It's so that Tori can include the live tracks that couldn't go onto the album - also, I would guess that perhaps all the tracks on the album are with the band, so these are to represent the previous tours as much as anything. Add to that, anyone who thinks the live versions are the same as the studio versions, hasn't seen Tori live... I saw the Sessions broadcast completely by accident in Canada and was completely blown away by both The Waitress and Caught A Lite Sneeze - the difference that a tour makes is ... indescribable. (*^_^*) Checking availability at the Ticketmaster web site is quite easy. Simply act like you are going to buy tickets. Tell the site how many you want and it will dive into its ticketing system and then show you what seats you will be getting. At that point you can continue to buy them or just leave without buying anything. That way you can judge availability without commiting to anything. However, you have to do this during the day since the ticketing system does not work at night. I doubt if Starwood would be sold out yet! Reece ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 13:22:19 -0700 From: violet@torithoughts.org Subject: interesting little detail I tuned in to a Joseph Campbell lecture on an educational channel in the wee hours of the morning. In this particular episode of the series, the topic was the various Grail legends. Right when I came in, he was discussing Perceval's task and was saying that the subtext of the myth is the search for one's own bliss, one's joy. Knowing Tori's fondness for Joseph's writings, I of course thought of Tori and the new single when he mentioned bliss. I haven't read many of his books myself, but I'm wondering if this is covered in any of them at any length. Might be interesting to look into... :) Also interesting is that in my own favorite book on the Grail Legend -- which a psychological examination of the themes and archtypes and how they reflect fundamental human problems -- the chapter titled "Perceval's Task" begins: "The _Pandora_, an alchemical text of 1588..." Violet xoxox ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 14:19:43 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: _The Singles_ sheet music book The reports of a new Tori sheet music book are true. The book is called _The Singles_, and has the sheet music to all 17 of Tori's released singles: Caught a Lite Sneeze, China, Cornflake Girl, Crucify, God, Hey Jupiter, In the Springtime of His Voodoo, Jackie's Strength, Me and a Gun, Past the Mission, Pretty Good Year, Professional Widow, Raspberry Swirl, Silent All These Years, Spark, Talula, Winter. There are a couple of new pictures inside. They look like they were taken around the same time as the postcards in the UK Spark ltd ed single. All of this sheet music is available elsewhere. If you have the other books of sheet music, I can't see any reason to purchase this. The two new pictures inside aren't, IMHO, worth the $24.95 cover price. Given the choice between this book and _Anthology_, I'd pick _Anthology_ hands down: you at least get some bee-sides in _Anthology_ (although not all of the singles). The cover features 12 single covers, 3 across, 4 down. Where the single had different covers (UK vs US, ltd ed vs non ltd ed, etc), I noted which one: row 1: Cornflake Girl (UK non ltd-ed), China, Crucify (US) row 2: Hey Jupiter, Past the Mission (UK)*, PGY (UK ltd ed) row 3: Professional Widow, Talula (US)*, Winter (US "ltd ed") row 4: SATY (US 1997), God (UK), Voodoo On those with *s, I could be wrong on which cover it was. I really don't remember if the PtM cover was the regular or ltd ed. I did a quick check of various book and sheet music websites (such as and , and none of them have it listed yet. My local Tower had a couple of copies. The cover price is US$24.95. I totally forgot to write down the ISBNs, but I'll go back to Tower later and get that info. Once that's done, I'll update the Tori Resources FAQ with the info on this new book. The Tori Resources FAQ is available by emailing . It's also available on the web at . Enjoy! :) /nad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 23:02:56 GMT From: "Wake UpNeo" Subject: "Best" Tori Site on the 'Net by Golly ! =) Or, at least that's my opinion ! Don't take my word for it though-- go there for yourself and see what *you* think !! ;o) I'm talking about "The Dent". Or its full name, "A Dent in the Tori Amos Net Universe". The last PT Digest had a reminder from its webmaster that many Tori related questions can be answered there; as well as a post from glytter grrl that not every Toriphile knows what others may see as 'basic' Tori stuff... so it occured to me, maybe some of the folks looking for things to be answered somewhere, like, tour information, upcoming media appearances, etc.etc., album info, don't know about "The Dent" yet. Cos almost anything you'd want to know about Tori (I know i'm using hyperbole here, don't flame me, people !) can be found on that website ! So, for those who haven't checked it out yet or didn't know about it, the URL is: http://www.aye.net/~mikewhy/toriamos.html or on many browsers, a simple tori.by.net will work. This is in case someone may have seen a post from the webmaster mentioning the site and assumed that it was 'just another' Toriphile mentioning a Tori site with a few pix and so on (which are great too-- don't get me wrong !). Nope nope this is a site you really have to see for yourself ! I don't often rave about things but this website really is amazing ! Just briefly: back about four years or so ? I think ? Before i was even wired at home, back when i was just getting comfy with the whole idea of computers and the internet via cyber cafes (if you haven't been to one; basically you use their computers and net hookups and pay for the time-- all the while having your cocoa, coffee, or whatever), I did a Net Search on Tori and came across this website. Well, after that, almost all my time at the cyber cafe would be spent at that one site. Because it seems to have just about every article every written about Tori, every interview, too many photos to count, performance reviews from newspapers and fans, ohmigosh... I could spend this whole digest's KB just listing the stuff available on this site ! You can literally spend hours or days there (and look up and have to pay $20 to the cybercafe ;oP ) ! So anyway. I wanted to share my opinions about this and to say that I am a totally unbiased third party... I stumbled across the Dent like most others... but I think I can say it is simple fact as well as opinion, that this is truly the most comprehensive Tori Amos site on the 'net (and about the best site in general I've yet seen also), and certainly my opinion that it is the "best" ! Cos anything you need to know is probably there ! Plus, it has lots of contributions from your fellow EWF-- and it's just plain fun to read it all =) Did I mention that it's updated almost daily ? Often has breaking news, too. So, go there, click on 'Tori News' on the entry page (after you've read the entry page-- there's good stuff there too !) and from there you can go to the section you want. You could also just explore on your own. Like I say, don't take my word for it ;o) This is all just to say, if you bookmark this site, many of your questions can be answered... just to save yourself the trouble of posting and waiting for someone to answer you... not that there's anything wrong with that either. (In fact, I love to see all the 'new' people coming in !!) PS) I had no idea Myra Ellen Amos had copyrighted songs in the early 80s at the Library of Congress-- and I think it's cool when someone discovers something new to them and posts about it-- even if it had been something I knew-- which it wasn't. ;o) And I've been a Toriphile since just after Little Earthquakes (and didn't know) ... just my two cents. And Pete-- it was also cool to learn about Venus' deadly side, scientifically speaking. That's why I am on the Tori digest lists-- for when people share stuff they are excited about.... Correct URL herein Ok-- egg on my face-- Just as I hit send, I remembered that the URL now in Mikewhy's (The Dent's webmaster) signature, isn't exactly the same as the one I just put in my post to PT ! I tested it, and the way I typed it will get you there. It will automatically switch over to the correct URL (or at least, it did on my browser) and take you to the site. See, I have the site bookmarked, and last time I *typed* it in (long time ago !), it was the way I wrote it in my last letter here... BUT.... And this next one really is correct: http://members.aye.net/~mikewhy/toriamos.html (Just above) is the more current, correct URL. My utter apologies. Don't let that one mistake (of mine !) stop you from visiting that site tho !! I had put up the 'old' URL in my last letter, because I have it bookmarked (and like I said, hadn't typed it in for a while)... but either URL will likely get you there (use the correct one above anyway, just in case), as well as (on most browsers) typing tori.by.net. So-- you can use tori.by.net or, the *current* URL, which is, again: http://members.aye.net/~mikewhy/toriamos.html Sorry about that !!!! Eesh. I should have triple checked it before I sent that letter off; as I said, it hit me just after 'send'. That's what happens when I'm in a hurry yet trying to write emails anyway ! Really though, it was just a mistake-- and everything (else) I said in the letter is totally accurate. I won as well (just recieved the email) and I'm kinda freakin' out here... mainly because I don't know how I'd get to a show because none of them are near me... (I'm sure I'd either find a way or give the tickets to a friend who could use them) But I'm thinking it's legit because when I signed up for the contest it said they were giving away a pair of tickets each week.. drawing names, and they'd let us know... so it looks like it could be real... I mean... it couldn't hurt to try, right? Unless people don't like giving their address out... which I don't mind so much. Does Mikewhy have any information about this?
