE cooperate with them. Those who don't >are in the extreme minority. All resisting does is turn you into a jerk. hardly so. >And don't tell me that the numbers don't work, because they do and I've >seen it happen. I saw over 150 people walk in an orderly line to the >barracades in Nashville not two days ago. That's right .. 150 people! they CAN work, but they also tend to piss a LOT of people off. in binghamton, it was complete and utter chaos, despite the number system going on. the guy screaming at everyone to let him number their hands (with a 6 on his, funny...) came out as a complete asshole.
