(The Red Baron's photo on > the cover of Led Zeppelin II.) Hey, what makes you think she didn't know about it? (I mean, *I* didn't know about it, but then again, I don't know the Red Baron from Adam). She was such a big Zeppelin fan, and it must have been publicized at the release of Led Zeppelin II that he was on the cover. Nevermind that Tori was only 6 at the time. :) I'm sure she knew it. I'm sure she knows a lot more about Zeppelin than she lets on... I think this song is about the men that are seduced into continuing the legacy of dominating women, and not allowing women to be whole. (sexual, intelligent, equal and different) "Not the Red Baron Not Charlie Brown" They look meek and mild in cartoons, but they're still male icons...and hence still have *the blood of senators*. Societies programmed male intuitions of *putting a woman in her place* I think she's pulled out the sarchasm here again: Ohhhh, noooo. Not him!?? He would never pull me down! ;-) "think I got the message figured and are their ((not spelled there, btw)) devils with halos in beautiful capes taking them into the flames" Probably taking the enlightened man....the boy that hasn't learned to put a woman in her place..... his own devils showing him power, and they themselves then become the ones that supress women. Seduced by their own power...they go down into the flames. "Not Judy G Not Jean Jean with a hallowed heart I see that screen go down in the flames with every step with every beautiful heel pointed" Judy Garland and maybe Jean Harlow are referred to here. They were both beautiful silver screen icons that played the role of *can't be whole without my man*. I think Tori would like that beautiful, but horribly misleading, movie *screen* image to *go down in flames*. "Not the Red Baron I'm sure Not Charlie's wonderful dog just another pilot down maybe I'll just sing him a last little sound" Just hashed through an interpretation of "Pandora's Aquarium" (The Lord of the Flies was diagnosed as *sound*) Interesting that it fits here too. Lord of the Flies=sound(double meaning, as in sound health)=knowledge=sane=Father Lucifer....hmmmmm. Interesting to chew on anyways...hehe. "many there know some girls with the prettiest red ribbons" We know that red ribbons can signify a cause to overcome a life threatening illness. Red for aids, pink for breast cancer...etc. The aids ribbon is the most well known of these, and I think she's not referring to aids specifically, but trying to make a point. I think that Tori's cause is life threatening. It's about losing your god given *whole* spirit and soul. That's a pretty good reason to wear a ribbon for a cause. This is the way I see it. Not saying there isn't room for other interps! :-) RJ alias-Merman- "I guess I'm an underwater thing, so I guess I can't take it personally" - -Tori Amos- "Always forgive your enemies--nothing annoys them so much." - -Oscar Wilde- In a message dated 5/8/99 9:30:33 PM CST, alanbryce@tinet.ie writes: > I missed the start of the posts concerning this song, but its > interesting you should mention that the song is about AIDS. I was very disheartened after watching the show. I'll give you a few examples .. during the interview Roseanne seemed to be acting very awkward - like she thought that Tori was insane (not that she isn't, but an interviewer should act professional) there were awkward pauses, rude faces given by roseanne and I forget the exact words but when they went to commercial break I remember roseanne saying something incredibly rude that really shocked me. Then (I think this was the worst part) when they had those 3 women tell their rape stories Roseanne interrupted one of them right in the middle of their story - this girl was crying and revealing something that was obviously incredibly hard to do (Can you imagine telling a story like that on national TV and then to be interuppted and have to muster that courage up again to finish your story) - and a little while later Tori took over and said Look I think we need to let her finish her story. I was in tears, not only because I know what she was going through (well not the national TV part) but also because I thought it was horrible what roseanne did. Since then I have not watched her show, even though its between two shows that I try to watch every day ... I think she is sickeningly unprofessional and should not have a talk show. By the way I saw a few other interviews she did with other people that were just as bad - Like when she said to patrick stewart something to the effect of 'I just don't get shakespeare ... I think its dumb' so its not just this tori thing. By the way I can't stand roseanne :) kisses, joanne ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 May 1999 18:37:12 EDT From: Wintdve98@aol.com Subject: Looking for Casey Gouer Hey, I am REALLY sorry to bother everyone, but I am looking for Casey Gouer. That may be opinion only. I thought she was quite interesting and polite, not to mention humorous when she asked "are you on drugs now????" hahaha. Tori even smirked at that comment, because she's very aware of herself and how she comes across, and that was Roseanne's way of breaking that barrier for the TV viewers at home, I think it was very well done... Where exactly can you buy the Tori Collectibles book, besides the internet. My parents will not let me order anything from the internet and I really want a copy of it. I have checked the bookstore near me, Barnes and Noble, but I have never seen it in there. If anyone knows where I can get it, please let me know.
