Hi y'all First, let me say that due to work and other crap I haven't checked this list since late June. I'm sorry to have been out of the loop for so long. Given that, I hope this question isn't horribly lame. I see people mentioning songs called Bliss and 1,000 Oceans. What are these? Are they new singles? Are they from the upcomming double CD? Thanks in advance for the info. Sorry to take up your time with the obvious. Tom _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. They also had a key chain with those words, and I bought a cute light violet shirt that has a picture of a window with roses scattered across it and a picture of a lake in the background out the window. In the upper right hand corner it says (in light blue lettering) "Moistening". I'm sure it's something from one of the songs on the new album, who knows? In the lower left hand corner it has Tori's name, and then on the back it says in all upper cases ON THE BOMB. I have no dea what this means, but I'm looking forward to finding out. Also, there were about four or five other shirts. Two I think had a couple covers from "To Venus and Back" and some others were the regular tour shirts. My question is: Going thru some things I found out I have not one but two copies of the Tori Video Collection. The one with all the videos including the European ones, & Spark. But, one is about the size of a blank video, the case I mean; although it's in a hard black plastic case. The other one is just like it on the outside, except that the case is much bigger-- the size of the cases Disney puts their movies in. The kind that won't fit in a video cabinet. So I would like to know if there is any other difference between these ? Is one more collectible than the other ? Does one have things on it that the other one doesn't ? For instance, sometimes with an artist's video or audio release, they will edit out certain tiny things, etc., or add more, in later versions. I've had one copy since the video came out, and the other, I bought recently. (I also had one that was open; but I gave that away last Christmas. How'd I get so many ? I have no idea.) Since they are both still sealed, and I might give one as a gift, I can't open them to see for myself. ANYWAY will someone please tell me if there is any difference at all between these two versions, or if one size case is more collectible than the other is... etc. Reason I need to know asap is, my cousin's birthday is soon and I thought I'd give her one as a gift. She's semi into Tori and I might like to give her a reason to become a real EWF. I think she might really like Tori's music if exposed to it more. But I'd like to keep the rarer one for myself (if there is such a thing) -- I'm the collector... she'd just be mildly curious. If they are both worth keeping for collectibility's sake, I'll maybe send her some uh concert video ;o) instead. Okay-- hope that made sense ! Replies much appreciated. (privately please-- by the time PT digest comes out it might be too late-- her birthday's soon). Why in the world would people interrupt Tori while she's singing a song she has said she barely has the strength to make it through sometimes ?! A song like Me and a Gun ??!! Of all times ? The opening act, Greta Gaines, was fantastic....and Tori didnt take forever to get onstage after Greta left, like she has done in the other two Tori shows I have seen. She opened with a rockin' version of God. Tori's set was a lot shorter than I would have liked (Why couldnt she have just toured alone?? Why why why?) but she did the most and the best she could with the little time allotted to her. The highlight of her set, IMHO, was her solo version of Cooling. Just beautiful! She did one encore (Precious Things) and then left the stage to Alanis's crew...now this is where it starts to bug me! Tori had a very minimalist set...just the instruments, the lights, and these weird tinfoil looking things that were hanging....but Alanis had these extravagant tie dyed banners hanging everywhere, and some weird Indian looking banner hanging behind her...it looked like a freakin opium den. The smoke that was pouring everywhere did little to rid me of that idea. I left before she finished her first song :) One of the coolest things that happened, though, was that we were sitting right by Tori's parents! The show was very near where they live (is it St. Lucie or Jupiter?) and they came to see their lovely daughter play...we were too chicken to talk to them, though :) THEY left before Alanis came on too, hahaha! The merchandise they sell is great, though predictably terribly overpriced...I bought a ten dollar necklace that says Venus Envy on it (LOL, I cant get over that, esp. since so many boys have told me I have penis envy) but I'm too poor to afford the 27 dollar T shirts. Luckily, the merchandise is separated...Alanis gets her own, and Tori gets her own. I know some of us were worried that they would have "combo" shirts. A fun time was had by all, and I cant wait to see her again in Tampa on Friday!! Thanks for reading! Hi Guys, [I'm not trading, except perhaps if someone has a show from the current tour in good quality] I was recently sent a copy of a 7 track tape, which I assume is taken from a promotional sampler item in the UK, although I haven't actually seen anything of the sort or heard of it yet. I'm surprised I haven't heard it mentioned. Tracks are : Bliss, Juarez, Concertina, Glory Of The 80s, Suede, 1000 Oceans and Datura. I'll give a brief overview and my personal, very much first-impression thoughts on each one. Bliss - I'm sure you'll all have heard by now - I heard it described by a friend as "Little Earthquakes meets Spark" and although I'm not quite sure I agree with that, it's certainly a sound choice for a single. I like the chorus, although I think the lyrics are a little more obscured by the music than they ought to be, something which I would say (with few exceptions) about the tracks on this tape. It has a very strong feel about it, and would have fitted pretty well onto Choirgirl, I would say. but enough of songs most people have heard... Juarez - starting with just drum beats and synth sounds with tori "doo doo doo doo" over the top, it descends fairly quickly into industrial-style noises with distorted, static-like vocals which I can't make out properly for the life of me. Tori's voice stays very low for a large part of the song. The only lyric easily made out is "time to keep it" which she repeats during the second minute. It's pretty non-descript, honestly, although it may well grow on me eventually, I find it hard to relate to in any way - let's put it this way, the sheet music would have very few notes, just a bass-line and drum beats. It reminds me in a way of a faster version, extended, to the intro of PJ Harvey's My Beautiful Leah. Concertina - now this I *love* far more traditional. Starts off with no beat, drums kick in "Just another dream" in the first verse. Slightly distorted vocal again. There's a great stereo effect on the "Too Far" "Too Far" lines. Quite a beautiful little thing, this - nice synth strings and pianos. - -- Concertina Lyrics : [Guesses] Clouds descending I'm not policing what you think and dream I run into your thought from 'cross the room Just another dream Can I [weather?????] I got a fever above my waist. You've got a squeeze-box on your knee The truth is inbetween The first and the fortieth dream. Concertina Concertina [chill my bones] This I swear You're the fiercest calm I've been in Concertina Concertina try infra-red You're the fiercest calm I've been in. So quick ? a tear in a glass world. party girl about article she slowly changes. She likes hanging Chinese paper cuts. Just another fix Can I weather the ??????????? I've got my fuzz all tipped to play. I've got a dub on your landscape The [magic policy?] of trancing. The soul ??????? blame [The solace / soul without the blame, perhaps?] Concertina Concertina Chill my bones. This I swear You're the fiercest Calm I've been in. Concertina Concertina Try infra red This I swear You're the fiercist Calm I've been in. Too far Too far Too far It'll get away. [???????????] I've got a fever above my waist. You've got a squeeze box on your knee. I know the truth lies inbetween The first and the fortieth dream. Concertina Concertina [Chill burns?] This I swear, you're the fiercest Calm I've been in. Concertina Concertina Try infra-red This I swear, you're the fiercest Calm I've been in. Clouds descending. - -- Glory Of The 80s some of you will have heard at the first gig. It does sound like an 80s synth pop track at the beginning. The lyrics are occasionally obscured by the music again, though. I tried to guess these lyrics but they aren't quite clear enough, and although you can pick out 60%+ of the words, it wouldn't be much use to read through, so I deleted them again. Constant beat through the track. The chorus is "The Glories Of The 80s. He said I'm not afraid to die. I said "I don't find that remotely funny." It's basically a classic dance track, and it would be a huge seller if sufficiently well remixed. Definitely going to be a fan favourite for the album, and especially for anyone who enjoyed 80s music. Lots and lots of fun. If I could dance, I would to this one. If there's a single apart from the chosen ones on this tape, it's this. - -- Suede... Ooh, back into the industrial goth grinding noises, here. Ominous noises with Tori saying "Suede. Suede. Suede" "You always felt like Suede. There are days I feel your Twin Peakable underneath your skin." The lyrics aren't that hard to make out, although they're deliberately distorted. This one, if you don't listen to it closely seems to come across as something of a nothing. However on closer inspection, it's actually rather beautiful, lyrically and musically, it just takes some time to grow. No immediately obvious verse / chorus / verse structure if you aren't listening properly, you see.Virtually no piano in this at all. - --- 1,000 Oceans. Is excellent, perfect, wonderful, joyous and sad. Never fails to make the hair on my arms stand on end. If you haven't heard it yet, just wait for the single. Beautiful. - -- Datura. Is son of God, if you'll excuse the pun. The beginning, the instrumentation - is just God part two, at least for a couple of minutes, it appears to end, then there's static and an industrial, heavy, thudding drum beat kicks in complete with snarling static. From that point on, the lyrics are just *not* audible, or what I can hear doesn't sound like any word I've heard before. Keeps saying the same thing, something like "Dividing Canaan Piece By Piece" and repeats this ad infinitum. Little swirly synth noises, then it just ends. - -- Well, you've been enormously patient, and here's the reward. There's 30 second MP3's of the new songs at the following location. Hi Guys, > > The tracks haven't been announced yet. The release date is October > > 17th. The price is 9.99. If they announce a limited 2nd CD single to October 17th is not a UK release date, as it falls on a Sunday - more likely it would be the 18th. First of all, no one had any idea if it would come off in the first place. Then the people doing the numbering vanished for a couple hours. So when we went to eat we got knocked down 20 places. But THAT didn't matter, cause when everyone ran to line up (2 hours before T came out) the numbers were obsolete. But that didn't matter either cause the M&G area was so small that barely anyone got to do anything. I couldn't even see Tori. My friend, who is taller, said she looked scared. I hate to think of that! Then people passing up things to the front for those in the back got in trouble for passing up things. I don't want to pick on ANYONE, because we're lucky enough that T takes any time for us and that those around her help her do it, but trying to enforce the numbering system would have been preferable to doing that. everyone single file, spaced out and able to breathe. Even I, who wound up no. 59, could agree to that. Someone's gonna get hurt. p- === Steady as it comes right down to you I've said it all so maybe we're a bliss of another kind __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Although I wish it had a more healthy dose of piano. I think this one will take a little more than a 30 second sample Concertina is my fave so far. I love synth strings. That's my favorite part of Girl. Juarez seems a bit NINISH. Very little piano, but it's there. I think it will probably take more listening to. Tori did say it was about the town Juarez where so many women had been raped and killed. Datura seems very awesome to me. I don't know why...her voice is just beautiful over this HUGE beat. I think she's saying something like Get Out Of My Garden. For some reasons I just get a view of the sky with Tori's face as clouds move across. It seems like the kind of song that you would see in the ending credits for a very dark movie. Glory of the 80's seems very Alanisish. If any of you have her last CD SFIJ you'lll notice the likeness to the song Front Row. I'm not a huge Alanis fan nor do I hate her. I actually have SFIJ and like it a lot more than the first CD. Please don't start sending flame posts damning Tori for getting a bit of this sound. If you'll wait and listen you'll realize just how neat it sounds. And the lyrics I've heard, I really love. I must say I'm very entuasiastic about this album and can't wait to get my hands on it. Even though there are tons of beats ..etc, it seems a lot more raw to me than FTCGH. Don't get me wrong, I loved FTCGH, but I thought many of those songs sounded MUCH better live. I think she's sort of taken on that live sound in the studio and she's taken one step further with industrial beats. My expectations weren't as high for this album considering the short amount of time Tori had to make it in, but I can already tell I shouldn't have doubted Tori. COME SEPT 21! HURRY!
