As far as a duet, hmm...I don't know. I love Miss Badu but I think she'd find Tori a little weird. I mean, in "On and On" she sings, "If we are made in His image then call us by our name...most intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same." And Tori sings, "God sometimes you just don't come through." Badu is as adamant in her belief in God as Tori is about questioning religion. Correct me if I'm wrong :-) I have yet to explore the many sides of religion. But as far as your comment I don't think that this should stop a duet.If you think about it they both seem to be very strong minded, and Tori seems to be open as we can see when she questions religion. They could embrace their differences. It has been known to happen. Most of my friends and my husband don't believe in God,and I do.I can love them all for their differences and learn something from them. That is what is so wonderful about people...we are all different and we are all teachers in our own way. I am not by any means an expert on any one of the topics in this email.Just someone who felt compelled to put forth her opinion.I am hoping that it makes everyone think. It sounded so much better in my head, but sometimes I am unable to say it the way that I hear it inside. I never read If you go back and listen to Unplugged '96 (I can't believe I remember this), Tori talks about how she used to listen to hymns, and they were SOOO beautiful. She begins playing Onward Christian Soldiers, and then segues it into Icicle. P.S. Hi, Jen! :) Keith - -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- ** -- Keith D. You guys really gave this a lot of thought and I appreciate it. This is going to be a hell of a tape. For those of you just joining us, I am making a tape of "definitive" Tori songs for some Tori-deprived friends of mine, and I asked the P-T mailing list for ideas. I got dozens of responses, from people who had made similar tapes and from people who told me just their favorite song. Everything counted. The responses will surprise many, I think... 1. Cooling (most votes overall) 2. Winter 3. Precious Things (Richard Handal thinks we should use the Plugged Knoxvile version) 4. Honey 5. Here In My Head 6. Cornflake Girl 7. Sugar 8. iieee 9. Little Earthquakes 10. Putting the Damage On 11. Upside Down 12. Bells For Her (most single votes, as in "this is my favorite song") 13. Hey Jupiter 14. Blood Roses 15. Caught A Lite Sneeze 16. The Waitress (plugged) 17. Merman 18. Silent All These Years 19. Pretty Good Year 20. Raspberry Swirl 21. Horses 22. Crucify 23. Me and a Gun (I have to admit, I added this one in myself. It didn't get enough votes to make the list. But this HAS to count) 24. Baker Baker (I was threatened with bodily harm if this did not make it; luckily, it recieved enough votes) 25. Purple People 26. Icicle 27. American Pie/Smells Like Teen Spirit (live) (SLTS made the list but I think this version says a lot more powerful) 28. God 29. Doughnut Song 30. Marianne Now I want to know, what do you guys think about THAT? Personally, I was surprised that there were only 3 songs from the FtCH era there. FtCH is my favorite and I think it really showcases her evolution as an artist. But hey. And what should I call it? I was thinking "Precious Thing" :-P ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Mar 1999 15:34:12 -0600 (CST) From: black_dove_jan@webtv.net (R. Did you see the SNL a few weeks ago where they were ripping on Jewel's poetry. Disclaimer: Sorry, Jewel, for making you're poetry suck more than it already does. Ha ha. That was SO Funny! I do see the similarities between Horses and that flippin' Jewel video with her on the horse. When I first saw that video I thought of the Winter single. With the current Mr Zebra discussion on the definitive Tori selections thread, I thought I'd tell me coming-to-Tori story. My first exposure to Tori was my junior year at LSMSA. My best friend was a Tori and Sarah freak and we listened all the time. At the end of the year, I was much more into Sarah than Tori, hence my Sarah-worship now. Well, my friend made me a Happy Tape this summer and sent it to me and what was on it but Mr Zebra. I had never heard the song before(or didn't remember it if I had) but I absolutely LOVED it!!! I decided at that point that I WAS Mr Zebra and my Toriphilia has grown since then. I started out buying Boys for Pele last summer since it had Mr Zebra on it...and 17 other songs...I figured that was more economical. But it was a mistake. It took me a long time to really get into it and consequentially took longer than usually for me to get into Tori. I think if I would have bought any of the other 3 CDs first I would have gotten a lot more into her to start out with...but I'm happy with where I am now, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Since last summer I have gotten all 4 CDs, 3 singles, the video collection, various dubbed b-sides and live performances, a bunches of MP3s. And now I take to the sky... :-) Matthew Lucifer's really someone who wears white and is a woman and drives an ice cream truck.
