When I first heard about a possible Alanis/Tori tour, I decided to buy a Tori album to see if I liked her or not. I bought "Little Earthquakes" on Friday and can't stop listening to it! It's my favorite album EVER! I can't believe I've been missing out on Tori Amos for so long! This girl has been posting on The Dent's forum now for a few days, too. If Tori likes Alanis, then we should all at least give it a shot. And until all of you can say that you have attended an Alanis Morrissette concert, I don't want to hear from you. You can't speak on hearsay. I know several people that didn't like Tori's music much until they were witness to the magical spell that she casts during a live show, myself included. I'm not saying that you should love Alanis, but at least give her some respect. Tori obviously does. They're friends. If they want to tour together, than so be it. It'll be a good time. Has Tori ever had a female opening act? For the life of me I can't recall that she has -- I remember a Native American performer at the show I caught on the UTP tour, and I remember Joshua Clayton Felt on DDI, and of course, the Devlins and the Unbelievable Truth on Plugged...did Tori have an opening act on the LE tour? I seriously doubt it, but I could be totally wrong. IF (if if if if) this supposed pairing happens, I'm thinking it's the first time Tori's been on an "all-female" (yeah -- ) bill. I find that interesting, considering the whole Lilith Fair thing and Tori's love for that masculine energy, which is why I always assumed her openers were male, like she was creating a ying/yang effect. Also -- someone mentioned that FTCH has not been selling well -- I was really surprised to hear this, considering we have heard and seen Tori in public more the past year than at any other time in her career. Her exposure has been phenomenal, and I've been meeting people all over the place here who have gotten into Tori THROUGH this album. Now, I understand that she lost some fans BECAUSE of this album (which, honestly, blows my mind), but -- I guess I was just wondering if anyone knew the REASON for this, or the specifics? Thanks. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm QUITE excited to see her again. It seems like forever since the Bethlehem, PA show (hiya Richard, Corinne and others!) and I was expecting it to be a long while before we got anything other than the upcoming multi-CD set. Second, to all those who are sooo upset about the possibility of Alanis coming along- umm, it's not that horribly big a deal. As someone else put it, if Tori ends up going first (which I doubt), then everyone who doesn't want to see Alanis can just get up and leave. And if Alanis goes first then all the people who are there for just Alanis will leave and we'll have more room when we see Tori. :) I just really hope that there are not Tori fans there who make themselves look like fools while Alanis is on just because they don't like her. It all just seems like a bit of snobbery to me. Third, I think Tori will probably be going last. True, Alanis has sold way more records, but I think it would make more sense for Tori to go last becase (a) they're promoting her new album and (b) Tori is senior to Alanis. That is, Alanis has been influenced by Tori, not the reverse. And Tori has been around longer. It's just a respect thing. However, what someone said about the piano being tuned does make sense. That's something interesting we'll just have to find out about. Either way, I'm going to be happy to see them both. I must say that I was quite dissapointed in Alanis' new album at first, but I've grown to like a few songs on there. I'm a much bigger fan of Jagged Little Pill because I've always connected much more with that album. Tori will more than definately be the highlight of my evening, however. If it was just Alanis, I doubt I'd go. Thanks for reading everyone. Okay.....now, in the novel, the Lord of >the Flies seems to represent the Devil/evil, what have you that exists >outside of us, while the Beast seems to represent the evil present inside >each of us. Biblically, particularly in Exodus, there is reference to the >Lord and his use of the flies against the Pharoah and Egyptians - the evil >ones - hence it almost seems *He* is Lord of the Flies? And, at least as far >as the Bible is concerned, He is the good guy. > >Okay.....so.....going with that particular lyric, we can either assume Tori >is defining sound (music?) as good or evil. Or something else entirely. Or >maybe I should just go shampoo my hair. Please give me your thoughts....I >have lots more spinning around in my un-shampooed head, but I'll stop here >for now....see where you all would like to go with this....and maybe add more >later. > >Michelle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 18:33:12 EDT From: HEIDIC4U@aol.com Subject: Re: any know..... A friend of mine is going to be touring with Alanis this summer as her choreographer. I asked her about Tori but as of yet she heard nothing. She said the tour with Alanis is in Canada. If I find out more I'll keep you posted. It came in my weekly trivia newsletter. Enjoy, Erin 1. Some Piano trivia.... - The average medium size piano has about 230 strings, each string having about 165 pounds of tension, with the combined pull of all strings equaling approximately eighteen tons. - The working section of the piano is called the action. There are about 7500 parts here, all playing a role in sending the hammers against the strings when keys are struck. - The name piano is an abbreviation of Cristofori's original name for the instrument: piano et forte or soft and loud. - Johann Behrent built the first piano in America at Philadelphia in 1775 under the name "Piano Forte". - Each American President has had a personal piano - with the exception of Gerald Ford and George Bush. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 19:44:17 -0400 From: "~Wendi~" Subject: Re: Tori's Opening Acts Hi, When I saw Tori in 1992 a guy named Willie Nile opened for her. In 1994 it was Bill Miller (the Native American). For the life of me I can't remember who it was in 1996, but i know it wasn't the guy you mentioned. (anyone remember?) And then there was David (?) Poe on the club tour, and the Devlins/Unbelievable Truth on the Plugged tour. Hope this helps. :) Wendi ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 21:28:45 EDT From: Tasha325@aol.com Subject: tori and god. Just a thought. Any Liz fans out there? Oh, wow! She did have an opening act -- how cool! >In 1994 it was Bill Miller (the Native American). I still need to buy one of his albums -- does anyone have one they can recommend? I just remember being so, so impressed by his grace. And then, of course, out comes Tori soon after to the tune of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly in denim cutoffs and high heels, strutting like a badass...my definition of grace changed somewhat after that. ;) >For the life of me I can't remember who it was in 1996, but >i know it wasn't the guy you mentioned. (anyone remember?) Huh. That's odd. I THOUGHT it was Joshua Clayton Felt, but I could be confused along the line -- here's what I remember, if anyone was at the Raleigh '96 show on DDI: he covered Raspberry Beret (the crowd just LOVED that -- and it was sorda cool because Tori did Purple Rain as the final song that night) and I remember he asked the crowd for requests, and like, ten people yelled Free Bird, of course. Oh! And he had this song "[Something-Something] Nature Boy", and everyone was cracking up. This was why I was thinking he was JCF, because when I looked for the song in stores, that's whose it was -- were there a few opening acts that tour? I'm intrigued! >And then there was David (?) Poe on the club tour, and the >Devlins/Unbelievable Truth on the Plugged tour. I have to say that the Unbelievable Truth handled opening for Tori with a very positive attitude. I know Toriphiles can be a touchy bunch, but overall, accepting if the artist is relaxed. I think it's the "Dogs can smell fear" complex. ;) hee I saw the Devlins a few years ago...it was right after Drift came out, their first album, or second, I believe, and they were pretty good, and super nice guys. And in my opinion, David Poe is infinitely better in concert than on disc -- someone may disagree with me on that, but I saw him...god, he was opening for someone in '95...? Someone on here may know -- I wanna say James or something...? James or Radiohead, I think. Anyway - -- buy his album with caution if you caught him on the tour. =) I think it'd be funny if Tori got this Tori look alike girl who lives around where I go to school to open for her...heh heh Looks like her, tried to sing like here, plays piano...actually, I'm starting to think that sounds pretty pathetic...lol >Hope this helps. :) Thanks, Wendi! =) It's a tinkertoy world...
