Hi Bethany! I have to admit to you that BFP was my last Tori CD purchased. I had heard it twice before, once from my best friend who purchased it when it first came out, and then from the library upon hearing FTCGH for the first time. I just couldn't get into it like the others. But then I purchased the Video Collection. And the videos for "Hey Jupiter", "Talula", and "Caught a Lite Sneeze" grabbed me so tightly that I ran out and bought all three singles, and BFP. I even traded my best friend my new copy of it for the old one just to have the original version of "Talula". All of that to say this: I think that BFP is one of her best, but it's so deep that it may come on too strong if you're not ready for it. I had to season myself with her other stuff to love it as much as the others. "For Mark" was an improv she did on "Modern Rock Live" in late 1996, whereas that bit of "Never Seen Blue" was from the early days of the BfP radio promotion stuff {Feb 1996}. Given their difference in time frame, I dunno that there's any conscious connection. We don't really know when NSB was written {obviously she had part of it for that Feb 1996 radio appearance, but did she have the final song down?}, so she mightn't've had it completely figured out when she was on MRL -- she could've had it on her mind when she was on there, and she was playing around with the piano, and that "For Mark" improv is what appeared. Usually, tickets go on sale online - -after- tickets have gone on sale at the TM outlets and over the phone. This time, though, there was a special online pre-sale for tickets to these shows. Tickets were only sold to the general public via TM outlets and phone sales a few weeks after they'd been sold online. The next time, I'd just be aware of how the show is going to be sold. If seats are sold in advance online, then be prepared with your credit card to purchase them online. If seats go on sale first in-person or on the phone, get your butt to your nearest TM outlet. If seats go on sale via both at the same time, well... I dunno. It depends on how fast your Internet connection is, the conditions of the 'net that day, and whether or not you trust TM to be able to handle online sales. I'd personally rather go stand in line at my favorite TM outlet than risk the online sales. Is online TM safe? Err, sure. I'm always rather amused by folks who are worried about giving their credit card info online, but have no issue giving their CC to some waiter who disappears with it for ten minutes or more! Even -if- your CC info is stolen {unlikely}, your CC limits your responsibility for it -- most cards hold you responsible for $50, although several don't hold you responsible for anything. Reliable? The reliability of it depends on all sorts of factors, many of which are beyond the control of TM. If you purchase the tickets online, you'll get 'em -- TM does have a reputation to uphold. IMHO, it's just a question of whether or not you'll be able to purchase good tickets online. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jun 1999 23:59:48 EDT From: JewlyaINAP@aol.com Subject: New Zine Seeking Submissions..(the real letter;) Hi All! Pele is not a commercially 'accessible' album, really. I dont think Tori has that sort of pull - and I dont really want her to unless it's for what she is. There is a lot of emotion on Pele, and sometimes I can only listen to it when I'm in those frames of mind. LE and UtP are by far my favourites, because they were the diaries of my life. LE came out as I graduated from high school, and UtP came out as I settled into my major in college. A lot of what Tori wrote in those albums hit me hard, and I tend to play them more often than the others. Pele didn't hit me as hard until I started having problems with my boyfriend. Someone just posted recently about the line "russians die on the ice" and how it related to a scene from a movie. Well something like this happened in real life and it was a pretty big story at the time plus it happened a while before BFP was released so it could likely be what tori is mentioning. A russian figure skating couple was practicing on the ice when the male skater had a hearattack and collapse on the ice (I think that his name was surgei but I can't remember the last). The couple was also married and had a daughter together. (If anyone can remember the names and post them that might be helpful). The female skater eventually went on to skate alone although I don't think that she ever competed again. Has anyone here heard tori's version of if 6 was 9. Personally I though it was pretty horrible (like when pianos try to be guitars???). Does anyone know what they did to the piano (I am tempted here to say poor piano) to get this kind of sound. Just wondering. Thanks everyone (for bearing with me) ***Always remember to take the yummy garbage out***** tootles, Lauren _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I mean check it out: "master"? What like were some slaves to it or something? The all mighty ticketmaster! Ha! I know some people call it tixetbastard; now I understand why. 8am, Friday morning, May 21st... I was like most of you die-hard Tori concert goers. I was up, sitting by my computer, just waiting for the new site to launch. After all the confusion, I finally got on, got through, and bought 2 tickets to 2 events: Chicago & Indy. 2 weeks later, I received my Indy tickets. One month to the day and I've yet to see Chicago. This worried me, because I ordered those first! Plus, I've dealt with Ticketmaster plenty of times before. I've always received my tickets within 2 or 3 weeks of ordering 'em. So I went back and looked at last month's CC statement. Sure enough, both events are on there and have been charged. I figured it as time to take action, so I called Customer Service. (Let me tell you right now... if you've yet to received your tickets, don't bother calling just yet. It's totally useless!) First of all... it's not a toll-free number, plus it's not local for me. Funny thing is, when I asked to talk to somebody about not receiving my tickets, the guy said, "please hold while I transfer your call to customer service". I was like, "I thought this WAS customer service", he said "it is, but I have to transfer your call", then he put me on hold! Ugh... then after taking like 4 more transfers and waiting on hold for a damn good 20 minutes, I get Aaron. Ohh Aaron *really* sounds like he should be helping people... like he had a little too much to drink this past weekend. (Now before I called, I debated on whether or not I should be shitty and demanding or nice but determined. I opted for the latter of the two, but don't try it... it didn't get me anywhere!) This guy was a complete ass; he talked to me like I was a moron. I told him my situation, gave him all my information, and my confirmation number. After confirming all that, he just simply told me they hadn't been mailed out yet, because the show isn't until September. "They haven't been lost in the mail; everything is fine; your cc was accepted; they just haven't been "flagged" yet by the mailroom." (This kinda pissed me off. If my credit card gets charged for something, I expect to have it within a reasonable time frame. Besides, what the hell are we paying all these extra fees for? "Ticket Handling Charge" "Processing Fee per ticket"... that's like an extra $40 - $60 depending on what concert you get tickets for!) So I explained to him, yet again, how I already received my Indy tickets and I know of a lot of people who have already received their Chicago tickets. All I wanted was to make sure everything was okay and my damn tickets. The he had the nerve to say, "that's because the Indianapolis show is before the Chicago one." Well duh! But I sincerly doubt what... 4 or 5 days... makes a difference on whether or not they get mailed out in 2 weeks or 2 months, ya know? All he kept saying was the show wasn't until September (well, duh - most of 'em are!) and I still have a few months to receive them. That if for some reason, I still haven't received them by 48 hours within the performance, to give 'em a call and they'll transfer them to the venue's ticket will-call window. No how's that for "Customer SERVICE"? Now what do you people think? Have any of you out there had a similar problem with Ticketmaster? Do you think I'm right or am I too demanding for wanting my tickets after a month of ordering 'em? Was I out of line? Ugh... I'm just really pissed now. ~Shai _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Boys For Pele was my third Tori album purchase. When I first heard Under The Pink I was blown away.It hit something inside of me...it was an emotional experience.I had never heard a woman share her deepest feelings with a piano. It was amazing.Little Eartquakes was unbelievable as well and they soon became my favorite tapes. The first single off BFP that I heard was Caught A Light Sneeze.Of course I rusehd out and bought the tape when I got of work.I listened to it over and over again, but something was missing.Maybe I was not yet mature enough, emotionally,to feel the music. And for a long time I just listened to CALS.It took me two years to appreciate the music on that album. It is now one of my favorites. Is that possible...to have 3 favorite albums by the same artist??Oh well. The mintue that I got the bootleg with tori reading the Sarah poem (Which was only a couple weeks ago), I immediatly reconized what it was. Then to reply about your question about if anyone likes tori's version of If 6 Was 9, I love it. The minute that song comes on, i begin to get chills. That is one of my fav covers that Tori has done.
