Where is this Blue Skies single everyone is talking about sold at? The Blue Skies single was released by BT. I've seen it at Tower Records, Circuit City, and Best Buy. I've also seen it online at CDNow and Music Boulevard . Go into your local music store and look under BT in the techno section. The two "Blue Skies" singles are imports {they each have different remixes, I'd suggest getting one first and, if you like it, get the other}, so they should cost you $8-$12. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 01:27:30 -0600 From: the glitter girl Subject: found your writing on my wall > >It was as if my insides had been ripped out, set in front of me, and all > >I could do was STARE. My apologies for loose ends that I don't tie together. If you trip over em, I'll give you a dollar compensation. ^_^ But I was just writing a letter to Heather, and I said something that startled me when I wrote it, but was very, very true... I was talking about the way the piano speaks through Tori, and I said: "Sometimes I like to think that the piano is playing Tori." Does anyone else agree with this? What I mean is, does anyone else ever think that the piano is more important than the words she puts in the space? That maybe the lyrics are, in some cases, the background music, and the piano and other instrumentals the main part? This ties in with my incredibly over-long Boys for Pele post, where I mentioned the three levels of her music: the lyrical, the vocal, and the instrumental. Are there any songs that you think the instrumental says more about the song than the lyrical or vocal? I can name a few right now. Cloud on my Tongue. A beautiful piece, with beautiful words, but sometimes the piano nails me to the wall, while the words just try to tie my shoelaces together. Sister Janet, a rich work with some heart-shaking lyrics and vocals, but the piano is what really makes this song "classic" with me. The entire album of BfP is written mainly like that, with a few songs that REALLY rely on the other two levels instead, to name a few: Horses (intrumental and vocals), Hey Jupiter (all three levels intertwine, I believe this to be one of her most stunningly COMPLETE works), Doughnut Song (all three levels, at different parts... I think listening to the INTENSITY of the song is enough at times), Putting the Damage On (at least instrumenal and vocals... like that "take it high, high, high..." part doesn't do SOMETHING to you.), Twinkle (all three, at different parts). But quite a few times, the piano speaks more emotion than the words... there are times where the words seem almost filler, and that the song could be the same without them. I mean, can you imagine Tori singing over "All the Girls Hate Her" or "Over it"? And on the other hand, would "Me and a Gun" OR "Song for Eric" be the same WITH piano? I think not. MaaG has hard cutting lyrics and vocals, while Song for Eric is a prime example of what the power of a woman's voice can do to a person. But I don't want this to be a 10K long post, like my BfP one was, so I'll leave it to you guys to finish off my dirty work. I hope SOMEONE understood this. It's 2 AM now. I need sleep. 'and this little masochist, is lifting up her dress, never thought i could feel the things i feel.' another song that has so much meaning is 'tear in your hand'. it got me through my first real broken heart. 'maybe shes pieces of me you've never seen'. and when i finally got over it...: caught a ride with the moon. Absolutely. And if not "more" important some of the time, at least the guiding force of a given song much of the time. It impresses me how much of the time Tori's lyrics can't stand alone without the music being played or her singing them. With some songs, just reading the lyrics would make for a very difficult time of making *any* sense out of them. My page is at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Cabaret/2858/littlepieces.html On another note, a song that really hit me one day after I had listened to it for a long time was Silent All These Years. I use to hear it all the time so it got kind of annoying so I would skip it on my cd player. well one day I just let it play through and I just started crying. Things that were going on in my life and my feelings at that time helped me to see the song in a whole other light. I enjoyed that song so much. When I heard it at my first concert I almost started crying. I didn't want to go into too much detail cause it brings up alot of bad memories. As far as we all know, though, there are no more tours/prospective albums on the way. At least those containing new material. I think Tori really wants a family now and I don't know if she's going to be touring again for a long time. Everytime i listen to bfp, i think of female anger and violence, and the way women deal with emotional pain. i think all the women will definately understand what i am talking about, and men will relate simply based on their interaction with women. i hear within the texture of the music lots of anger. like, for instance, in blood roses. listen to the harpsichord. listen to what it is doing.... such a complex part ( such as the complexity of female emotion) directly getting to the core of the feelings. the vocals give the narration to the feelings. like women. for the most part, we need to talk about our pain, or it gets more intense. i guess i just see the entire album as an exploration of anger, and the many ways tori deals with it. i just recently read "possessing the secret of joy." and i think it is as commentary of the condition of women, and their pain, in words. it is so eloqently written, and we can feel, and relate to tashi's feelings. bfp deals with this subject in a very eloquent musical way. i know some may disagree. this is just my 2cents, and i don't know if i even presented it to where it is understandable... i have pondered it for a few days....... nymph and brownie sightings, Amy ~~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~& Slowly, slowly, he swims on through space, wheels and desecends, but I can sense it only by the way the wind blows upward past my face.-Dante Alighieri Life: a shadow and a dream.-Shakespeare ~~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~&*~& ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 15:24:37 -0800 From: Space Dog Subject: Re: BT That's wierd...I always hear the Cure at Taco Bell too...must be some sort of in-store mix or something they distribute everywhere, and the suit that decides what goes on there is a big Cure fan. I'm a huge BT fan, although I've never really hunted down the net for anything on him besides reviews and the like. His name is Brian Transeau and he's VERY big in the techno/electronica world. I've heard his music best described as trip-hop. I'd call it more jungle techno. I highly recommend his album, Ima. I think it's better than ESCM, but a lot of the same ideas reappear. I recently read an article on the Crystal Method (one of my absolute favourite bands) and BT had opened for them a number of times, however, he got pretty bad reviews when held up to the light of Crystal Method. I've never heard him live, although Rolling Stone said he was too predictable and boring. I'm sure I would beg to differ. What he's done with Tori has been genious, though.
