Yet, these "chickens" don't consider themselves gay because they are only doing it to survive. Phrases like "do you think I'm a queer (maybe pertaining to the fact these young male prositutes don't consider themselves gay OR that their customers don't consider themselves gay because they live a straight lifestyle generally", "Blood roses back on the street", "when he sucks you deep, sometimes your nothing but meat", "God knows I've thrown away those graces", "back on the street now". I strongly suspect this new technology will prove to be good business for them in the long run even though they don't recognize it yet. This is reminiscent of the enormous hue and cry of the film industry when VCRs and video rental stores began to get popular in the 1980s, and of course, now the film industry is bigger than it ever was. I was listening to Y Kant Tori Read, this new album that my friend had given to me for my birthday. I thought this chick rocked, but then again, everyone with a rock song and big hair made me cream in the 80's. Then I didn't hear from Tori for a while after that until I heard a song on the radio in my room while cleaning it... It was such a pretty song, all played on the piano with a great voice. The song was about 'when you gonna make up your mind." and "when you gonna love you as much as I do." I though wow, this is a really prettty song. I had to listen to the whole thing, pausing in between dusting a glass unicorn. I sat down on the edge of my bed and fell in love! WHen the dj came on again after the song was over, he said, and that was Tori Amos with her new single 'Winter.' and I was like... hmmm. i'll HAVE to pick up that album. So i picked it up and fell in love with all of the songs. Still not realizing that this was the same Tori I had seen years ago with the big red hair and sword! It was not until far after that when someone had mentioned that Tori had been in a band before, I was like, yeah right, with a piano... sure... and sure enough that was her on the front of my Y Kant Tori Read vinyl... I didn't put the two together until then! Just thought I'd ramble about that for a little.. hope everyone enjoyed that extraspecial glimpse into my life... For cryin out loud! I'm not really sure I'd go to any myself. I went to one last tour, and it was so chaotic. I'd love to meet Tori, tell her how much she means to me... but I'd really rather have that dream of meeting her and having a cup of tea with her instead of 10 seconds with her with several others. yes, i'm selfish ;) but i'd rather not shove in order to get close to her. she's special to me, but you know, i dont KNOW her, and I'm not close to her in her life. meeting me would touch her probably as much as meeting other fans who are deeply touched by her... but if i was to meet her, i'd prefer it be in a setting where we could get to know each other - maybe become friends ;) ifi had a chance to meet her i wouldn't turn it down.. but that would be my dream. at any rate, tori does meet and greets when she gets off her bus, ususally around 4pm, sometiems earlier :) ~~loria > > Please get back to me people. > Thanks. > > -Gus > Freedom110@aol.com > ''Make me a day, make me whole again'' > > P.S. [sigh] It's my understanding that this is going to be a two-disc set. Tori *wanted* it to be three discs but Atlantic thought they would sell many more copies of a two-disc set and won out--she could not persuade them to do otherwise. If anyone wants to say that is Tori going back on her "word" then that's up to them. (Sheesh.) I also want to mention that the lead time on articles appearing in Rolling Stone is multiple weeks. In other words, they interviewed or otherwise got quotes from Spivak about this thing multiple weeks before anyone received their copy of the printed article in Rolling Stone. Spivak was quoted as recently as yesterday as saying the release will be a two-disc set. Why the RDT fanzine web sitet continues to promulgate information which is suspiciously out of date is a question I can't answer for them. I remember trying to interpret all the BFP songs, and got to a place of contentment with them, but it's been two years since I did that, and my thoughts and the information that I had at the time was from websites and interviews. NOTE:: This is pretty graphic and I'll include a spoiler, since some of you may have distaste about the technicalities of female circumcision. S P O I L E R * * * I'll give you what I do remember, that's important to the song: The *Chickens get a taste of your meat* comes from an Alice Walker book, "Possessing the Secret of Joy". A part of it is about female circumcision, believe it or not. Certain tribes in Africa used this ritual to control the females sexual activity, and as a rite of passage. It involves cutting out the clitoris, and nearly closing the entrance to the vagina. ("You've cut out the flute, from the throat of the Loon") Okay, here's the quote from the book: "Abruptly, inside, there was silence. And then I saw M'Lissa shuffle out, dragging her lame leg, and at first I didn't realize she was carrying anything, for it was so insignificant and unclean that she carried it not in her fingers but between her toes." "M'Lissa lifted her foot and flung this small object in the direction of the hen, and she, as if waiting for this moment, rushed toward M'Lissa's upturned foot, located the flung object in the air and then on the ground, and in one quick movement of beak and neck, gobbled it down." Okie dokie then...... I know that this relates to Tori's lost sexuality, "God knows, I know I've thrown away those graces". It's like the "Blood Roses" are her wounded sexuality. I don't know how to make the whole song fit together perfectly, but this is a huge part of it. I know it's not pleasant, but I hope it helps in understanding the song, RJ alias-Merman- "I guess I'm an underwater thing, so I guess I can't take it personally" - -Tori Amos- "Always forgive your enemies--nothing annoys them so much." - -Oscar Wilde- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 22:00:07 EDT From: Erinita@aol.com Subject: Re: New to list, need some ticket info... Hello All, I wanted to address the "who gets these front row seats" issues. I am in the ticketing industry, so I have a bit of firsthand knowledge on this. Front row seats are normally held back by the artist &/or box office. It all really depends on the venue & the kind of agreements they sign with the performer. Some promoters won't sign to a particular venue if they cannot be promised a certain number of seats set aside for the band. (I won't name names to protect the spoiled & guilty) If this isn't the case, and you find yourself being the only person in line & you still only get 2nd or 3rd row seats, please keep in mind that there are hundreds of other ticket centers, internet, box office, and phone sales that are pulling for the same tickets you are trying to get. There have been a few instances where friends of mine have gotten lucky & were able to obtain a few front row seats for Tori shows, but it is kind of a right-place-at-the-right-time thing. Sometime the tickets set aside are no longer needed and get put back in the system at a later date. As far as camping out for tickets, I strongly urge against that. Not only is it an unfair practice for those who cannot get away for an entire night to wait for seats to go onsale. But it is a common practice (and virtually required if there is more than 1 person standing in line, that's right, ONE) these days to use the random number distribution system, which ensures that people getting in line on time have just as much a chance as getting tickets as those who have attempted to camp out all night. It is a fairness issue, and it is done to protect ticket centers from having loiterers hanging around all night (keep in mind, that when these ticket centers aren't selling tickets, they are normally running some sort of other business, like a grocery or music store). And what if you had to work the night before & simply could not get off? Or if you have children to take care of? Is it fair that a chosen few people who don't have any other prior engagements are able to get better seats than you because of this? I don't think so. So my best advice would be just get in line at about an hour prior to the onsale time so you can be there for the random number distribution, and good luck to you. The way I see it, if you have the opportunity to see Tori in this short tour of few stops, you're super lucky anyway! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
