The live cut of Hey Jupiter is gorgeous and Upside Down is just terrific. She is so funny with Upside Down. She does a lot of talking and laughing before she plays, then after she starts to play, she stops and begins again after talking some more. She said she doesn't play it often but "someone in the coffee shop" asked her the night before to play it. The whole thing is really "fab". The sound is so clear on the live cuts, and having the lyrics of Bliss printed on the inside cover makes a ton of difference. Lauderdale concert...Tori seemed more energized, and she talked to the crowd a little more. But oddly enough, her setlist for this one was almost the exact same as in Lauderdale, with the exception of her solo songs...she chose Silent All These Years and Take to the Sky this time, but other than that, the songs were the same and even in the same order. However, I didnt really care much because Tori has a way of playing the same song twice and making it sound completely different each time. She did a version of Blood Roses that completely kicked my ass!! In between songs, she searched her pockets and then lamented "Fuck! I dont have any lipgloss! Anyone have any lipgloss?" A technician later brought her some :) I'm thinking that she was more energetic and interacted with the crowd more because her parents werent there this time! Would YOU guys say "Fuck" in front of your parents and then shoot the bird (which she did at one point?) Cheers! I agree to, but with the addendum that we're still lucky Tori makes the attempt at all. There were a lot of complaints on the Dent about the way the Ft. Laud m&G went off - and didn't go off post-show. In addition to the new legions of fans discovering M&G via the Net, there is also the added problems regarding the fact that she is touring with another people. Two sets of schedules have to be accommodated and a post-show fell by the wayside. It's not Alanis or Tori's fault; people just have to understand that things have changed from the way they were. My friend who was able to see Tori at the afternoon m&G said she looked scared. I never want to see that in our goddess. If M&Gs have to fall by the wayside to make her comfortable in the longer run, unfortunately I think so be it. paige- === Steady as it comes right down to you I've said it all so maybe we're a bliss of another kind __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? First, after experiencing many Tori concerts on every tour over the years, this was the most disappointing but not because of the performance. The performance was fantastic but the sound mix was terrible. I first blamed it on the arena setting, which doesn't do much for Tori, but then Alanis sounded great. My seats were on the floor, off center in the 10th row. What I believe to pretty good sound seats. So why did Tori sound so garbled and Alanis sound so great? I'm fortunate to know the words that Tori was singing but any newcomers (Alanis fan exposure) would be lost. I could understand every word of Alanis and the musical nuances came across clear. My first thing to change is the bass. It was so overwhelming, it drowned out Tori, her piano and Caton much of the time. I've made an effort to point this out, so maybe future shows will be better (?) It' shouldn't be like many shows where the opener sounds like they're playing out of the back of a van while the headliner is in Royal Albert Hall. This is pretty much a co-headlining tour. Anyone else notice this problem as much as myself? During the week I tend to do two sessions of moderating (early evening and late evening Eastern Time) and on the weekends I will do two or three if I'm around. However, that schedule is by no means set in stone. Why am I telling you all this? Now that Tori's latest tour is in full swing there are a lot more people posting time-sensitive messages to the list, offering tickets for sale at the last minute or giving notice of some promotional appearance by Tori that hasn't previously been announced. Given the fact that my moderation schedule can vary quite a bit, especially on weekends, it is very possible that such messages can end up going out to the list too late for them to do any good. Please try to post time-sensitive messages as far in advance as you can to help ensure that they have a better chance of being seen by the precious-things community in time. However, there is one line which I seem to be hearing differently. It's when people write "I got my story of all in my bucket seat". I think she's saying "I got my 'Story of O' in my bucket seat". The Story of O is a famous book about the S&M and sexual experiences of this woman who becomes a man's "slave". I can't remember much more about it, but I'm sure it isn't hard to find info about it. It is not a modern piece of literature and it has always been considered rather risque. Does anyone else think this is what Tori is talking about in the song? I don't think she's saying she wanted to participate in S&M, but rather that it is a sign of the rebellion against her parents and the church which she felt when she went to LA. Anyway...I thought that since most of us already know what track will be on the live album (if you don't yet the list is posted on the Dent) it would be appropriate to announce the results of the little survey I did of what song we (the EWF) we like to see most on the live album. tied for 1st with 4 votes each: Raspberry Swirl iieee Sugar 3 votes each: Caught A Lite Sneeze Father Lucifer 2 votes each: Girl Cooling Winter Cornflake Girl and the rest only got 1 each: Siren Bells for Her Take to the Sky Hotel Talula Little Earthquakes Here.in my Head Precious Things Honey Waitress Professional Widow Merman And just a note: We are all very lucky IMO to be getting this new album at all. Not only do we get the live stuff we have been asking for but we get an album of all new stuff. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I recall something about this... and I think that the band made some horrible song and called it "featuring Tori Amos" and to make fun of her or something. anyway, i've never heard the song, but I have heard OF it and it makes me ill.. Well first of all as soon as I got into Atlanta(since I live in Tallahassee) we went straight to the M&G and it was about 3pm and we got all ready but I was way in the back then Tori came walking out looking amazing with a lovely purple tee on. And well she was there a while(from what I heard the longest this tour) and I brought my GOD single and I passed it up hoping it would get signed and it did. I have'nt tooken my eyes off it since I got it. And some guy had a bruette on and I think he had an extra one and gave it to Tori and she put it on:). Well for the concert it was amazing just so great. It was my first concert and I was seeing Tori how great? Tori should've played at night, and longer. Well after Tori played we went to go pee and some guy asked if we wanted his 5TH ROW TICKETS!!!!!!! So we sat in the 5th row for Alanis(which I wished it was Tori) Here is the set list. A bunch of folks whose opinions I respect found it to have been a more powerful show than usual, while I found her to have been more distracted than I've seen her in a long time, and needing to really fight to keep herself focused. Once again the opener Ms Gaines was out and performing nearly an hour earlier than the scheduled start time, and to a largely empty house. Also once again, Tori played for an hour and eighteen minutes (8:15 - 9:33). Alanis came on at 10:04, and I was unable to stay for her but heard that she was on past 11pm. This show was the first of the outdoor venues on the 5 1/2 Weeks Tour, and I asked the woman in the box office if she knew anything about an absolute curfew due to a local sound ordinance and she confirmed what I'd been hearing; they were supposed to be stopped by 11pm or laws would be broken. I have no idea how this might have been dealt with since I heard that Alanis played later than 11. She hadn't come on until 10:04, and there surely would have been a bad scene had she not played longer than 55 minutes. For the show tonight in Nashville, the local papers are listing the start time as 7pm rather than the originally scheduled 7:30. If folks can get into these venues that early then there's a chance of this ongoing grey cloud fading away. This brings us back to my show comments. Many folks were still being seated for like the first 20 minutes Tori was playing. Between that and the camera planted in front of her for the lawn seats' TV screen it was distracting to audience and Tori both. Surprise: This affects the music! Tori is looking over a sea of people walking around in the aisles with ushers constantly shining their flashlights on new arrivals' ticket stubs is not conducive to a stellar performance. I appreciate the rock-and-a-hard-place position of the tour managers and promoters. The equipment set-up for Alanis after Tori is taking a solid half hour, when only fifteen minutes had been allotted. It has to be a total nightmare trying to plan these things, and it's certainly one *I'd* have no interest in living through. It's too late for anything to be done about this problem other than what they've been trying to do. They can plan to start these shows earlier, but we need to get the word out to folks to get to the venues half an hour sooner than they'd planned-- otherwise, folks going to the shows on this tour are going to continue to hear Tori and band playing for the first few songs while all the people being seated create a huge distraction for everyone. Having said all of that, wow, there were a lot of powerful moments during this show. Suede showed a lot of promise, and we got a wonderful Cruel on this tour for the first time. It seemed an ongoing struggle for her, but Tori kept at it and when all was said and done, put herself across in the end. I hate to be on a soapbox about this thing, but seriously: If you're going to attend one of these shows, try to get to the venue a little sooner than you might typically do for the start time on the ticket, and encourage your friends to do the same. Unless and until the promoters can figure out another way around this equipment set-up concern besides starting the shows earlier, getting to the venue and taking your seat can help cut down the distraction factor. I have to take my own advice and get down the road to this Nashville show.
