Hi, I just wanted to say that I'm 19 - a tori fan for about 5 years now. I've never met anyone who likes tori amos... but, this weekend, at a party, I was talking to some woman - 27 years old, who used to like tori amos (only the first two albums). I never understood this, since I love every single one of Tori's albums - although, alot of people seem to be disappointed in BFP & FtCGH. Sadly, the people who I'm friends with don't really care for Tori much at all - - some even hate her. For a long time I was under the impression that Tori had few fans! - -Mandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 16:54:08 -0700 (PDT) From: Vice Subject: Sugar Since we're in this mood of song explanation, and since i thought it would be good to come from the darkness of this mailing list, here it goes. Can anyone tell me what Sugar is about, i absolutly love this song, ever since i downloaded it (which is the only way i can hear these fabulous tori songs) i can't stop from listening to it (and the flying dutchman which is my other favourite). I'd appreciate any insight from any of you :) Oh and btw have any of you ever been to mp3.com, there's an artist named james bradley warnock there who has a electronic sounding cover of sugar, of course i think it doesn't do the original justice but it isn't that bad. One of the radio station's has been advertising free ticket giveaways, and when mentioning Alanis as a choice, they ONLY mention alanis...leading me to the assumption that tori will be opening the show. which kinda pisses me off, cause I am NOT driving 3 hours to see alanis (I understand that some people are driving further, but y'know...). HOPEFULLY they will get equal playing time, but if tori doesn't have at LEAST an h our set...I will be extremely upset...is there anywhere to find this info out? ~* jo§h ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 18:25:12 -0700 From: "Megasusİ" Subject: Re: Tori's Young Fans Len Alan Demby wrote: > I want to know, since > majority of today teenagers listen to Hip-Hop, how many Tori Amos fans > (on this list) are nineteen and under and how many Tori Amos fans (any > age) are the only Tori fan in there group of friends. 'her fans' and a few journalists to work it out for themselves. (Which it may well be, but the pun between die & dye is hard to pass up). Either it's just a mistake or it's deliberate, in which case it has a sliver of meaning, even if it's a simple joke. Not that it matters much, but it adds a bit of richness. But yeah, it is definitely over analyzing; just poking turning over rocks looking for more interesting tidbits.. >> This brings up an intersting point, and leads me back to a post I never posted about Pandora's Aquarium. The heated debate was the controversial "lord of the flies" she sings, whereas "lord of the files" is what is printed in the lyrics. Now, a lot of people began making references to the novel, Lord of the FLies as her intention. But what if it wasn't? what if she just accidentally (or purposely) made the mistake, and left it as the recording? It's a good though (lord of the Flies), but you have to look at the song and realize that there is no other reference iin that song to the novel. Granted, there are the possibilites of compiling it with cooling, but seeing the different times they were written, I don't believe they have anything to do with each other. Also mentionable is the fact that Lord of the FILES makes much more sense in the song than lord of the flies, because she is singing "she's in New York somewhere checking her accounts" so I automatically think bank files, or something to do with money. It could be a Wall Street related pun, seeing as how she's singing "line me up in single file with all your grievances". I think of the many businesses that come and go through NYSE, or Nasdaq, and how many fall/split/never become anything. hrmmmm. over-analyzation or valid points? or perhaps the rantings of a tired 18 year old.... ~* jo§h ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #176 *************************************
