I will appreciate it more than you know. Oh God.. I would LOVE that as well... that and Honey... and Purple People... lots of b-sides I'd like to have music of. I know of a place with lots of music, but none of those to my knowledge.. so if anybody finds a good place with those, I'd like to know as well. It would probably take me 5 years to study the music and figure out how to play it, but I'd be willing to put in the dedication, darnit. :) How many of ya'll play the piano? I tried to take lessons before but we could only afford it for about 6-8 months.. so.. I can read and play one-handed music, but when it comes to chords and two hands, I have to study ALOT.. :) Anywhoo..info on that music would be kewl. - -Meg, who could play the first few notes in "Winter" after about 10 minutes of studying.. :D "It's kinda funny, the things we think in times like these..." -Tori Amos (MaaG) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Jun 1999 14:05:51 -0700 From: "Megasusİ" Subject: Re: Ohh don't look at me like I'm stupid, now! Am I right Beth? Well, if EWF means that Tori is your favorite, than I'm an EWF.. because guess what's playing on my radio 24/7 ? Guess who never hears any new songs and gets a huge shock when she hears the radio at somebody else's house once a blue moon and gets shocked at how much the style of music has changed? LOL So... yeah.. I'm an EWF.. I like the term better anyway. Toriphile reminds me of pedophile... not because I associate Tori with that kind of thing, just the way it sounds.. because I knew somebody who was that made me sick.. so.. yeah. I like EWF better and it's cuter.. and it's from Tori's mouth. :) - -Meg, who's glad she closed the sunroof on her car cuz it just started POURING... sun... rain.. at the same time... gotta love Washington weather.. :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 10:02:08 EDT From: VuduGurrrl@aol.com Subject: Re: AOL Tori chat: little rascals clubhouse ? ;o) wkeupneo@hotmail.com writes: << So how about making another Tori room on AOL ? I started a little group called DETR (dee-ter) or Destroy the Evil Tori Room. We have our own public chatroom on AOL (but I don't have my favorite places right now or else I would tell you what it's called LOL) and everyone is welcome but I will tolerate no rudeness, profanity, or general meaness and I do TOS people who are disruptive in chatrooms. I don't specifically require everyone to talk about Tori all the time, because that would be just boring after awhile, but we are much more open to Tori chatting than the Evil Tori room. <3 Steph :o) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 00:07:13 -0700 (PDT) From: John Drummond Subject: Re: Tori's Spelling (hehe) The only instance of this I can think of is "let's you in let's you in let's you in" from "Doughnut Song", in which I guess Tori just confused the contraction of "let us" with the third-person singular conjugation of the verb "to let". The *core fans* (it's in an interview on the Dent) are the people Tori can count on to accept her work and the changes she goes through. She says she has a secret agreement with these "core fans", that she will keep growing and changing and they will keep supporting her. This has *NOTHING* to do with whether someone has gone to 300 concerts or none. It has *NOTHING* to do with how long you have listened to Tori. Acceptance and lack of critisism means only that you understand that Tori is trying something and you won't say, "That's not Little Earthquakes Part 5!". That's it. I don't know if I am suddenly in a very Tori-ish frame of mind (no, wait, I always am) or if I have just been subconciously listening exceptionally closely for Tori sounds. Anyway, so I know the whole deal with Tori and the Beatles, and I'm sure that she is influenced by them to some degree. But, has anyone ever heard the Beatles' song "Eleanor Rigby?" There are times when the string section sounds very similar to the string arrangment in "Girl." The song in general sounds fairly Tori-like, or maybe Tori sounds very "Eleanor Rigby"-like. Anyway, anyone else noticed this one before? Here's a pretty random tidbit...I just thought that someone else might enjoy since I did. I came across an interview online..the reporter asks tori when she realized that she a had a good voice and she answered not til recently (I think the interview took place right before BFP came out or around that time..). She said that the piano was always something that came naturally but at first her voice was something that had to work really hard to develop. When she was in school (I think it was either elementery or junior) the choir teacher would have her play the piano but didn't want her to sing. One day a boy in her class passed a note about her voice to another girl in the class, Peggy (Peggy got a message for me???). Anyhow the teacher incepted the note and read it outloud in front of the class...it said "Ellen sings like a frog!" She might of been a progidy but her voice was not always as inspiring as it is today...Meaning if you want to get better at something you have to work at it. At least that is how it struck me when I read about this. (we have Horses again on Choirgirl -- "for those on horseback or dogsled"). I always thought these introductory lines were pulling the listener in. But she's talking about a safe place ("they say that your demons can't go there.") > as long as your army > keeps perfectly still I always thought of this line in terms of emotional warfare in a relationship; each person has his or her army that comes out in a fight, in a battle. So she's talking to a lover or someone with whom she's having a quarrel. Inviting them to the place where the demons can't go -- but only as long as that person doesn't attack her. It depends highly on whether she's talking about Christian Easter or not. The holiday, in essence, is a fertility holiday, and hence is not about death, but life. But if you only go as far as the Christian perspective, then it is about death. (well, ok, to be fair, the pagan holiday is about rebirth into life and fetility, but even so, the egg itself would *never* represent death!) > Little Amsterdam > > girl you got to know these days > which side your[sic] on > > Seems like a spelling mistake. Not much to read into that. Ken I'm surprised you didn't include the "hominy/get it on the plate girl" line. Not that hominy is spelled wrong; but when she sings it, it sounds a lot more like "harmony." Definitely a double meaning there. > Cornflake Girl > > She knows what's going on > seems we got a cheaper feel now > all the sweeteaze are gone > > Normally would be "sweeties". Perhaps a nice play between > "sweety" (candy, or a term of endearment) and "tease". Ken; I thought "sweeteaze" was a brand of sweetener? I can't remember where I read that. One last item: in "horses" when she sings the line about "my hosies" she also sounds like she's singing "my horses." Surely intentional, as with the harmony/hominy line.
