I'm so happy I did. I can listen to it non-stop anywhere now! Anyways, I think the song has many mixed feels. The music is reminiscent of many things but also holds Tori's originality. This song is very heavy on beats. They remind me a lot of the beats on Bjork's last album Homogenic. I also hear a little NIN-ish influence. The drums in the chorus complete remind me of Perfect by Smashing Pumpkins and the guitars do in some parts also. I can't wait to see how Matt is going to perform this one. Caton is also majorly jamming on this. If you listen close you'll notice some of his underlying guitars that seem to sound reminiscent of synth strings, it sort of hidden in layers though. John is definently present as well. This bass line is really out there in this song. I will have to admit though. It has a bit of Honey somewhere, I just can't figure out where. I wouldn't want TORI to hear me say this, but I since a little of Fayth in this song to. It sounds so much more free than the FTCGH songs. I think Tori is really getting into the swing of the band. You can tell she's a lot more loose with them, in a good way. Lyrically.....I think it's a bit pele-ish in it's very mysterious lyrics. There' s alot to unwind here. I love that. Here is my lyrical attempt Father, I killed my monkey I Let it out to Touch the sweet of spring Wonder, yes I will wonder, out Test my turtle To see if I'm still free >From you Steady as It comes Right down To you Said oh So maybe with the bliss of another kind I said a bliss Of another kind I said Lately, I'm, into circuitry What it means to be Made of you but not enough for you Well I wonder, yes You can bi-locate Is that what I taste Your supernova juice You know it's true I'm part of you Steady as it comes Right down To You Said oh So maybe wiht the bliss of another kind I said a- Steady as it comes Right down To you Said oh So maybe Four horse engine with a power drive I said I can change what's into your mind I said Take it take it When you tear it tear this heart and I said Steady as it comes Right down To you Said, oh So maybe with a bliss of another kind I said A bliss of another kind I said A bliss of another kind I said A bliss I A bliss I A bliss I Of another kind Tripp Gwyn (Whos' gonna kill the battery in his new Diamond Rio PMP 300) tgwyn@infoave.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 11:12:18 -0400 From: "Delirium Crush" Subject: Re: Steve Madden shoe spotting at dept. store Actually, Steve Madden shoes are sold EVERYWHERE. Question: the last chorus, the first time she says Bliss of another kind and on the word kind her voice goes really high, who does she sound like there? It sounds so familiar. Like another artist for just a second. It's a very pretty twist and very new for Tori. It's just aggravating me I can't think of who that sounds like. Help me out here. An observation: I think it'd be so great if she released all her songs one at a time like this and let us ponder and obsess over each song for a couple of days until the next one is released. We could appreciate them so much more this way. I already have the song memorized. But giving me 12 songs at once is always so overwhelming and I tend to shy away from some songs for months when I get a new Tori album, and that's just not fair to the girls. Getting to know them one at a time like this is so much better. But oh well. I will just have to ration the album when it comes out. No more than one new song per day. And see how that goes. - -jen === I look for the good in everything. (Album News from Music 365) Hi, I just found this on the Music365 website http://www.music365.co.uk/autocontent/news_008900.htm. What's interesting are 10 of the song names at the end of this article, and that Bliss will be the opening track. There's also some new info (well at least for me) about the vibe/message of the record in general, so read on... ********************* TORI AMOS NEW ALBUM DETAILS Details have emerged of ten of the twelve new songs on Tori Amos's forthcoming album "To Venus and Back", due for release on September 20. They include a touch of nostalgia in "Glory of the 80's" about Amos's experiences, when she first left home to live in LA, and an achingly beautiful piano ballad called "1000 Oceans". Several of the songs reflect her more contended state of mind since marrying her sound engineer Mark Hawley last year. Lust was written when they were forced to spend two weeks apart. Another song deals with the death of one of Hawley's parents. "Bliss", the opening track, is more conventional Amos territory about a difficult relationship between a father and daughter. Amos is currently mastering the album, a double, at her own Martial Engineering studios in Cornwall. The second CD is a live recording taken from several dates on her 1998 tour. She leaves for AMerica on August 9 to prepare for a co-headlining tour with Alanis Morrissette, which starts a week later. Meanwhile, the singer has had a shoe named after he by Steve Madden, the vogueish AMerican footwear designer who is a generous sponsor of RAINN, Amos's chartiable rape, incest and abuse support group. "It's very stylish and Steve is donating not just a percentage, but all the profits from the shoe to RAINN," Amos said. The new songs are 'Bliss', 'Juarez', 'Concertina', 'Glory of the 80s', 'Lust', 'Suede', 'Riot Proof', 'Datura', 'Spring Haze' and '1000 Oceans'. ****************************** sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 15:28:05 EDT From: XXXPandora@aol.com Subject: we will have bliss on august 24 <> from the Dent No!! In the novel "Clan of the Cave Bear," it's used to allow people to recall their racial memories. In real life, I believe it has some healing qualities as a painkiller/narcotic. (I'm not real sure though...) It's a holy plant in many native cultures, and used by shamans to induce visions. breisleach ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #229 *************************************
