Needless to say, I kept that CD and I've been devoted ever since. As to her "popularity", I think maybe the little airplay thing might just depend on where you live. I currently live in Boston, and she's on the radio here all the time, or at least it seems like it. And lately they seem to have gone completely Tori crazy on VH1. I guess I can't really say that they never play Tori here since The University of Miami radio station played her songs (anything that they had, they took requests) for almost an entire day last year starting and ending with the 4 songs on the promo sampler for FTCgH. I taped almost the whole thing because it was so cool and strange. They also played Liquid Diamonds alot for a while and regularly play SATY and other songs from LE and sometimes I will hear a b-side -- it all depends on who is the DJ. For a while there was a really awesome DJ (in the morning while I was driving to school he was on, this was like 5 years ago though) who would play Tori every single day and that was just amazing! And before most of her concerts they will play like half an hour of her songs -- she has played many many times down here in south florida, i guess since she has a house down here. But besides that one radio station which is a college station and therfore not really indicative of what other radio stations are playing I think I have heard Tori once on the radio. kisses, ~* joanne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 22:36:15 EDT From: Dink6@aol.com Subject: tori's tour hi guys. listen, if anyone gets any info on when tix are going to go on sale for the ft lauderdale show, be sure to post. i was just looking around on ticketmaster (where someone had said tour infor was found) and i am at a loss. thanks in advance :) love a girl, lisa anne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 22:22:15 EDT From: Dink6@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori on free MTV anti-violence cd In a message dated 4/24/99 1:19:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time, january_grrrl@yahoo.com writes: << the site (http://www.mtv.com/nav/intro_antiviolence.html) says: MTV's Fight for Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Violence CD/Action Guide features music by top artists and contains information on how you can take a stand in your community. Erin Lynch ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 14:59:02 -0500 From: Gatsby Subject: Tori/Alanis and Tori is popular I remember my first contact with Tori...I was at a friend's house watching some program on MTV, and they did an interview with her after showing a video from LE (she was talking about how jetlagged she was...the interview was audio only from her hotel in NY). At the time it didn't mean much to me, but later I saw the single at a record store and bought it...I've been a devoted fan ever since. Unlike Alanis, whom I'd almost want to say was both made and destroyed by MTV, Tori receives spotty coverage by the media at best. She plays Letterman and Leno regularly when she has a new cd out, and I've seen her as the musical guest on SNL and on other tv programs, but she never reached this widespread "everyone knows her" state that many other artists do. I personally like the fact...Tori has always seemed more intimate than other artists, and every time I hear a song of hers it has a special, magic quality that is lost when radio stations (and MTV) overplay an artist's works. As far as the tour goes, my parents thought I was too young to travel to any of her tours save the last, so any chance to see her is fantastic to me. Regarding touring with Alanis, the first time I saw Jagged Little Pill I was an employee in the electronics dept. at Kmart, and I was really mystified about who this artist was and why we had boxes upon boxes of her album. I bought it based only on the cover of the album (if you've never done it, try it!) and was pretty impressed. I played it for some of my friends and they also liked it. That was until MTV and the radio stations played it and played it and played it...it seems to me her career was pushed back a step because MTV made her too visible too fast. I still think Jagged Little Pill is an alright album, but it seems to have lost an element it had before she became so popular. From what I've heard of her new cd, I am not too impressed, but I've only heard one or two songs. But anyway, if Tori has agreed to tour with her, I'm sure she is confident she can still produce the experience of a Tori concert. Have faith in Tori...human or no, she is f*cking amazing. Lauderdale, FL and end on September 25 in Los Angeles, CA. The tour will consists of 26 dates in mostly amphitheaters in major markets. Sadly there are no tour dates listed for the Northwest or Texas area. There are no plans to Tori to tour in any other countries and no additional dates are expected to be announced. The tour is sponsored my MP3.com and Best Buy, and RAINN will be heavily involved as well. MP3.com plans a press conference on Tuesday, April 27 to explain their involvement in the tour. (This is interesting because we all know how much record companies despise the MP3 format!) Tori and Alanis are said to be "co-headlining" this tour. At this time we have no idea who will open for whom... Live Daily says that Tori will release a 2-CD set in the fall, but it will likely be toward the end of this tour or after it is over. Unlike Rolling Stone which said the release would be 3-CDs, this article says it will only be a 2-CD release with live material on one disc and "new studio work" on the other. Whatever happened to the b-sides plan? WIll that disc really have all new material? I would love to know more about this. We have NO IDEA when any of these shows will go on sale, but I am guessing the on sale dates will be announced soon! Stay tuned... I have the latest tour news on the Dent as well!
