And then there was David (?) Poe on the club tour, and the > Devlins/Unbelievable Truth on the Plugged tour. Actually the guy she mentioned, Joshua Clayton Felt, was correct. He didn't open for every show. He was at the show I saw in Rockford, IL on September 20, 1996. But at the show I saw earlier in the year in Chicago had Willie Porter. Willie was alright but I couldn't really get into him. He had a song about a neon cross on the front of a semi or something that was hilarious, but other than that I thought he was boring. Josh Clayton Felt was cool enough so that I actually bought his CD. Unfortunately, his CD wasn't 1/10th as good as he was live. He did a cover of "Brick House" that was really groovin', and his songs sounded great live. Eventually, I sold the CD cause it got boring. I guess we will see if it happens. Yes, it is wise to be skeptical about this. The MTV web site says that the April 26 episode of Fantatic will be about David Spade and Sugar Ray. The last episode also mentioned who would be on the next one, and they said David Spade and Sugar Ray. So all the evidence points to Tori NOT being on Fanatic despite what Atlantic says. She has vitually little airplay on television, radio, etc, etc. I think the first time I ever HEARD of Tori was when she toured the college I was going to for her Little Earthquakes tour. I remember my roomate saying, 'Oh hey look, Tori Amos is coming, will be excited'. The only reason this sticks out is because he pointed at the tour poster which was the album cover. It just kind of seemed odd looking at it. Here's this girl standing in a box. Weird. I think I just went out and bought Under the Pink for no reason. I really have no idea why I went out and bought it. I had never heard Tori Amos (well, I think I actually saw the Talula video on MTV once and it just seemed odd), but thought that it would be a good purchase. It was :) >>> Miss Cornelia Princemedal 04/23/99 02:46AM >>> it's kind of strange.. i've heard tori on the radio a total of 4 times, once was when they played 'silent all these years' on a local pop station, the second was when they played Spark just before her new album came out (at like, 2am, mind you) and then about a week ago, i was getting into the car to go to work, and i heard God on a local station that i adore, NRK. when tori was through here on the plugged tour, she stopped in to do an interview with them -- but i'd never actually heard them play her. then, the next day, i heard them play it again. i was surprised, so i called the radio station and talked to a dj there, and she insisted that they'd ALWAYS played tori songs. :) i was thinking the other day, trying to remember the first time i'd seen or heard of tori, and i think i figured it out. it was on one of those late night shows, back when i was about 16, and i turned on leno or letterman or whatever it was, and on both leno and lettermen, their musical guests were playing. on one of them, was jann arden, and i'd heard her song 'insensitive' a couple times before, but i didn't really like it. on the other, was some red-headed woman playing a piano and singing.. so i switched back to jann, watched for a minute until i grew sick of her, then switched the channel back to tori, just in time to hear her singing the end of "Muhammed My Friend" and wondering who that incredibly insightful woman was, and why the hell i'd listened to Jann Arden instead of her. it was a few months later that i picked up BfP, not connecting the two at all, and fell in love with her and her music. :) anyway, i'm not quite sure what that had to do with anything, but i'm feeling rather fuzzy, sleepy, and contributive. - ami/y ami@blue.netnation.com - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- http://www.goldcom.com/~hegemon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 01:34:01 -0400 From: "Vicki Siolos" Subject: Re: upcoming tour thoughts... opening/main After reading about everyone's opinions on the Alanis/Tori supposed tour, I figure I'd write an email *smiles.* I think the best for everyone would be if they just co-headline and get a new, not-so-promoted band/artist to open for them. When I went to see Placebo recently, they co-headlined with Stabbing Westward, and there was an opening band for them called Flick. I noticed there was a lot of satisfaction between the Placebo and Stabbing Westward fans because neither bands were placed higher than the other....there were also some shows where one went on before the other, or Placebo would play at a different venue than SW on that same nite in a nearby area....who knows. I would be willing to see Alanis though because I have very undecided feelings about her. There are some times when she just disgusts me, and others when I just love her voice and her music....plus, a little variety is good ;) Even if Tori was only opening, I wouldn't care because I still get a chance to see her again...(oh, i'm getting excited just thinking about it!) love, Vicki http://travel.to/desolate.winters p.s. Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos, both noted for probing deeply personal territory in their music, will co-headline a summer tour, according to a press release issued by Morissette's publicists on Friday (4/23). The tour, kicking off August 18th in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, will route primarily through amphitheatres in major markets before ending September 25th at the Los Angeles-area Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. MP3.com has scheduled a Tuesday (4/27) press conference in Los Angeles to outline their involvement with the tour, the press statement said. A Rolling Stone report this week intimated that the Morissette / MP3 relationship would permit MP3.com to distribute live recordings from the tour via its web site. Morissette pointed out in a written statement that listening to Amos' Little Earthquakes as a youth in Canada was a moving experience that she hopes to continue through their touring relationship, noting, ''I look forward to playing with a woman whom I will be touched by nightly on a musical, intellectual, spiritual and emotional level.'' Amos downplayed the serious expectations of a tour populated by songs of introspection and occasional rage, adding, ''Bringing two visions together to make one show can be tricky, so obviously, it takes a lot of mutual respect and a load of gear. With that in mind, Alanis and I are bringing two trucks just for ourselves: one filled with wine, the other filled with lip gloss.^Ô Amos' RAINN (the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) group is expected to establish a presence throughout the tour, providing fans at tour stops with both information on local resources and channels to help support the five-year-old organization. The tour, dubbed the ''5 1/2 Weeks Tour,'' will continue the promotional touring cycle for Morissette, whose Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie has not demonstrated the chart stamina that pushed her previous effort, Jagged Little Pill into record-setting sales territory. Amos will not have fresh product on shelves for the tour, but plans are reportedly in place for her label, Atlantic Records, to issue a two-CD set in the fall that will feature one disc of live material recorded on her recent from the choirgirl hotel tour and one disc of new studio work. Ticketing details on the tour are expected to be released shortly.
