Well, assuming Lissa was the one who wrote the superlong post on BFP...I just wanted to say it moved me so much. Strange, too, because in all honesty, Boys For Pele and I have a somewhat uncomfortable relationship, and I still have a hard time listening to it all the way through -- but it's becoming easier. ;) I completely agree with what was said about Doughnut Song -- my god, that song! And the "hoo hoo"s in Hey Jupiter breaking the heart -- thank you. Just...thank you. Exactly. But anyways, this got me thinking -- and whilst talking on IM with the wonderful Sienna, who has yet to post to this list, though she always has WONDERFUL responses to half the things said -- , I was thinking about what a lucky bunch we EWF are. Tori's body of work is vast -- and it keeps growing. People have said before about how a lot of the songs developed new facets while played on the Plugged tour, therefore making it seem as if they're new girls altogether. This thought led to another, and that is if there is anything better than actually discovering Tori's music for the very first time, it's being a hardcore Toriphile, and discovering songs you've heard countless times, really, for the VERY FIRST TIME. The most recent example I can come up with for myself is that I listened to Under the Pink countless times, and never had any sort of epiphany, like I had with Little Earthquakes. Then, a few months ago, I popped it in the player, listened, and then Cloud On My Tongue came on. It was as if my insides had been ripped out, set in front of me, and all I could do was STARE. I put it on repeat, played it over and over and over, and just...my heart SWELLED. I couldn't BELIEVE I had listened to this song millions of times before and had never really LISTENED. Now, it's on my all-time favorite list. The same goes for lyrics, or those certain parts of songs...like, listening to Here. In My Head -- the opening -- or Cooling, and realizing the way Tori sings "these kisses" makes you want to positively melt into the floor or burst into tears. I'm rambling again, but Lissa made me think about the little things, instead of the larger picture... Perhaps I'll pop Boys For Pele in, and await an ephiphany... The term is a holdover from the vinyl days. When vinyl was the major thing music was released on, a single was just the one song and a "b-side". Then some artists released things that were mostly intended to promote the single song, but they added more material. It wasn't an album (or LP, which stands for "Long Play"), but it wasn't a single either, so they used "EP". Now, the term EP is IMHO pretty arbitrary. Tori has released two EPs in the US: Crucify and Hey Jupiter. Both have five tracks. However, Tori's also released other singles in the US with five or more tracks {Winter, CaLS, JS remix}. The bottom line? Don't worry about the name that the record company gives to it. The practical upshot of EP vs. single is that an EP generally costs a couple of bucks more than the single. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 18:46:32 -0000 From: "Fiona Mcmillan" Subject: HJ/Skeeter I also had some problems getting into HJ, but i much prefer the album version to the Dakota version. The whole album has no 2 tracks alike. It goes from tracks like Horses to Mr Zebra. This said, I now love Pele, but I love all the other ones too. It just depends on which girls wanna talk to me at the time.Sometimes I don`t play certain tracks, sometimes they leave me crawling on the floor. I don`t know much about the Skeeter thing other than when asked, Tori would not talk about it saying it was private.
